5 out of 5 eggsVery nice board

Pros: Achieved post on first install. Fast motherboard with Patriot Viper II Sector 7 Edition 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2000 (PC3 16000) Desktop Memory Model PV736G2000ELK62372084. The design of the heat dissipation devices on the board make a big difference especially when OC'ing

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Easy to install. Advise you download manual from Asus first, easier to read than the printed one. Runs fast. Boot disk Crucial RealSSD C300 CTFDDAC128MAG-1G1 2.5" 128GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)62372084.

5 out of 5 eggsLinux friendly

Pros: Very Linux friendly. I've been rocking Ubuntu 10.04 64 bit on this with an i7-930 and 12GB of RAM for months now with absolutely no hitches. I use this system as a professional workstation, and while it may not have the expansion of a server board, I find it to be quite capable for my needs which include a lot of virtualization and a bit of software development.

Cons: No complaints.

4 out of 5 eggsVery nice but...

Pros: -Nice quality build
-Nice feature
-USB 3.0 and SATA 3.0
-Fast boot

Cons: See other thoughts

Other Thoughts: I had some problems during the boot, sometime the motherboard had some difficulties to post at boot and the only solution I found is to unplug the battery while my power supply was off to reset the CMOS (the CMOS reset button at back is limited).

I finally figured the BIOS doesn't detect correctly my Corsair XMS3 frequency (1333) (3 x 2 GB). The BIOS set the wrong timing and the wrong frequency (1080 and 7-7-7-20 I think).

So, I you're like me, you may want to plug only one memory (on 3) and manually configure the timing and voltage or you can also read the manual and chose one kit from the Quality vendor list (I expect it works natively)).

Check also your manual to install correctly your memory (there are many configurations...)

It solved my problem and now I'm am a happy customer

Hope it helps you!

5 out of 5 eggsNOTT your mothers motherboard

Pros: Very nice motherboard, A lot of overclocking options, updated to new bios no problem. I love all the features this thing has. 6GB of 1600mhz ram worked first boot, The express gate is awesome, basically surfing the web for email etc as soon as you turn on your computer!

Cons: - Could use a few more sata plugins

- One pin was bent, (was in another review of this motherboard), had to bend it into position with a knife and a steady hand before installing my cpu.

- It can get annoying, added boot time as it loads sata III devices with marvel controller.

- Asus software is garbage, I scrapped the Asus graphic card software and the fan controller software for this motherboard is a little buggy, I cannot access fan fan controller program in asus suite without having to VERY QUICKLY click the fan button before it grays (turns unclickable) software is the worst!

Other Thoughts: This is a pretty nice motherboard! I'm not sure if 3gpu's will all run at x16, you would think you can when paying 300$+ for a motherboard.

4 out of 5 eggssolid board

Pros: auto update program for bios, easy OC utility, sata 6gbs, usb 3, pci-e 16 x2, sata spots are turned outward so gfx cards dont sit on top of the cords, triple channel ram, fits i7 cpu, sli, turbo boost, etc. took 16gb of ocz reaper ram without a hitch. didnt have to touch bios, booted right up.

Cons: coming from a previous owner asus delux boards, i'm a lil disappointed on what was NOT included. no remote, no built in wifi/ap, no ide or floppy (boot discs?), ac97/hdaudio isnt the same connector as previous versions, random placement of fan pins, pci cards are right under pci-e video card slots (are there even any single din pci cards left? why are we still designing mobos like this?)

Other Thoughts: sweet light blue chrome color.

currently newegg only offers about 15 or so asus boards that support this socket, this and a $350 board are the only ones that really do it all and are designed well. some of the other boards have weird pci-e placement (7 of them on top of eachother with no space?) lack of hyper-threading or turboboost support, no usb 3.0, etc. this is easily the best choice comparing them all side by side.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Board

Pros: Great Options, Fast BIOS Post. Express Gate works Great. Works with SLI GTX460x2

Cons: Had to call ASUS tech support because couldnt figure out why the RAID setup utility would't come up. Asus tech told me that this board supports RAIDs only on SATAII Ports, NOT ON THE 6GB/s Ports. NewEgg should have listed that. Had to switch to SATA II. What a waste of 2 6GB/s Hard Drives.

Other Thoughts: IF you're gonna run RAID on the 6GB/s ports buy the ASUS P6X58D-E Model Board.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Board, Bad Layout

Pros: The board itself is great, it is stable, it runs well and I have had no issues using my two 6GB/S hard drives. It also posts really fast with the right ram installed.

Cons: The Layout for the PCI & PCIe slots is terrible. I have two XFX 4870x2 cards but can only use one because they put the PCI slots in between the PCIe slots and therefore if I want to use crossfire, I have to take out my sound card. You can't use the third PCIe slot either because ASUS put most of the case connections for USB right underneath that slot. I am really upset about that limitation because the onboard sound card is terrible as well.

Other Thoughts: I am not sure why ASUS would put USB 3.0 on this board and not put PCIeX16 2.1 on here, it just makes sense that they would

4 out of 5 eggsSimple, powerful, but bewars

Pros: Great board in terms of features. USB 3.0, SATA III, and others make it worth the premium price. BIOS is well done with plenty of options. Express Gate is WELL worth it. Board is laid out well.

Cons: My first board A1 DIMM slot failed within one hour of initial power up. Newegg was awesome to replace quickly. The "Q-Shield" makes the board difficult to install in an ATCS 840 at least.

Other Thoughts: I have seen others have the same DIMM problem as me. Hopefully ASUS will work this out. Otherwise, an awesome board. Don't know why you would spend $100 more for a RAMPAGE III when this has it all.

1 out of 5 eggsIssues from early on... dying faster and faster.

Pros: It's a great motherboard, feature-wise. Wonderful spec set, for what it's worth, and my XMP DDR3-2000 RAM worked flawlessly. Also, very nice-looking and fun to hook up. Never used it with anything too fancy -- SATA3.0/6Gbps, USB3.0, or any overclocking -- and never pushed it to gaming limits, so I can't say how it performs there. I used it for software development and virtualization.

Cons: It breaks. A little bit after building the system in December, it started having a problem when I powered it on; normally, when you power it on, the fans all go on high for a second or two and then they switch to speed control and boot continues. However, sometimes the fans would stay on high, and I wouldn't get to POST.

Now, that's happening just about every time I turn on my computer. I have to restart it multiple times to get to POST. Resume from sleep no longer works, either, with the same problem.

Worst part? The service. Asus' site says it has a 3-year warranty, but that I should check with my reseller for repairs/returns. Newegg says I can't get a replacement after 30 days. What am I supposed to do? Ouch. Thanks a lot, guys.

Oh, and I may have thrown out some of the plastic bags from the original box. According to Newegg policy, that means I might not have been eligible for RMA anyways?

Other Thoughts: I can't decide if I would even want a replacement, of if I'd want my money back / a different motherboard instead... because I don't know if this issue is isolated.
