5 out of 5 eggsgreat board

Pros: replaced dell 518 board, even though it works,i like the q6600 chip though it runs abit warm normal i heard for intel thats normal.built a apu a83850 and its close to equal, but the graphics hype sucked me in and the graphics should be better with apu, time will tell.runs constantly no complaints works fine as expected.

Cons: none,old but gold technology.

1 out of 5 eggsGarbage

Pros: Made by Asus

Cons: We are a PC repair shop. We ordered 1st board; board was unable to detect CPU fan, says temperature is 0c, says voltages are outside limits. Same results with 2nd fan, 2nd CPU, and 2nd power supply.
RMA'd board. The second board we received had identical problems.
Removed all extra items - unplugged all cables, graphics board, left only 1 memory board in, no disks or IDE connected. Cleared CMOS. Board still says no fan, and CPU temp is 0c. We give up ... this Asus board is garbage.

1 out of 5 eggsShould've Believed What Others Reviewed

Pros: RAID in small Micro-ATX motherboard.

Cons: A Lot Of Cons:
P5Q-EM DO is unstable and unreliable in my opinon. This model is difficult to set up settings in BIOS. CPU fan error is shown all the time. I suppressed this error in BIOS., but it takes 5 seconds to switch between menu items in Hardware Monitor, but I don't know why. Motherboard cannot detect CPU temperature properly (always 0C/32F). Also motherboard temperature is very hot compared to other motherboards. I have used P5Q-VM which is very stable and reliable. I expected that P5Q-EM DO is comparable or better than P5Q-VM (no RAID).

Other Thoughts: I should have believed what the other reviewers have said. I thought that problems do not happen to me. At least I wanted to get the good motherboard. I think that P5Q-EM DO model is not a good product for the end user customers.

2 out of 5 eggsWrong product description

Pros: Seemed to run alright once I got a chip in it that it would accept.

Cons: The product description said it would accept a Pentium D chip but after trying for hours to get it to post I went to the Asus website which was hard to navigate and find any troubleshooting tips, I found out that this board does not support a Pentium D chip

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great in HTPCs

Pros: HDMI works great. Purchased two of these at different times for HTPC (Win7-32). Both worked great right out of the box. No issues.

Cons: Had to do a little jockeying to make it fit comfortably in the HTPC cases...but, it worked.

Other Thoughts: Both machines have been operating fine since they were assembled. Used SSD HD for fast startup and portable HD for content/media.

1 out of 5 eggsAsus warranty not the best

Pros: When it works, this board does an outstanding job. RMA's work well after you learn their system.

Cons: Asus Warranty is slow and their quality control for returning products is not good.

Other Thoughts: The NIC port on this board has failed twice. The first RMA went well and in 3 weeks I was back up and running. My second NIC failure and RMA resulted in getting the same serial number board back that had not been repaired. It appears Asus pulled the Mobo from my factory box, sat on bench for a week, then put in mylar bag and shipped back as is. I'm spending more on postage than the board is worth. I am highly considering trying a different manufacturer for my future builds.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Sorry to hear about the issues. We hope the replacement board works fine for you.

1 out of 5 eggsBe wary of Newegg

Pros: The motherboard would not power up from day 1; so I have no pros to pass along.

Cons: This mobo did exactly what the 1st review I read claimed. Green lights came on but it would not power up. When I obtained my RMA and returned the board, I had no doubts that I would receive satisfaction. Since the board was defective, I was not happy to be charged the restocking fee along with return shipping. I was shocked to learn that my return would not be honored. "End user" damage was the claim for denial. Of course something was bad, in this case the pins, that is why it wouldn't power up and why I returned the part. Whether it was shoddy workmanship or damage caused by shipping or maybe even damage caused by shippers at Newegg, I do not know. Be wary, because the philosophy here is obviously that the customer is always wrong

Other Thoughts: I am very disappointed to spend this amount of money for a defective mobo with a company I had thought highly of only to find that I must accept the part as is -damaged. After reading the reasons to reject reviews on this page, I am convinced that this review will be rejected. The gavel has sounded on this return and probably this review. The sad part is that I have little, if any, recourse. I have attempted contacting customer service but have yet to receive a response. Words sounding off to deaf ears appears to be my lot. Another waste, first of my money and now of my time; what a disappointment.

3 out of 5 eggsworked for a year, then shorted

Pros: Worked great for a year. Ran reliably, never had a problem until the very end.

Cons: Completely shorted and fried my processor along with it. Just one day...didn't start up. Big white visible burn marks when removed from case. looks like it started with an electrolytic cap on the top blowing.

Other Thoughts: wish i could definitively say it was cause of cheap product...but i ordered Asus because i've got a similar board running for years now and no issues, despite the computer being roughly treated...maybe just a bad unit?

5 out of 5 eggsUpset about reviews

Pros: Board has worked flawless since day 1
No issues with XPPro-32 or Win7-64
Loaded ESX 4.0 w only issue of course being no IPMI

Cons: None that wern't expected, notice placement of SATA ports on MBD in reference to PCIE slot regarding large graphics cards.

Other Thoughts: Please see reviews giving one star because of OS compatibility issues. It states in the manual "This motherboard supports Windows® 32-bit XP/32-bit Vista/64-bit XP/64-bit Vista operating systems (OS)." I know that typically this doesn't mean it does not support other operating systems, but you can't fault the hardware for not supporting something it never said it did in the first place.
