5 out of 5 eggshas worked past five years.

Pros: Bought the board for my first build, Way back in 2/28/2009. I never heard of ASUS, but tried them anyways for a Gaming PC. Boy, did I get my money's worth! Rhetorical. But yeah, I ended up buying the wrong RAM for it 'Tri-Channel 1600', sent back and got the correct RAM. Never had a worry thus far. It even supports my HUGE ThermalTake SpinQ V1 for the past four years. Not a bend in sight. Audio On-board is 5.1 and works well, though I mostly use the HDMI. I used the iGPU for two years before getting an 8600GTX, but then moved up in rank. It was perfect for a beginner board, and even an advanced one as the OC on it works great!

Cons: None in the past 5+ years.

Other Thoughts: Planning on buying another board as it has become dated, but come on, FIVE PLUS YEARS!? Awesome.

5 out of 5 eggsGood product

Pros: Purchased Jan2010 with no issues. Boad has performed as expected as all my previous ASUS products have.
The bios is easy to operate.
The built in sound quality was as good as the seperate sound card i installed.
Runs second monitor without issue

Cons: The Grounding needs to be secured. Being the guy that rebuilt an engine with a box of left over parts will experience issues with operation. All the screws on the board should be installed. Only issues I ever had with it, but that is 100% user error.

Other Thoughts: never had to deal with ASUS tech support. Their responses on here are very standard. I can say nothing about them as I have never called them. But I imagine it is like most places, not every customer can be pleased because some people are just that way. As for failed boards on return, EVERY manufacturing has the occasional defect. Even NASA look at the shuttle a few years back.

5 out of 5 eggsVery Good Board!!!!

Pros: have owned 2 of these boards for over 3 years now and one got hit with a lightning spike , it did take out the on board lan and now i have to shut it down with windows instead of hitting the power button ,but for a board to be able to withstand all that this one has ,I'M IMPRESSED!!!...I've bought asus boards for several years now and nothing but top quality ..i would recommend this board to anyone

Cons: none that i can think of

Other Thoughts: would recommend this board to anyone !!!...i don't understand the negative comments on this board ,i suppose it's possible for a few "bad eggs " to get past quality control ,but , all in all i'm one happy customer!!!

Cons: Died on me, and now im having the hardest time trying to figure out if its still covered.

Manufacturer Response:

I would be happy to look into that for you. Please send me the serial number of your motherboard, and I can check to see if it is still has a warranty. Your reference number is 2949073.

4 out of 5 eggsWorked fine, died

Pros: The board worked and did everything it needed to do for two years of my life.

Cons: The board died on me shortly after my warranty expiration. My PC constantly bluescreened, and failed to boot many, many times. Unfortunately, I don't have any extra equipment to test motherboards, or a spare one to swap it out and test, so it took sending it out to a professional to get the news I had already suspected.

I always had strange problems that seemed to come out of nowhere with my PC, and now I wonder whether or not the motherboard has always been unreliable.

Other Thoughts: The board did what it was supposed to do, and it lasted a few years. I can't tell whether or not the board was always the problem with my PC, but I do know that all my problems were fixed the minute I got a new one.

Either way, the board is discontinued, so no one will have to worry about this review. I just put this up in case anyone else has the same problem as I do and needed another hint as to the culprit of their problems. If your computer's been bluescreening and you're at your wit's end, try testing out the motherboard. More likely than not, that's your issue.

1 out of 5 eggsAlways BSOD since I've owned it

Pros: Not feeling any at the moment since I always get BSODs and have to reinstall windows 7

Cons: Have always gotten BSODs with this motherboard. I was able to put up with them since they were less frequent in the beginning. Now it's constant. One thing I noticed from the very beginning is that when the Windows logo came up there would be this strange artifact - the logo seemed to have trailing lines streaking off to the right side, almost like static or electrical interference. This occurred on both monitors of my dual monitor setup. I've always suspected a problem with the onboard graphics. I can't shell out for a graphics card just to test the theory, because if the board is not useable, why would I want to buy a gpu that I will be throwing away with this motherboard. I should have contacted ASUS when I first noticed this defect, but it seemed like it would be a lot of trouble. Not happy with my purchase.

2 out of 5 eggsWas good for the price

Pros: Worked well while it lasted.

Cons: Had a few issues with drivers for the board. Boot up error messages for installing a few of the "extra" drivers that were available.

After 3 years of hard use, I lost video output through my graphics card. I figured the card had given up, so I swapped to the on-board video. That lasted about a day before that output was defunct. While that was up, I looked to see if my video card was even detected, and it wasn't. Swapped the card to the second PCI Express slot, and viola! I have video output again. Always booted and posted, just had no video. My only assumption is that the board is rage quitting on itself, since everything else is working flawlessly.

Other Thoughts: I'd love to get an exact replacement board, but they are discontinued. I plan to build a better box in the future and hand this one to a friend, but with a bad board, it would be better as a door stop. Unfortunately, the only place that has this board in stock wants $240...almost DOUBLE the cost that this board originally was.

1 out of 5 eggsASUS No Help

Pros: Work for about 2 year, Nice Bios, never had an issue worked prefect.
Purchased it on 7/6/2010

Cons: After 2 years I noticed the PC would shutdown. I thought the power supply was the issue after a support session with Microsoft. I replaced it but that didn't solve the problem even switched out the monitor. Finally I did research other people having the same issue with their ASUS M4A78T-E AM3 AMD 790GX HDMI ATX AMD Motherboard shutting down. I sent my motherboard back to ASUS and the same motherboard was sent back to me in a couple weeks. Still not working without shutting down times a day over 4th day. It appears ASUS had no plans to fix these boards.

Other Thoughts: I am done buying ASUS products. Beware of ASUS customer service and repairs.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We're sorry to hear about your experience with the motherboard. Please our conversation, please RMA the board to us so that we can look again into the shutdown issue. We apologize for the inconvenience. Thank you.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat board

Pros: Ive been using This board with a Phenom X3 720 (Heka) OC'ed to 3.10 GHZ and a ati 5770 for a couple years now and never had a problem. I have put many hundred's (thousands maybe) of hours gaming on this board and its never had a single issue.

For me this board was part of a great budget gaming build, i paid under $700 when built and it still plays any title I throw @ it with ease (I did add a SSD later but still.)

The on board graphics are nice in a pinch, lucky i have never need them though.

Cons: None, perhaps not as many bells and whistles as a more expensive board but none were expected.

Other Thoughts: I would buy a similar mid grade asus for my next build, however this system keeps performing so i don't have any need to upgrade yet.
