do not buy ASUS motherboards
- Pros: Looks nice?
- Cons: Expensive for a motherboard that get's stuck on the POST screen.
- Other Thoughts: I took the advice of the previous reviewer and called ASUS and they do indeed send this motherboard out with a very old BIOs revision that does not support the new processor steppings. So despite the claim that this motherboard supports my processor, ASUS is charging me $25 for my BIOs chip. Also, Newegg keeps insisting that they will RMA my board even though this is my second board (the first board came with the same BIOs revision) that gets stuck on the POST screen.
Conclusion: "Once you know, you don't Newegg" and don't buy ASUS motherboards unless you want your computer parts to sit in the living room for a month while they finally figure out that they are sending out junk and decide to charge extra to fix their own problem.
its the BIOS
- Pros: i finally got it past the POST screen. YAY.
I owe a thank you to the reviewer before me that posted about the BIOS. If I was newegg I would quit shipping these boards until they are updated.
- Cons: The first board I was shipped froze on POST, so did the RMA board. Apparently the installed BIOS doesnt support the newer processors. I installed an old P4HT and it booted just fine. Then I updated the BIOS and now it boots with my core2quad.
- Other Thoughts: The slipstreamed XP disc I always use gives me the BSOD with this board. I guess I will have to try something else to load windows.
Follow up...
- Pros: Lot's of features
- Cons: Does not ship with the newest BIOS
ASUS RMA will replace your brand new motherboard with a refurbished model at your expense
- Other Thoughts: I feel I should follow up my review from before. After RMA'ing on board and one stick of RAM, an ASUS tech finally figured out that my BIOS did not support my processor stepping. I had to swap out with an older LGA775 chip so I could upgrade the BIOS. My board shipped with 3030 bios revision and they are now up to version 7xxx. Why not ship these with the newest BIOS, ASUS? I doubt these boards really sit in warehouses for that long. I imagine this is the problem that is plaguing many others, so if this board freezes during POST, you might as well have the tech support rep check this. Side note, if you need to RMA your brand new board, do it through NewEgg. ASUS isn't very upfront with this, but they will replace your brand new board with a refurb model and charge you one way worth of shipping. This is unacceptable for a brand new board. Especially when they don't need to be RMA'd as often as the reps will tell you they do.
