4 out of 5 eggsFix for BIOS Problem

Pros: Ran this board almost continuous around the clock for more than 4 years. Went through 2 sets of enterprise RAID disks. When the second set of disks had a failure, after about 5 reboots, the BIOS became bricked with a very common problem where the NV RAM fills up with error entries, and won't finish the boot sequence. Error Msg:
"Not enough space in runtime area!!. SMBIOS data will not be available".
BIOS bug exists in that there is no reset for the NV RAM despite the message directing you to proceed. None of the remedies I found anywhere worked, until I found MyTech selling replacement BIOS chips on _Bay for about $15. Had to ship from Europe, but worked like a charm! Board is back up and working again!!

Cons: RAID controller BIOS doesn't support rebuilding the array by adding a new disk. Have to full-back it, wipe it, redefine the array, and full-recover it.

Other Thoughts: The only issues with this board have been the AMI BIOS, which is very popular, and used on tons of different boards, so it's hard to knock the board for that fault. But two serious BIOS problems will cost ASUS an egg, because they haven't posted any support for either problem in four years, despite numerous posts about the problems. I'm just posting this now, so that anyone else still running this great board will know there is a cheap, effective solution to the bricked BIOS. Buy a new chip for cheap, and swap it out.

5 out of 5 eggsonly Lasted 3.8 years!

Pros: Great Board!!!
For as long as it lasted. i wish it lasted longer. but, oh well. got almost 4 years out of it. ran it pretty hard the last year or two with a couple of highly intense graphics games. Pirates and World of Tanks.
used Graphics card 4870 x2. not two cards. the x2 card.

Cons: did not last as long as i would have liked it to. and i did keep it cool.

Other Thoughts: Amd Phenom 2 X4 940 cpu.
1000 watt power supply.
4 Sticks of 2 Gig Ram. G Skill F2-8500CL5D-4GBPK
As Per the Qvl from the Book/owners manual.
Amd radeon 4870 X2 Graphics card.
To the Guy having memory Problems use this ram and u will have no problems. this board only runs 1066 in 2 slots, per the book, read the book! if u fill 4 slots the ram can only run at 800. the 2 yellow slots are only for 1066 speed. Page 2-11 and 2-12 in book.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't trust their repair shop

Pros: The board was one of the best i had. Almost had not probs with it for a couple years.

Cons: The Asus shop scratched my board in the repair it did. Couldn't tell me what repair they did and seems fishy to me. Sent it back to them very well packed and got a return reject saying it was scratched on the board.
Looked at the board and it looks like they used aligator clips and scratched it over the copper.
Am not happy with asus repair now.IM out a board and 188.00
I had tried to call them, never got a return call or any response after.

Other Thoughts: If you buy from asus hope you never have to get a repair done by them. You'll only be extremely dissapiointed. I also has pic's sent that i send to them. Never heard a word.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Sorry to hear about the issues. Please contact us at Newegg_ASUS_MBSupport@asus.com stating any RMA case numbers you have and we will look into this for you.

Regards
ASUS Customer Support

5 out of 5 eggsFirst Asus

Pros: Nice heat sinks on board, Bios has tons of great features, put it all together and it worked fine with no problems!

Cons: Sata ports, hate it when they face the side and not face upward makes plugging things in a real pain in the but.

Only complaint....

Other Thoughts: Great to use with a phenom II 940

5 out of 5 eggsAMAZING System Board

Pros: Smooth install, tons of options, plenty of room to work. The power switch integrated onto the mobo is an awesome idea! Saves a ton of time when testing a system during the build. I have built two systems with this board, soon to be three, and I have had no issues whatsoever. Overclocking software is pretty cut & dry, and it works very well. Do not question the purchase of this mobo, you will not be disappointed!

Cons: original drivers were a bit dated.

Other Thoughts: grab latest drivers from asus usa.

5 out of 5 eggsCool board, best out for AM2+

Pros: Solid, no problems with overclocking. Very nice features in BIOS. Not prohibitive at all - or cryptic. Tons of options for Overclocking if you so desire. Also, handling 8 GB of DDR2 1066 (Corsair Dominator) without any instability issues.

Cons: doesn't distill whiskey.

Other Thoughts: System:
AMD PhenomII 940 3Ghz OC'd to 3.7Ghz
8GB Corsair Dominator DDR2 1066 OC'd to 1100
Asus M3A79-T Deluxe Motherboard
1 75 GB WD Raptor 10,000 RPM System Drive
2 1TB WD Data drives
CoolerMaster Cosmos 1000 Case
CoolerMaster V8 CPU Heatsink/Fan
6 Thermaltake 93CFM fans (one mounted on V8)
Sapphire Radeon 4870 1GB
Samsung 22" LCD - 2ms 2253LW

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great

Pros: Had a M3A32MVP and I had stability issues witch culminated in an RMA due to dead IDE SATA controller chip.(that is what ASUS told me) I got this before I sent the other board in and it has work flawlessly. I have the Phenom 2 X4 940 (BLACK) running stable at 3.8 GHZ at 1.5 V. I water cool but still have 2 120mm case fans to keep the board cool. No heat issue at all.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: If you don't go crazy with BIOs settings it is easy ti get a stable OC for every day use.
