Always a glitch when I buy Asus Motherboards

Pros: No Pros. I have an Intel Q6600 quad core (2.4Ghz), Geil Memory GB24GB8500C5DC DDR2 (2 x 2GB), and Western Digital WD400AAKS-00A7B0 400GB hard drive with this motherboard.

First Problem:

When I do a cold boot (i.e. hit the "on" switch), I hear the power supply fan whir for about 2 seconds, then, it stops, as if it is turned off. Then, 5 seconds later, without touching anything, normal startup resumes. I've had a few Asus motherboards in the past and this has NEVER happened.
Cons: Second Problem:

I have a dual boot setup with Linux GRUB loader to select either Windows XP or Ubuntu Linux. If I try to boot into Linux, I get the following error message:

Dear Valued Customer,

Thank you for contacting ASUS Customer Service.

My name is Jany and it's my pleasure to help you with your problem.

1. Have you set CPU settings in BIOS? It seems to be normal for the platform, please do not worry.
2. If you boot from Windows OS, could the PC work well? If yes, seems there is something wrong with the Linux OS, about Linux support, you need to contact Linux vendor for a further check.

Best Regards,
Jany

I don't understand why there is a BIOS error when booting into Ubuntu Linux 9.0.4. Tried to reinstall Ubuntu several times, same result. I mean, come on, Ubuntu runs on almost anything, so why won't it run with my build?

I always thought that Asus motherboards were the best. Unless they fix this problem to my satisfaction, I'm never going to buy Asus again.

Love this board!!

Pros: One vid card slot leaves two pci-e 1x slots, easy to install. Well documented. Works well with legacy IDE dvd burner and Floppy hardware and comes with pata cables, also came with expansion USB 2.0 and e-sata external connection.
Cons: none
Other Thoughts: this was as easy as it gets... I dropped an extra 500 gig hd in the rig, which already had a 200 gig hd in it, and hooked up the expansion USB 2.0 with e-sata external connection so the customer can add a one TB external drive later. it runs the Ide dvd drive off the pata and hds off the sata with no conflicts. This board has a floppy connector and the hook up was painless... good board to do upgrades and refurbs with.

Pros: At first there weren't any Windows 7 drivers, but their site has since been updated and the drivers are now available! OC my Quad from 2.66 to 3.1ghz with no problems what so ever!
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: Don't know why people bash this motherboard for not having Win7 drivers, Win7 is still in beta mode! I guess those people are a bit impatient for these drivers. I've been running this board with the drivers that came with Win7 and I didn't have any problems. I'm buying another board to use as my server!
