Solid motherboard
- Pros: I am not an overclocker. I wanted a good quality board with a passive thermal solution that would help me build a decently fast machine that didn't make any noise when it was running. Windows 7 recognized every device on the motherboard right away. The Asus EPU utility spins the fans down until the temperatures start to climb and then ramps them up under load. I have yet to see the board temperatures climb above 55C under load with idle around 42C. Ambient temp is 25C.
The motherboard is drilled for both LGA 1366 and LGA 775 fans. If you have an LGA 775 fan you can use it with this board.
- Cons: None
- Other Thoughts: Intel Core i7 920 2.66 Ghz

Ok for very basic systems
- Pros: Affordable, i7 extreme support, easy to overclock (when it behaves), idiot proof bios flashing. eSATA is nice and there are plenty of internal usb headers.
- Cons: Part of this is my fault, I should have researched more before purchase... This board does NOT like being overclocked very much at all, especially with the ram dims full (12gb+). I am running the i7 902 D0 stepping with 12 gb of OCZ gold ram and anything above 3.6 ghz is a no go. Sometimes it will be fine for a day, other times it will crash within minutes. I am fairly experienced at overclocking, and no amount of work could get me a stable system. During the process the voltage just wasn't very stable. One of the things that makes this board cheaper than the non-SE is a less advanced voltage control. Seems to make a difference.
Also, there are a few descriptions floating on the net that this board supports SLI. This is NOT true. Asus has fixed this on the site, but others still claim that it does.
- Other Thoughts: You might get better results with only 3 ram slots occupied... I run lots of engineering and modeling software, so that's not really an option.
If you want to try much overclocking, your best bet might be the P6T or at least the non SE edition. Next time around I might try an EVGA Precision...
Boot problem out of the box
- Pros: If I wanted to look at a blank monitor this would be the best MB out there.
- Cons: Boot problems out of the box. No POST beep. Fans came on but nothing more. Tried every trick. rotated a single stick of memory out of a 3 set in the a1 slot, moved the video card to slot 2, MB is out of the case on a non conductive surface, reset CMOS. Absolutely no change. Black screen.
- Other Thoughts: Don't buy this board.
