3 out of 5 eggsA little late.. but

Pros: A late review, by 5 years. But I felt like writing this.
Solid board, no issues after 6 years. It has some nice features if you screw up you can recover from the bad overclock settings. Nice heatsync design, plenty of fan connectors. Feature rich BIOS, easy flash ability, supports all cpus for the socket.

Cons: Bad soundcard design, it uses one slot. The board lacks a bottom most pcie slot, it could have been another x16 or x1. It has only 5 sata connectors instead of 6 and they are only sata 2.
I could never get much overclocking out of my components, so the features this board had were not entirely useful, so I did not get my value out of it.

Other Thoughts: Overall I am satisfied with the board. I am a bit sad that even though it has some nice overclocking features, I never could overclock any thing by very much without bluescreens. My cpu only does 300mhz above base, tried everything. Ram never could overclock. Hyper-transport never could overclock.
I spent too much on this for features that I couldn't use.
Only reason I am here is that I finally decided to get a sata3 card so I could properly hook up my sata3 ssd. It still is pretty fast on sata2, but eh. This board has served me as long as my other board before this did, about as long too. Time for a new one, but this one will now be my server mobo, I needed the extra sata slots from the sata card I have coming.
The little LCD poster display eventually gave out as well.
I don't even use the soundcard any more, my headphones are usb.

3 out of 5 eggsSo far? A bit of a hassle

Pros: Sleek, VERY WELL DESIGNED! I cannot stress how great the PCIe 2.0 x16 ports are designed, what with intuitive and helpful latch releases and ideal placement (For me at least). Cool/helpful lights, and fairly easy to OC with.

Cons: Took a long time to get running, the fan/heatsink area was quite a hassle (more than usual). Tech support has been sluggish at best (continued in other thoughts)

Other Thoughts: So I am not sure if it is all of these motherboards, or maybe just mine, but for me, the PCI slot does not work! I have been trying to get my wireless connection up and running, and all that's happened is I get a little "wireless card not plugged in" despite the fact that I have fit it and re-fit it over and over and over, and it still does not work. I can see it sitting snugly in the slot, everything is connected, and it still does not register. Tech support gave me a 6 hour window in which they will call me, which simply tethers me to the computer that does not function (because I need to get online to get drivers) until they do.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We apologize for the issue that you are having trying to get your PCI WiFi card. Have you already installed the drivers for your PCI WiFi card? When you check Device Manager, do you see any devices listed with a yellow or red exclamation point saying that drivers are not installed?

Please contact me at and reference case number NE0558 so that we may get more details about your system configuration including your Operating System and version.

Best Regards,

ASUS Support Team

4 out of 5 eggsGood motherboard

Pros: 2 PCI-E x16 slots for crossfire, support for the new Phenom II x6 and other AM3 socket processors right out of the box is very helpful.

The BIOS features are such that you shouldn't have to mess with them at all once you set them, they do a lot of things automatically.

Cons: The rear panel is a bit lacking in features, no onboard sound or video, entirely reliant on sound and video cards, but the included sound card should be good enough. Also a shortage of USB plugs thats why they give you the USB PCI card in the box, for an extra 2 USB and 1 IEEE 1394 slot.

Other Thoughts: It would be nicer for me if the sound card and extra USB ports were on the motherboard instead of expansion slots, but for people who like to customize every possible aspect, this does give them more options.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome MOBO!

Pros: I got this motherboard for two reasons, primarily cause I read that the two channel memory is more efficient than the three channel i7 memory, and cause the two PCIe slots both run @ x16 speed. It has been a solid motherboard so far, haven't done any overclocking, but when I do, I'm sure this board will come through for me... Great board...

Cons: None, it's a solid board really...

Other Thoughts: I was such an idiot one day I took one of those air cans to spray out the dust, and I didn't want to take my video card out cause I was just being lazy... I accidently sprayed liquid air on my integrated circuitry on my MOBO. I cursed myself out for being so stupid!!! lol The MOBO is still running, including my 5770, so I got lucky...

5 out of 5 eggsAfter 1 Year+ Still Going Strong

Pros: Had this board for a little over a year and have not had any problems, no blue screens or errors of any kind, I would recommend this mobo to anyone, it doesn't have USB 3.0 which would make it even better, was thinking up upgrading to the Crosshair 4 but it has had to many bad reviews so I think I will stick with this one until they get the bugs worked out of their new boards.

Cons: None

4 out of 5 eggsGreat for the money, One minor detail.

Pros: Works with my X6 processor (after bios update)

Recognized my X6 as a 4 Core CPU pre-update so I was able to do the bios update without borrowing a CPU.

Cons: Driver support for Windows 7 x64 is a joke (from what I've read, Asus driver support is a joke in general)
I've tried every driver on the Asus site / Creative site / Forums I could find and I still can't get sound to work through the Creative SupremeFX X-Fi "Sound Card" that is packaged with it under Win7-64.

Other Thoughts: It really is a good motherboard, I might have taken an egg for the whole day I lost to messing around with the sound card, trying to get it to work.

5 out of 5 eggsSeveral months later [Up-Date]

Pros: I was impressed with this board the first day and still am, this has to be the best motherboard I have ever owned period. After my experience with this M/B I decided to go with a Asus graphics adapter to replace a defective one from another vendor, glad I did!

Cons: South-bridge placement, S/B heat-sink gets covered by large graphics adapters - gets hot.

Other Thoughts: Rigged up a 50MM fan for the S/B and problem fixed. Installing a hi-cfm fan on the N/B helped a lot too as the S/B and N/B are connected by a heat pipe.

5 out of 5 eggsIt works, no OC yet

Pros: It does everything. It has great overclocking tools which I haven't used yet. Dual PCI x16 @ x16 is nice. The board just works and BIOS is easy.

Cons: SATAs are kinda tight depending on your case size and vid card but definitely do-able.

Other Thoughts: Mobo: Asus Crosshair 3 790FX
CPU: AMD Phen. 2 X2 555 Black
...GPU: XFX 5770 Juniper
HDD: 2x WD 320GB RAID 1
PSU: Antec Blue 750W
Case: Cooler Master Centurion 5 Mid Tower
DVD: Asus DVD Burner
