5 out of 5 eggsGreat Product!

Pros: I bought this Mobo over 3.5 years ago and overclocked it and a couple of different cpu's at least 200 different times and unless I was doing something wrong it has always run excellent! It had everything I ever needed and more. I recently upgraded to a newer board, also an Asus! But I will still be using this one for my secondary PC.

Cons: None!

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic

Pros: Durable, fast, easy to install, on board HDMI

Cons: On board HDMI is really only good for connecting to HDTV or HDMI Monitor. Playing high end game will require an expansion video card

Other Thoughts: Having installed this 2 yrs ago I am still going strong with zero issues. It's durability is impressive for technology these days.

1 out of 5 eggsBeware!

Pros: I have nothing good to say about this motherboard

Cons: view other thoughts...

Other Thoughts: Be very careful when buying this motherboard people! At first it worked for me but after a while I started getting the blue screen and it has been freezing whenever I try to play games on it. I tested every device in my computer to make sure it was working and I got down the it and my CPU. I switched CPUs with my friends computer which is compatible with mine and his computer didn't freeze while the CPU was on his motherboard. So I shipped it to Asus and they "repaired" it and sent it back. It is still freezing up at random points and before I sent it in I could play like two hours of games without it freezing on me but now I can't play for five minutes without it freezing or blue screening on me. Very disappointed in Asus for not just replacing it.

2 out of 5 eggsbroken bracket

Pros: good mobo overall, worked good for a while not excellent but good, started getting errors and after quite a bit of trouble shooting got it fixxed via outside sources.

Cons: cheaply made bracket on the cpu, basicly i was updating my ram and noticed the cpu heatsink moved a bit, upon further investigation found the brack had broken, mind you the comp doesn't over heat due to my case so heat is not an issue and aslo nothing goes near my comp except me so nothing came in contact with said bracket, seems cheaply made if you ask me.

Other Thoughts: looking into another mobo manufacturer with better looking cpu brackets. if you don;t mind cheaply made brackets get it if you want something a little stronger look else where.

5 out of 5 eggsWorked like a champ

Pros: This came with the rest of my parts, wired er up docked er in and bam. She went a blazing. Ran XP 64 bit until my win7 came in.

Cons: none rock solid and a beast

Other Thoughts: Me thinks some people have no clue what they are doing to get no post issues. Did they take the battery out for a watch.

1 out of 5 eggsNo POST problems on TWO boards

Pros: Couldn't tell you would not even POST.
Newegg's RMA policies and exceptions.

Cons: Again, had similar issues as other customers with the "No POST" phenomenon.

Other Thoughts: Purchased as combo with AMD Phenom II X3 710. While troubleshooting I only had the mobo(s)/cpu/psu hooked up and still had the "no post" issue. Very disappointed as I used to not have to worry about ASUS boards and their quality.

5 out of 5 eggsWhy was my comment removed??

Pros: 4 PCI-e slots that can be used for SATA controllers. Onboard video which makes it excellent for a server project. BIOS very flexible and easy to adjust for USB booting.

Cons: The price, competition had it cheaper but was out of stock.

Other Thoughts: I posted a comment here before and found it was removed. Why? This board is being used in an unRAID server and works excellently. Was it because of the mentioning of unRAID that the comment was removed?

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome

Pros: Awesome, this thing flies through anything you throw at it. Pair this bad boy with a Phenom II x4 and you'll be all set. No problems, no DOA or anything. First Asus mobo and I dont think it'll be the last.

Cons: No DDR3 support, but not really a con because as of now DDR3 is only about 2% better than DDR2. Also larger video cards take up one PCI slot, but if you don't mind x8 w/o the switch card then it doesn't matter.

Other Thoughts: This Motherboard
AMD Phenom II x4 955 Black Edition
4gb G.Skill 1066
EVGA GTX 260
Creative X-fi
Zalman 9900

1 out of 5 eggsASUS M4A78-E

Pros: Nice feature that lets you boot to a BIOS resident OS for fast access to widgets for weather, email, internet...etc.

Cons: I had to return it within a week of receiving it. First, it wouldn't accept my Creative X-FI sound card. Every time I would try to load the drivers for the sound card, it would freeze. I tried reloading Win 7 from scratch and trying it again and I got the same results. I decided to take the sound card out and go with the onboard sound and that worked ok until I loaded the control panel software that came with the board. I got errors on the start up and on the shut down sequences. I also tried to use the latest version of control panel from the Asus site and I got the same results. It's really a shame cause I have had about 6 ASUS motherboards and this is the first one that I have had a problem with.

Other Thoughts: If you are going to use the board as a simple computer for email, internet and casual gaming, it may suit your needs. However, if you want to squeeze every bit of performance out of it, it may not be the best board for you. Maybe if you are going to be using WIN XP instead of Win 7, you will have better luck.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Outstanding performance

Cons: Not enough room for video card if you use the two extra card slots.

Other Thoughts: Need a video cart that will fit with this board and use the two extra card slots.
