Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Thank you for your feedback on this motherboard. There may be a hardware bottleneck with your CPU/GPU. MMO's typically require high processing power to render many objects on the screen at once. The higher the resolution and graphics settings, the more resources are required by CPU/GPU. We suggest trying a discrete video card first such as those available here: https://www.asus.com/Graphics_Cards/ for better performance. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me below. Thank you.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks exceptionally well with a Phenom II x4 965 Black Edition

Pros: Honestly, I just upgraded from the Phenom 9500 to the Phenom II 965 Black Edition and it is rather exceptional. This motherboard is very stable and does not give me any issues whatsoever even with the CPU switch.

Just make sure that you have the properly upgraded BIOS in this case 1301 to support the new CPU. It works like a charm.

Cons: Long graphics card such as the Nvidia GTX 660 TI or Radeon 4870 will block 2 SATA ports. Why Asus didn't think of this is very puzzling but you can use a PCI SATA card to add more if needed. I ended up using a shorter graphics card the Radeon 7770 and it works perfectly.

Other Thoughts: I threw this in a cheapo DIYPC black case (cheapest one here at $19) and it was a tough fit. But it works as my lightest LAN gaming rig and I can't wait to whip out my plain rig at a party :)

5 out of 5 eggsWorking well with my Phenom 9500 processor.

Pros: Very compatible with up to AM3 processors (no AM3+) so supporting up to a Phenom II x4 965 (currently on Newegg) processor. Very fast and runs Star Wars: The Old Republic on maximum settings with high end video card.

Cons: Only goes up to AM3 processors, large graphics card such as my Nvidia GTX650Ti blocks one of the SATA ports. DDR2 RAM more expensive. I don't know whether this supports 16gb worth of DDR2 RAM either but I heard not.

5 out of 5 eggsWorkhorse love mine

Pros: I have had this board for over 4 years now running a phenom black edition quad core processor. It has been through 4 cases. 2 power supplys, 2 video cards. multiple hard drives. and keeps on trucking. I am so reluctant to upgrade because it paired with that quad core black edition run so well... would recommend it to anyone.

Cons: the bigger video cards to tend to get in the way of the sata ports. but 90 degree sata plugs fix that :)

5 out of 5 eggsfirst time putting together a pc

Pros: I have had it for a few years(2009). 4 gb RAM, 2 hd(500gb)+(750gb) a athlon dual core processor 6000+, it is running on windows xp pro. I have been happy with it, I did overclock my asus vid card, in the first yr. it was fried. this yr I was thinking of upgrading but mabe keep the board add a vid card again, I have been happy with this motherboard, I was also thinking of utilizing both hard drives and running two O/S.

Cons: mostly my computer case. it has the exhaust fan of the power supply blowing on the processor, heating it up and making the cooling fans run at hyper speed. I put a cardboard blocking the warm air and it seems to of slowed the cooling fans down. I have been reading reviews on this board, I haven't found any issues with the board it self.

Other Thoughts: I like it I am looking forward to building another computer, but this one seems to still have some upgradable life in it. I run 2 screens, 40" Samsung HD and a acer 21.5. the onboard graphics is fine for movies running on hdmi. I am not clear on how to use the audio outputs for suround sound hooking up to a home theater. I am using the hdmi into the tv then tv to stereo. I look forward to shopping for a vid card an a O/S this christmas!

4 out of 5 eggsThese things must have a timer

Pros: Good board, although sata ports may be covered by larger graphics cards. Decent enough onboard graphics for high def movies and the like

Cons: I swear computer parts come with a failure timer. Mine is just a couple of months outside the warranty and my sata controller failed. Oh well.

1 out of 5 eggsTerrible board

Pros: Worked for 5 or so months fine.

Cons: Everything.

Stability is horrible when it starts to go bad. I get lots of blue screens and games are constantly crashing. I scanned RAM with memtest, ran furmark for my video card and none of them get errors. PSU is fine. Not viruses or anything either.

The layout is awful to. The SATA 2 ports on the board and conveniently located in the path of the video card. So if you plan on putting a modern video card in, you won't be able to use most of the SATA 2 ports unless you get the "flat style" connectors, which are pretty rare.

Customer service is nonexistent. You have you register on ASUS' site and create an account for tech support. A few days later, they have still not verified my account. Pathetic. If it takes them a week to get my account working, how long will it take them to do a replacement?

Other Thoughts: Don't buy this board. ASUS has terrible customer service, which means buying anything from this is rather foolish.

Stick with another brand.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Independent voltage control on CPU, ram, NB. FSB control in 1MHz increments, onboard HD-audio and HDMI audio+video. Supports AM3 with bios update. 100% compatible with Debian or Ubuntu Linux out of the box, that was my main reason for getting this board. The Express Gate function is cool if you turn your computer off and just want to check email/web in 5 seconds.

Cons: No memory timing control! This is a setback for serious overclocking. It is using the geforce 8300 chipset, so it doesn't support AMD's Advanced Clock Calibration, so no unlocking the 3rd and/or 4th core or pushing for that extra 300 MHz or so.

Other Thoughts: Great motherboard for more use. The lack of memory timing controls is a little bit of a set back for overclocking, but it does have 1MHz increments on the FSB and voltage controls. It is still way above average for overclocking for those reasons. For the price, it might be the best bang for buck. If you are using a dual or triple core phenom or phenom II, I would checkout some boards with an AMD chipset that supports AAC. This will allow you to unlock the extra cores. They may not work, but its worth trying if you like tinkering around with your computer. There are a lot of people with success stories.

1 out of 5 eggsBad Experience

Pros: Enough slots for Memory.

That's it.

Cons: I had previously bought this exact one and it was shot two times after turning it on. I returned that one and bought this one again. When I hooked up the power to the fan on the CPU, it would not work. I even had someone take a look at it and turns out it's the motherboard again. I've gone through two mobo's with no luck. I will not buy it again. Really bad experience.

Other Thoughts: I know asus is a good brand for computer parts but this just made me lose confidence in them.

3 out of 5 eggsSO MUCH POTENTIAL... but fear too

Pros: This board is in my mind, the center of a perfect media center. It has everything needed to provide a wonderful experience...

Cons: I've had this for 10 months now and while it still works, it didn't work like I wanted it to. I originally bought it to use with LinuxMCE, but the drivers weren't compatible. So I ended up using it with XBMC. Unfortunately, I can't get that program to not crash at least once a day which isn't what I want from a Media Center. I also made a mistake of originally using two 1TB hard drives in a RAID 0 and I had about 1.5 TB of movies on them... Then one of the hard drives started to fail... It took me 3 weeks but I was slowly able to copy everything off to external drives and have since replaced the bad drive with a RAID 5 configuration and four 1TB drives.

Also, the same thing other people have mentioned about it not posting happens to me ocasionally if I'm doing a restart. As long as I turn off the power and flip the switch on the power supply for enough time to drain all electricity, it will turn back on, but if I don't do that, I just get a black screen of nothing.
