5 out of 5 eggs5.5 years and going

Pros: Hasn't given me problems these last 5 years. Tho I do need up upgrade so I can play the newer games, but I keep putting it off!

Cons: Every time I unplug the computer (storms, leaving for a few days) it thinks some of the CPU settings have changed. Not sure if it's the CPU or motherboard's fault but I always hit F1 and continue and nothing ever seems to have changed or be a problem.

5 out of 5 eggsLong Lasting

Pros: Have never had any problems with this MoBo, I have had it now for 4 years and have passed it on to my daughter for her computer we just built together

Cons: Nope, can not think of any

Other Thoughts: I know this MoBo has been discontinuied here on newegg, but you can still find this mother board other places for cheap too. Which is good if you are looking to build a computer for your kids or a cheap gaming pc that can still run up to par with the other kids on the block. I have had no issues with this motherboard, my youngest even spilled tea all up inside my computer about a year ago and i cleaned it all with rubbing alcohol and it still works today. Now i am build my new rig and using this mother board in my 8 year old's computer that her and I built together

4 out of 5 eggsFaithful, but overheating

Pros: This motherboard was easy for me to setup and use for my first PC that I built without my big brother's help and has been faithful for these last 3 years.

Cons: Lately it has been overheating. I've never tried overclocking it. Even thuogh it's three years old, I'd like to keep this otherwise good board. I've tested it and it seems that it's not the processor or the video card that are overheating, but the silvery heatsync/chipset/bridge beneath the PCI E x16 slot. Are there ways to attach a fan to this thing? I'd google it but since I don't know what to call it so I don't know what kind of fan I am looking for. Is it the north bridge? south bridge? From the manual it looks like "nvidia nf560 sli" but googling that didn't bring up anything for me other than the motherboard. Any suggestions? I am also submitting an inquiry to ASUS for help.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Decent board for the price, good overall hardware support

Cons: Not win 7 compliant (will run it though, just need to disable cool n quiet in bios, no driver support), cheap plastic components (cpu fan retention clip assembly cracked upon installing the cpu heatsink for the first time, had to be replaced), onboard c-media usb audio chipset (just plain sucks, before win 7 upgrade had issues out the box with it, had to update their driver constantly to not have to reboot every time i wanted to play audio)

Other Thoughts: This was a great quick fix i picked up off a shelf in a local computer store to replace a previous board that had failed me back in 09, it has been reliable since with very few issues that were easily resolved

5 out of 5 eggsBest DDR2 Board Around....

Pros: For DDR2 and regular PCIe x16 sli slots, this is a great board. I have used this board for 3 years, and am just now thinking of upgradeing. With bios updates, you can install phenom quad cores in this. I've ran the Athlon 64 x2 5000+ B.E. OCed to 3GHz with just the standard amd heatsink with no problems. PCI slots are spaced enough to add 2 double slot video cards, and still have room to thrown in extra cards audio/ssd/network. You have all the joy of AMD with Nvidia SLI tech.

Cons: Not on par with todays tech. But if you want a replacement board for your ddr2 amd board compatible with an nvidia card, this is it.

Not neweggs fault, but if you don't pay attention, you will DL the wrong bios and render it useless. DONT let the asus website detect your board... it will come up with M2N NOT M2N-SLI.

Not Win7 compliant but will run with Win 7. I do.

Asus bios updater may not work for you. Best to update bios through a USB pen drive formated as a bootable disk and flash through dos.

Other Thoughts: Some have complained here that they updated the bios and it wouldn't work. To the guy who stated the bios versions below... WRONG. Those are not the bios numbers associated with this board. You DLed and flashed the wrong bios. Again, make sure you track down your board on the asus site manualy. Auto search will only bring up the M2N board, not the M2N-SLI. Keep in mind there is also the M2N-SLI Delux board.... Not this board. Make sure when you think you got the right board, that it tells you the board has NVIDIA nForce 560 SLI Technology. If so, DL the bios and you will have no probs.

I run Win 7 64bit with this board. It will work, however, this board is not supported with Win 7 on asus driver website. Win 7 will automaticaly install sound drivers but you are limited in it's use. So a good idea is to go get a PCI sound card.

1 out of 5 eggsM2N-SLI R.I.P.

Pros: Board was reliable.

Cons: Unfortunately the BIOS flash was not. Went into the BIOS and used it's BIOS flash tool to upgrade the BIOS to 1604 from 0302 in efforts to support a newer CPU that I wanted. The flash reported success, but after a reboot, it would hang on the JMICRO SATA BIOS screen. Went through the standard procedure to recover, replace video with standard PCI video, used IDE CD ROM with original Motherboard CD and managed to get past the JMICRO SATA screen to a command prompt. Used the AWDBIOS.EXE flash utility to overlay 1604 with itself, in case it was a previously bad flash. It was successful or so it said, because after another reboot, I now received no video, no nothing. . . . . with no idea where to go from here, does the crashproof BIOS work?
