Asus's ROG series motherboards have an unparalleled reputation within the overclocking community and their Rampage II Extreme motherboard is the next step. Based on Intel's X58 Express and ICH10R chipsets, this ATX board is ready to host the newest LGA1366 Core i7 processors for ultimate powerful performance.
Up to 12GB of DDR3 1333 RAM can be installed in triple channel mode providing increased performance. Get even more performance – up to 1800Mhz – through overclocking. Three PCI-Express 2.0 x16 cards can be mounted for cutting-edge graphic power with support for either NVIDIA SLI or ATI CrossFireX. 100% all high-quality conductive polymer capacitors give longer life and higher energy efficiency by supplying power to vital components independently.
Get eight channels of HD sound from the ADI AD2000B audio chipset for pure, clear audio. Connect up to six SATA drives at 3Gb/s for high-speed data transfers as well as the option for multiple RAID configurations. Integrated dual Gigabit Ethernet LAN allows bottleneck-free connections to other network devices at broadband speeds and six USB 2.0 ports allows for nearly unlimited possibilities in connecting peripheral devices.

This board is an i7 MURDERER
- Pros: As stated before, if the board did not have the issue it would have perfectly suited my needs.
- Cons: The cold boot issue, which I mentioned in my previous review, is actually a short-circuit. At the time I knew that one of my cooling fans was fried and Newegg replaced it for me.
What I didn't know - my $1,029 Intel Core i7 965 Extreme Edition was ALSO FRIED!
THEY RELEASED THIS BOARD WITH A KNOWN ISSUE THAT MURDERED MY EXPENSIVE i7!!!
- Other Thoughts: I will never buy ASUS again, especially after they sent me a defective EEE PC.
STAY AWAY FROM THIS UNLESS YOU WANT EXPENSIVE HARDSHIPS!!!
Thanks to Intel for replacing my processor. Newegg rocks too for taking this board back.

Manufacturer Response:Dear Valued Customer, Please contact our Technical Support Department at http://vip.asus.com/eservice/techserv.aspx and reference case number "NE305740" so that we may get more details about your system configuration and assist you in resolving these issues you are experiencing. Best Regards, ASUS Support Team
Be careful of case selection..
- Pros: Don't know yet, but I'm sure I'll be happy with it!
- Cons: I'm receiving this board tomorrow, got excited, and decided to make sure I didn't have any holes in my new rig's setup.
Well low and behold this board is 12 inch x 10.6 inch ( 30.5 cm x 26.9 cm ), which is technically NOT the ATX standard. Standrad ATX is 12 x 9.6, so we'll see if this fits in the Antec P182 I bought for it.
My own fault mostly, but this board is not standard ATX which Newegg (and ASUS) should change in the specs on their websites.

Great Board
- Pros: This is a great board that can take your chip to the brink of what it is capable of. Like most x58 boards it does suffer from the 222mhz wall and even with alot of tweaking I've only managed to get to 225mhz base clock for benching.
- Cons: The EZ flash bios tool is not so easy. I ended up using a flash drive and using their Afudos to flash it instead, which worked perfectly. It would be a nice feature, but it could never seem to see the bios files I had.
- Other Thoughts: Watercooling the chipset on the x58 boards has proved to be worthless as I did not get a single mhz higher of a maximum overclock and the chipset didn't run hot in the first place. This isn't a con against the board it is just a don't waste your time comment.
My Best Build Ever !!!
- Pros: This board has been rock solid and trouble free for me. Easy overclocking and more features than I will ever use.
- Cons: The only con I can think of is the price...
- Other Thoughts: I am sorry to hear the negative reviews. It makes me feel almost guilty that my build has been so trouble free and has worked so well. With OCZ gold memory, I7 Core 920 CPU, Velociraptor drives, and 2 ATI video cards I have had this machine purring along at 3.8 Ghz at 37 degrees C, for the last 6 months with out a problem. It takes everything I can throw at it with out breaking a sweat. The highest temps I have had after gaming hard for 3 hours are CPU at 41 C and MB at 36 C with Zalman 9900 cooler. I love it !!!
Another ASUS Homerun
- Pros: High Quality*Unparalleled Customization*Best-in-Breed OC MOBO*
- Cons: I only have one.
- Other Thoughts: If your an overclocker or a wannabe this is the board for you with more out of the box oc options than any other board on the market.
