Up and running...finally !
- Pros: After getting it all figured out, the board works and does give access to every possible voltage and clocking setting possible. Definitely making it the over-clockers dream, which I have yet to dip into. Thankful it works.
- Cons: After about a week of trial and error, I have a new system up and running. As others have mentioned, I too was on a budget to build a system and it was a toss up between this board and the "GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3P LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard". In the past, my last couple builds involved ASUS motherboards and have perform reliably and solid to the core. So I went with ASUS again. Now not sure why it was so difficult to install Windows7 on this, but I was stuck on the OS booting after the initial install. Which I couldn't get the install to commit the first 20 tries, due to unknown variables. I did call the ASUS tech support, which was relatively easy to get though to a live technician, who walked me through some BIOS settings and ended up focusing on my memory. WARNING-This card my not read your memory settings on AUTO correctly. I did need to input the memory latency and voltage manually for them to be correct. Good luck...
- Other Thoughts: As stating above, it was a struggle to get this board to take an OS. It seems after all my drama, I reset all BIOS settings to DEFAULT and then changed latency and voltage for my Corsair Memory CM2X2G6400C4DHX and then the OS booted and has been working for 2 days now, still installing programs and drivers. Hope this stays solid.
I dont know why it just worked all of a sudden. Something with the BIOS on this board is not perfect and beware if this happens to you. Q9450 Corsair memory Corsair 1000w PSU Western Digital black RAID-0 config GTX 260 CPU cooler COOLER MASTER RR-UV8-XBU1-GP a must have and works like a dream
All settings on standard and Q-fan control enabled CPU temp is 90 degrees F MB temp is 85 degrees F
Pretty cool so far :)
ASUS P5Q Pro
- Pros: While this is about the 'Pro" version, as it is lo longer available I am posting here as I see a lot of the same issues. MB at 9 months running and was rock solid. Easy install fired up on first power up, no issues
- Cons: At 9+ months, unit began random restarts, once it started unit would start and run for hours before starting with problems, time has been decreasing ever since it started. All other components checked and rechecked, down to mb problem. If I left i toff for several days, would run fine for a period, then start again. Unit will continue to cycle unil power is removed.
- Other Thoughts: Looking at Turbo board as a possible replacement, but now not so sure. Support via email sporatic at best, was hoping for an advance replacement but that does not seem likely, hence the replacement and repair/replacement of my current one. Have been using ASUS for 10+ years, first major problem, with suport problems a little hesistant to get another. Currently looking else where.

it works, after alot of research :(
- Pros: sata and ide capable, it fit my extremely low pc budget, has some oc features, decent layout
- Cons: was not able to get ide dvd drives to work at all, gskill 1066 ram does not work, tho that may be a little my fault, 1 out of 3 ide hd's did not work. randoms bsod's have been plagueing me since day 1. windows install give random bluescreens......not cool to be that bottom 10% percentile
- Other Thoughts: i had an extremely low budget to do my pc, to atleast get into the dual core world. this mobo looked promising, but dropped the ball completely. the only reason im giving it more than 1 egg is because it still works, otherwise after all the issues ive had with this thing, the extra parts i had to buy just to make it work properly, it was almost a complete letdown. had about 250 to buy mobo, proc, and ram with, winded up spending over 340 just to be confident with it. ide harddrives barely worked, ide dvd drives didnt work at all, had to borrow a friend sata dvd drive just to install windows. just so happens the gskill ram i bought wasnt in the compatability list for this mobo, more money wasted, but i guess you can blame that on me for not making sure. all in all, this has been a bad experience with this mobo, makes me wish i would have choose amd, but on the other hand, i finally got it workin for the most part correctly.... specs - e7400@stock/p5qpro/kingston 800 4G/8800gt
