It's great, but...
- Pros: -The mobo is hybrid sli and geforce boost capable (only on vista, but has limited drivers).
-sata connectors are out of way of the pci 2.0 slot. decent onboard graphics
-great memory standard
-amd (better for price) quad core support
-cheap
- Cons: -when i got by first mobo, the pci 2.0 slot was broken. so i was kinda mad that i couldnt hook up my 9800 gx2... but, after rma, i got it runnin...
-asus support is horrible has no toll free #
- Other Thoughts: -it does seem a bunch of people have doa probs on this mobo... its a bit of a risk
******IMPORTANT FOR VIDEO CARD USERS****** -to make ur card run, in bios, south bridge config. is where you make ur pci slot run in priority. if it doesn't work there... your mobo is broken...
Still a good board!
- Pros: I wrote a review on 6/17/08 of this board and this is just a follow up. I am using the board in an HTPC in my living room. It is being used for Bluray, MKV files, music, games (Conan and Assassins Creed), and showing off pictures of my family. I had a tough time getting Bluray disks to work seamlessly and 1080p MKV files to play without losing sync. I had originally set it up with a EVGA 512-P2-N747-LR GeForce 8500 GT 512MB video card to run Hybrid SLI using the onboard HDMI out. Using drivers found at nVidia's website I got it to run ok most the time but playback and gaming was unstable. I decided recently to remove the second video card and viola it works fine now. Bluray and MKV playback is amazing!!!
- Cons: Hybrid SLI needs drivers that work. Would love to be able to game at 1080p instead of 720p.
- Other Thoughts: I would buy this board again. I have also moved to Vista Home Premium and am using Windows Media Center most the time except when playing a Bluray disk. Having then to open Cyberlink. All works great now and outputs 1080p video and PCM audio through HDMI to my Sony DA3300-ES.
It's Just Ok
- Pros: Small, HDMI.
- Cons: I am unable to install Vista Ultimate x64 onto two Velociraptors running Raid 0. I have tried every driver I could find and multiple methods with no luck. I could get it installed on either drive running as standard SATA drives. I did have it running initially before the board died with two 36gb Raptors. I am running latest Bios so I don't know if this is just an issue with this board.
- Other Thoughts: Board died after a month and it took a month to get the board back from ASUS. I had to call to remid them it had been a month since they received it.
My forst 3 egg review based on the board reliability and the SATA Raid issue.
