Get great performance with Asus' P5N-D motherboard. Powered by NVIDIA's nForce 750i SLI chipset, it supports Intel LGA775 Core 2 processors include Core 2 Quad, Core 2 Extreme, Core 2 Duo and Pentium CPUs as well as next generation 45nm Multi-Core CPUs. It features superior overclocking performance with reduced power demands and native DDR2 800 support for up to 8GB or memory with dual channel providing increased performance. 100% all high-quality conductive polymer capacitors give longer life and higher energy efficiency by supplying power to vital components independently.
The onboard NVIDIA nForce 750 SLI is the foundation for many of the gaming PC's and the SLI technology lets you combine the power of dual SLI-enabled graphic cards. The bundled Q-Connector kit makes it easy to connect the case's front I/O panel to the motherboard. Eight channels of HD sound complement the video display for a true movie-going experience.
Four 3Gb/s SATA controllers offer multiple possible RAID configurations for extra security and high-speed performance. Eight USB 2.0 connectors plus a FireWire port give you excellent flexibility in attaching peripherals.

BEWARE OF THE 700 SERIES CHIPSET
- Pros: If not for the huge issue described below, I'd give this motherboard a 4. Supposedly nvidia is looking into the problem, but it's been no joy for the last month.
- Cons: This board (or perhaps the nvidia drivers) has the now-famous video artifacting and lockup issue described in this thread:
http://www.evga.com/forums/tm.asp?m=253891&mpage=1&key=
This problem appears to affect many of the 700 series nvidia chipset boards, not just this ASUS.
Video of the problem is here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TYHuzJSpORw
- Other Thoughts: Do NOT buy this motherboard if video is important to you. ESPECIALLY do NOT buy this board if you do ANY video editing. As stated before, if/when this problem is fixed, I'd give this board a solid 4. The video lockup is the only complaint I have. Nvidia response has been slow and poor to this issue.
First impressions
- Pros: I just got this board today and set it up, and everything was smooth as butter... I'm typing this review from the computer using this board. It's got all the features of the P5N-E SLi, with a few extra features, including the 750i chipset, support for 45nm dual and quads (quads aren't currently supported, will be in a BIOS update soon - probably before Intel's mainstream 45nm quad line comes out)... In addition, the chipset heatsink is larger and all copper, and it has an additional fan to attach to keep it cool (which is surprisingly silent)... Good for those with custom fans/passive/water cooling, whose northbridges would usually fry. Furthermore, it's actually got a heatsink on the southbridge (Yay). It's got an Energy Processing Unit which changes the CPU multiplier when it's not active and instantly sets it back up when it's working. Also, it has dual x16 PCI-E for SLi. The website claims it's hardware ready for it, and will likely be fully supported in a future BIOS update.
- Cons: CONTINUING WITH EXPLANATION OF PROS: Anyway, until the update for the BIOS comes out, it's x8,x8 SLi, which has no impact on performance for any card out right now - Not even the 8800Ultra. The update to support this will almost certainly be out way before the need for x16,x16 is actually necessary. Also, it has support for 7.1 audio with optical output onboard, and overall it's a huge upgrade over the P5N-E SLi (which I upgraded from actually). THE ONLY CON with this board so far is that the P5N-E SLi (650i) had 2 IDE slots, and this updated board with the 750i only has one. Beware if you have an IDE hard drive and IDE disc drive... Luckily for me, mine are both SATA.
- Other Thoughts: Seems great so far, would recommend to people who can't afford the 780i... It's basically a matured version of the 650i without any noticeable bugs for me so far. It seems to have addressed every little nitpick I had about my old P5N-E Sli after 6 months of ownership. However, for most people with a P5N-E SLi, this isn't worth the upgrade unless you plan to get a 45nm quad core - the P5N-E SLi, as well as any other 650i or 680i board will still support the 45nm dual cores with a BIOS update.

Solid, Cheap SLI board
- Pros: Low Cost, SLI, solid performance, good options
- Cons: none
- Other Thoughts: I've been using this board with a Core2 Duo 3ghz, 8gb OCZ SLI memory, OCZ 700w power supply, and 2x 8800GT 1gb Zotac's in SLI mode for over 2 months now. Running Windows 7; extremely solid and awesome quality/performance. Going to try it out with ReadyBoost soon and see if it speeds up more. Highly Recommended.
Great mobo
- Pros: Great motherboard. Fast and asus always rocks.
Newegg rocks also great shipping
- Cons: none yet.
Great motherboard, screams quality!
- Pros: Great motherboard, directions were excellent for this product. SLI-compatibility is a great feature (even if I'm not using yet...)
I/O cover is much better quality compared to any I've seen in the past. This was really nice! Instructions were very nice! Sound system 7.1 support was very nice. Drivers for it and others were easy to install.
- Cons: Wish it had an AUX power plug-in for 4-prongs.
On-board video card maybe? (Nitpick)
- Other Thoughts: After dealing with a very frustrating BIOSTAR product, going to ASUS was a lot better experience. The instructions, quality of the board, and all the addons it comes with was much better than the previous board. For those wanting to game, this is the board you want. The expense is worth it, trust me. I will be buying from this company again in the future. You have my respect.
