Boasting the new AMD AM3 socket, the Asus M4A78 allows you to elevate your rig beyond the standard limits with support for the next-generation 45nm AMD Phenom II processors. The board is able to reach memory speeds up to 1066 MHz for blazing fast memory access for today’s latest applications and games. A pair of PCI-Express 2.0 x16 cards can be mounted for cutting-edge graphic power with support for CrossFireX.
Besides the 2 PCI-Express 2.0 x16 lanes for the CrossFireX video, there is also a PCI-Express x1 and 3 PCI slots providing the flexibility for further system enhancements. Storage won't be a problem with 1-PATA connector plus 5-SATA connectors. Asus Turbo Key transforms the PC power button into a physical overclocking button. After easy setup, Turbo Key can boost performance anytime you like, without interrupting on-going work or games.
With current trends leaning towards green tech and energy savings, this board adopts the brand new 8+1 phase VRM power design to deliver improved energy efficiency, dramatically lower system temperature, and enhanced stability for overclocking. Furthermore, the Asus exclusive EPU (Energy Processing Unit) technology provides total power system efficiency by detecting current loadings and intelligently moderating power in real-time, helping save power and money.

- Pros: Another solid motherboard from Asus. I picked this one because it had what I needed and I didn't want to spent too much money. Got it with Pennom 9950 X4, and some quality DDR2 from Patriot. This setup barley brakes a sweat at stock speeds when converting movies for my iPhone and using as a PS3 media server.
- Cons: No Server 2003/8 drivers but I hope Asus will come up with some soon. Stuck on XP for now.
- Other Thoughts: Will be 5 stars once Asus releases drivers for server OS. Otherwise solid unit and it comes with eSATA which was big thing for me.
Very NIce!!!!
- Pros: Very nice feature filled board. Purely simple overclocking. Board fit perfect in my antec 300 case. A mess load of usb ports. A++
- Cons: None

Serious ground-fault problem with USB system
- Pros: When it ran, it seemed perfectly fine.
- Cons: It didn't run for very long at all.
This board seems to have some pretty serious grounding problems with the USB system. Mine rarely boots, usually issuing an error, "USB Device Over Current Status Detected". This apparently means that there's likely a short or other grounding problem with one of the USB ports. I get this error when there are no USB devices connected either to the headers on the mobo or to the back panel ports, and from what I can see the ports themselves are intact, so I suspect there's a short on the motherboard itself.
Ultimately, the machine is unbootable and the only new part is the motherboard, and the failure appears to be a motherboard-related POST error.
- Other Thoughts: I bought this board in part because of my good experience with ASUS's M4A78-EM, which seems something like this board's little brother, and I'm running a machine with that one just fine. This one has been quite a disappointment.
Great Board
- Pros: This mobo is amazing..
no on board video to drag resources.. loads of USB and ESATA ports motherboard is configured very nicely By far the best over clocking utulity i've used yet
- Cons: NONE
- Other Thoughts: this board
AMD phenom x4 9650 4 gigs OCZ pcs 8500 RAM seagate 7200RPM 1TB drive EVGA ATI radeon 4850 WIndows 7
Excellent Features for the price
- Pros: Got this board in a combo deal with the AMD x4 965 Black ed. for under 250 with rebate. This replaced an old P4 with ABIT MoBo 775 socket. Instead of selling the system, I tried to find the fasted cheapest Quad core set-up I could buy and this is it. You simply will not find a new MB and quad core at this speed & price range. For those complaining about no onboard Gfx card and firewire, what do you expect for a $60 MoBo?
This setup Posted the first time I plugged it in with no problems. An easy build. Lots of USB ports, supports cross-fire set up. Easy overclocking.
This system outperforms my $2500+ intel system (Q9650, 295GTX, ddr2 1066, and EVGA 780sli Mobo) in every category except graphics only because the Gfx card is 2 years old. Otherwise, it is stable and easy to build. I am only use cheap ddr2 800 mhz memory, but it is running Windows 7 loaded with games and utilities without a hiccup.
- Cons: No 1394 input (firewire), no on-board Graphics support, no LED status indicator (Something few have mentioned).
Not as many ATX holes for screws, but not a big issue.
- Other Thoughts: I would imagine as some have experienced, some boards have problems and need to be RMA'd, but if you get as the majority did, a good one, then you will probably not be disjointed.
The key is knowing what you're getting into before you buy it. For the price, I wasn't expecting much, but it actually outdid my low expectations.
Most of the people's low ratings on here seem to come from $300+ Mobo expectations for a $60 MoBo, and of course, you're gonna be disseminated.
Simply rule, you get what you pay for. However, in this case, don't expect the world, but you can expect much more than what you would think for the price.
