4 out of 5 eggsGreat board

Pros: I like the full customization of this board. The fact that you can turn off and on settings from pin jumpers makes setting up the board a snap.

Cons: A bit tricky to get going.
Dual cores require more expensive ECC memory quads can run desktop memory.

Other Thoughts: My only issue and the reason I couldn't give this board a solid 5 was that it took me about 4 months (not all at once or a call to Asus) to figure out that all Dual Cores require ECC memory. I couldn't understand why when my firends i7 was installed it booted fine and when my i3 was installed it wouldn't post. Turned out to be wrong memory. People complaining on the internet about this board didn't realize. I found a strong memory article just uploaded to Asus's website that explained it all. A call to Asus would have cleared it up sooner.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent bargain for VMWare ESXi

Pros: ESXi-compatible network cards, mATX form factor for smaller cases, compatibility with ECC DDR3, rock-solid stable.

Cons: Slow to boot, but all ASUS server boards are.

Other Thoughts: This board was purchased b-stock from Newegg for next to nothing, and has been the best server board I've used yet. Paired with a Xeon X3440 and 8GB of Kingston ECC DDR3-1066, this is my new favorite white box ESXi build.

Supports VT-D!

4 out of 5 eggsDecent entry level server board

Pros: -It's not mentioned anywhere (That I could find) and easily overlooked in the pictures but there is a USB port on the board itself. I acquired a mini USB stick (Item N82E16820235063) and loaded ESXi on it and it boots and runs very nicely.

-I installed a Core i5 quad core and 16GB of regular desktop memory and it came up without a hitch and worked flawlessly with default settings and timings.

-Micro ATX form factor fits in small 2U and 1U cases without compromising a lot of features.

-Dual gigabit NICs

Cons: -Doesn't come with out of band management module. (another 60 depending on where you go.)

-No Linux RAID5 support.

-Fan control options are vague and only change once you reboot. (Minor annoyance)

Other Thoughts: I'm running ESXi 4.1 on this board for a home VM lab and it does the job nicely. The internal USB port and the boot support of it are a real plus.

For the price this is a pretty nice little board.

I gotta laugh whenever I see "Tech level - High" Can you troubleshoot down to the component level and surface mount a bad chip if need be? Didn't think so ;)

5 out of 5 eggsbest micro atx

Pros: what can i say . it works , its fast , running 24/7 haven't had to reboot going on 6 months .

Cons: not a big deal but the bios sets one of the memory timings to fast and installs and runs flaky and is defiantly not 100% stable at those timing. 6 out of 6 of the new atx servers i built and this micro sets Kingston 1366mhz to 99924 T1 when the SPD is 99925 . you wouldn't think that make a big difference, well if you need it stable set the timings to there SPD . thats if your looking for 24/7 100% uptime

Other Thoughts: I'd like to clear up the memory issue, the memory controller in integrated in th processes . memory compatibility has nothing to do with the motherboard manufacturer. if your having a memory problem then your memory is not compatible with your processor. i using specified Kingston memory with all my servers and have yet to come into any issues . this is a server/workstation main board , don't expect to over clock like a gaming main board . though it be nice. thats not what its use is intended for . servers/workstations are for heavy load 24/7 run time with stability . my servers need to be running with out a worry of it crashing 24/7 . believe me when i tell you even the best (or the money i waisted) the best gaming boards even if it takes months, they will eventually freeze up and need a reboot and have for me. so far my asus's servers have 100% uptime running Linux and this micro server going on 6 months now with out a reboot . this is with a corrective manual set memory SPD

5 out of 5 eggslove this board

Pros: compleatly stable in win7 64bit , fast . buying another

Cons: had to rma a board for voltage problems

Other Thoughts: paired with xeon and 8 gigs 1366 ecc reg "Intel certified" Kingston memory . this mini board ran better then my ASUS P7F-E server with same specs aside from the graphic . i did take the xeon and the memory out of the P7F-E and install it in this board . it all ran faster in this board and stable is its middle name .
this setup i did not have one problem installing win 7 64bit or linux .
Xeon X3470
8 gigs 4 sticks of Kingston 1366 ecc reg memory "Intel certified"
ocz 60gb ssd
xfx 6870 win7 / geforce gtx7900 linux
win 7 64bit
when i purchased this motherboard, newegg had it as an old listing no longer available . hmmm so looking to purchase again yes a second board i find its now available .i spent 8 buck :(.

5 out of 5 eggsgreat board

Pros: Small size for a server board. Good features for a server board. The SATA controller supports hot swaps. The PCI-E x16 slot is 2.0 compliant. High quality components.

Cons: Does not include built in sound or come with a sound addon card like the P7F-M WS. Do not confuse the two. The server board has an a few features not found on the WS board including built in graphics and a dedicated admin control port (which requires the ASUS management module to activate).

Other Thoughts: It should be noted, the board will only use x8 memory, but seems to react well to that I tried. I went with 4gig Mushkin R-DIMMS x8 memory, 4 ranked ...... proline part number 991800. It will runs the memory at 1333Mhz without any issues even though the spec for 2 channels should drop it to 1066.

5 out of 5 eggsRuns 4gb sticks perfectly

Pros: Rated for all the intel 1156 chips, including Xenons and ECC ram.
Running a production VMware server with 16gb of Kingston quad rank ECC ram with this mobo. (N82E16820139024 -KVR1066D3Q8R7S/4G)
This mobo also has intel ethernet on-board, which is better supported than most.

Cons: "high" tech level people who blame a great product for FAIL because they didn't read the ram support list.

Other Thoughts: when you load out a board with much ram you have to pay attention to the manuf. support documents.
If you are just building a desktop with 4gig you can slap any old junk in the slots. It doesnt even have to be the same brand or timings most of the time.
Because this is true for low-mid ram machines, many people wrongly assume that you can just fill the slots with anything that fits. Most motherboards are only rated for one specific model # of 4gig ram modules.

1 out of 5 eggsSame problem with 4 GB sticks

Pros: None so far.....

Cons: 4 GB sticks won't work in P7F-E either...

Other Thoughts: I purchased a P7F-E from Newegg...4 sticks of 4 GB Kingston KVR1333D3D4R9Sk2...did not work no video..
put some 1 GB sticks in and it worked fine. Trying a new bios on Friday...
