5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Motherboard

Comments: I've built 5 systems with this board so far for family / friends / customers. Every single one has worked wonderfully right out of the box. In fact, ASUS is the only brand that I install, and/or suggest because they always work! As usual, newegg got it to me right on time. If you're purchasing this board for a basic internet/email system on the cheap, this is your board.

5 out of 5 eggs1 year and going strong

Comments: I built up my son's PC with this board a year ago: Athlon XP 2500 & 1 GB of 2900. Put it into a miniATX case and it is the cutest thing. Absolutely no problems, and this thing is running all the time. On board graphics is OK by me - maybe his games aren't that demanding? I use it for video and audio editing without a hitch.

5 out of 5 eggsYes, no, and maybe

Comments: Yes: An all in one solution, best graphics iv'e seen onboard shares max 128mb system RAM. Easy install everything except the RAM.
No: Overclocking ability on BIOS of mobo, also means that you cannot manualy configure the RAM. Unlike other nforce2 chipsets this one doesn't support DDR400, or CAS2, with rare exceptions and there is no official list of supported memory avail from Asus, and RAM manufacturers dont explicitly list this mobo except kingston, who says that their DDR400 CAS2 is NOT compatible in dual channel mode. I can get just about anything to work in single channel, although it is picky about which slot. Dual channel is hit and miss with any CAS2 DDR333 but works well with CAS2.5 DDR333.
Maybe:
At first, Dual channel memory doesn't seem like an advantage with this mobo because the supported CPU's have a max bandwidth similar to that of single channel ram, about 2.7gb/sec, However if you are using onboard graphics then dual channel means that your GPU on the northbrigde gets its own memory channel without stealing anything from the CPU. This is borderline, because if you want better graphics, why buy an onboard GPU? The money you spend on extra RAM could have covered some of the cost of a seperate Graphics card. Also if you ever want to upgrade then you'll have to trash the RAM unless you get a second identical stick and disable the onboard GPU.
Finally: I find this sytem very stable and fast with 1gb dual cannel memory and UATA100 drives. The graphics are a little slower than a geforce 4 because its using CAS2.5 RAM instead of RAMBUS, it plays DOOM3 and need4speed2 smooth at high res but without anti-aliasing. Also remember the DVI and S/PDIF require add on cards from Asus (about $15 each). Hope this gives you a good idea of what your getting into.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat motherboard for basic systems

Comments: I build systems on the side for family, friends and co-workers (work in the I.S. dept. of a magazine printer) and have had excellent luck with these motherboards. Never had to RMA one yet, built about 6 systems using this motherboard, most with boxed 2700+.

Never had these RAM problems people are talking about, but I only used 512MB of PC2700 Corsair Value RAM. I imagine most of these memory issues are related to others using generic junk RAM.

5 out of 5 eggsbest little AMD board for the money

Comments: Asus really created a favorite when they made the A7N8X-vm- 400. I have built over 50 PCs with this board and I can say that I have not had any problems. I use Kingston DDR, that is speed rated for the CPUs on these boards. The CPUs, which I have used on this board are: 2600+, 2800+, 3000+ and the 3200+ All have done well. The Power supplies that I have used are mostly Antecs, above 350W, normally 400W with 40 Amps on the 5V channel.
