2 out of 5 eggsSATA Dosn't work all the time

Pros: Loved the board until the I have to reboot 2 to 3 time to make it see all my drives

Cons: Has a big problem with its SATA connectors. Some times it will see all my drives but most times I have to reboot 2 or 3 times for it to see my SATA drives. I brought new sata cables the lock when you plug them in put Still will not see all of my drives at times. I have 4 sata drives. At times it only sees 2 drives at boot. Then I have to reboot for it to see the drives. Looking for another board.

Other Thoughts: Looking for another board

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We're sorry to hear about the issue you had with SATA drive detection. Have you tried updating to the latest BIOS? Can you tell me what drives you have connected? Do the drives not appear in BIOS, in the OS, or both? Please contact me at cl-benson@asus.com (reference #C1037-6676 in the subject line) for continued support.

Regards,
Benson

1 out of 5 eggsSATA only workes sometimes

Pros: works great when it sees all of my SATA drives

Cons: I have 4 SATA drives and most of the time I have to reboot 2 to 3 times for the board to see the SATA drives. I brought 4 new sata lock cables that lock on to tha drive to seee if I had lose cables. Still the same thing. Time to look for another board/
.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We're sorry to hear about the intermittent SATA port issues. In addition to trying a different SATA cable, please also try cleaning the connectors on the drive as well as the ports. Identify ports that exhibit non-detection behavior and move drives to other ports to see if the issue is random or repeatable. Are these drives part of a RAID volume? Please report back SATA ports used and BIOS settings to continue support. My email is cl-benson@asus.com. Reference #C1037-6221 in the email subject line for faster reply. If you rather like to RMA the motherboard for advance replacement, which it qualifies (http://www.service.asus.com/#!aps/ctse), please use the RMA submittal form here a t:http://vip.asus.com/eservice/usa_rmaserv.aspx or call 1-812-282-2787.

2 out of 5 eggsNot good

5 out of 5 eggssupport 48GB

Pros: put 6 of kingston module 8gb each, that is 3 pairs of HyperX Blu Red Series 16GBKHX16C10B1RK2/16 and worked perfectly. BIOS reported 49144 usable. Fedora 17 see them all. SAS worked. SCSI 64 bit adaptec.

Great board.

Cons: will update the review as my testing progress.

Other Thoughts: Confusing hardware support that caused some bad reviews.
It is likely built to support dual channel 1.5V DIMM rather than triple channel.

Real workstation board. Shameful it has bad reviews just because of bad hardware support list.

2 out of 5 eggsgood marketing but beyond expectation

Pros: My P6X58 starts to fail, cannot see SATA, drop network, CPU voltage monitor failed, direct memory errors when X11 initialize graphics interface, etc.
I decided to change the board instead of sending it for the 3rd time to ASUS.
The RMA clerk recommended this board to me, it can takes the 1366 CPU and the triple channels memory. Assuming it is a seemless migration of the mobo.
Board cannot see the 24GB, it reports 20GB in both BIOS and Linux Kernel.

Cons: - BIOS reports 20GB instead of the 24GB. Previous board P6X58 reported all 24GB
- Bridge heats up like a lava, even when system is idling

Other Thoughts: PCI for 64 bits cards like the adaptec, mainly the reason I accepted to migrate from P6X58 to this board.

Nice packaging. It is doubly packaged with great graphics on the cover. Nice marketing logo "Professional" and 'Workstation".
Asus should save us $30 bucks if they package this in a brown box, no reason to pay royalty for the marketing and packaging.

Price keep on fluctuating between $140 and $200. I guess Asus does not know what to do with this 1366 legacy mobo - surely since it has lot of trouble with RAM, do a search on the internet.

Already updated to latest BIOS, and will do more testing... this board may be sent back to where it came from. RMA!

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We apologize for the issue you had with the motherboard.

Please try to isolate the slot that does not recognize the 4GB DIMM and retest with known working memory. If no problem, please test the DIMM that was installed in that slot. If the slot does not recognize memory regardless of DIMM used, we suggest RMA the motherboard again.

Benson

5 out of 5 eggs2 year update continued

Pros: everything

Cons: nothing

Other Thoughts: just thought i add another 2 cents. that may help

works fantastic with a Intel Xeon W3550 Bloomfield 3.06GHz even works better overclocked to 3.20ghz seriously 2 years strait flawless can overclock higher but i looking for a stable server over speed

does not work so good and runs extremely hot! with Intel Xeon W3680 Westmere-EP 3.33GHz, runs flaky not stable enough to run for even a week before it froze up and a few reboots in between, disappointing

i tried many memory brands from gskill to crucial and corsair just cause i already had them and kingston INTEL CERTIFIED ECC memory seems most stable and believe to make it all around fastest

my specs

Xeon W3680
12 gigs kingston INTEL CERTIFIED ECC memory 1333mhz
6 x western digital 2 terabyte hard drives
silverstone fortress, case
2 x pci dvr cards 64ch HD
geforce 512mb gtx, it's been so long i don't remember the model number. lol
pc power and cooling power supply
cable broadband streaming

installed at work,fla

5 out of 5 eggsupdate 2 years running

Pros: everything! read other thoughts

Cons: nothing, wasnt free

Other Thoughts: going on 2 years now flawless infact the only time it's been down for around 45 min was not motherboards fault lightning hit the camera wire and blew out 2 cameras and one of the dvr cards AND YET THE MOTHERBOARD SURVIVED !i using it as a linux camera DVR server. that means its running 24 hours a day 7 days a week with out brake. that also means it's constantly writing to the hard drives 24/7 also 24/7 compressing and decompressing video and internet access streaming video over the internet. the only heavy workload i can think of would be to run prime benchmark lol no really it's a fine motherboard once i got it stable with manually setting memory timings well its been running flawless 2 years non stop and ever survived a lightning strike, now you see why i say "everything" been thinking when price goes dawn more my have to buy another for back up dont want to push my luck i was very lucky i survived the first time

5 out of 5 eggsMy favorite board

Pros: This board never quits. I have never turned it off since I installed it and I have never had any problem with it whatsoever.

Cons: I just wished I had built it with SSD as it is a bit slow to boot!

5 out of 5 eggsFirst build

Pros: I chose this board for my first SERIOUS PC build. I'd saved an older but new, intel I7 940 processor. Installed 4 gigs of Corsair 1333 DDR3s and a pair of used PNY 8800 GTS graphic cards running win 7 64 bit. Have it running in all default mode since I've never O/C components before. It's by far the fastest PC I've ever had and runs flawlessly. If I had the Kahunas, I'd overclock everything I could because I know the board is built for this function. Very pleased with ASUS at this point!

Cons: some open apps hang up for 10 seconds or more at times

Other Thoughts: Going to learn about overclocking to get the full potential from this board.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat so far!

Pros: Easy installation on all case connections Bios easily identified components...

Cons: None so far. Seems very stable!

Other Thoughts: This is just a replacement board fro my Gigabyte board that was giving interference sound through my speakers and performance was lagging. This board is WAY MORE STABLE! And about 5 times faster at accessing hard drives than the Gigabyte board (I only changed out the Mobo to get these new results.) So I'm happy but haven't owned it for a long time yet. We'll see but it seems stable and all components are correctly configured in Windows 7 64bit. Does seem to take longer to start than the Gigabyte board but the performance is FAR BETTER!
