1 out of 5 eggsBuy DIFFERENT BRAND !

Pros: It works, sometimes.
Nice sata headers layout.
Has onboard video, if you are an internet user only.
Make sure you SAVE all of your current work EVERYTIME BEFORE using the front USB port !!!!!!!!!!

Cons: I don't even know where to start.
1. Freezez your whole system every time you use any of the front connections, either the USB or the Audio !
2. Horrible static noise when windows is shutting down.
3. Forget using anything more than 1333mhz ram. Also if you are using all 4 ram slots one of the stics will be mounted almost sideways because it is going to lean on the CPU Fan.
4. Forget about any overclocking.
5. Took over 2 hours of rebootings to post for the first time.

Other Thoughts: Imagine how frustrated I am with ASUS to come back after over 3 years to express my disappointment with this "high end board". For $150 there shouldn't be any major design flaws like this board has !!! I've been using ASUS boards on all of mine and friends builds. Well since I got this board I've been using 3 different brands with not a single issue whatsoever !!! I will never use ASUS board to any of my customers, friends, family, and most important my builds anymore.

2 out of 5 eggsVery problematic board, both of them

Pros: Great layout of board. Very user friendly bios and labeling of all board outlets.

Cons: I have had this model since October 2010. First board I had to send back within the first six months and got a refurbished board in return. The second board has had some major issues over its life. During the first year I updated the bios and took out the updated bios a couple of different times. Finally over the past eight months, because nobody seems to want to help when there is a problem, I have reinstalled all software as told by Microsoft help, updated the bios again (didn't help again) got different memory and purchased a different hard drive. STILL THE SAME PROBLEM! Computer goes into sleep mode and the only way to wake it up is to shut the machine off completely and start it up again. I called ASUS two months after the warranty ran out and they could do nothing for me. Although having done online chatting, blogs, forums and other remedies first before wanting to send the board back as this is our main computer in our household, I WAITED...BIG MISTAKE!!! If I would have just requested a new board right away I might have saved myself all the agony and stress. Now I am out of a motherboard and really frustrated with ASUS.

5 out of 5 eggsThis board was built for the future!!

Pros: This thing can hold current gen cpu. I mean what more could you want from a board I purchased in 2010. For those who had problems I'm certain the problems where caused by putting parts together that didnt belong together not this board. This thing has been more than test at multi instance gaming and streaming all at once. It is just unstobable and I will never buy anything other than an ASUS motherboard ever again. My trust in this motherboard has also lead me to buy many more products of theirs. I hope they read this so they know that what they where doing when they made this and other products I own is what they should keep doing forever

Cons: Nothing other than I probably will never make a better board purchase in my life.

Other Thoughts: Over all ASUS has just been reliable in all computer components I have purchased for myself and others and I would recomend their parts to anyone. If your unsure on brands I was to and now I have my pick after much experience with other companies out there.

1 out of 5 eggsHorrible motherboard

Pros: It looks nice

Cons: I've had this thing for a while and since I've been new to building this thing has taught me a lot. I've been experiencing BSOD's, random reboots, computer won't come out of sleep with this thing. After reading other reviews I've realized that I have the same problem with this board as everyone else. I frequently crash and soon when rebooting it says "NEW CPU INSTALLED!" and I have to go into bios and save settings again. This thing has been nothing but a nightmare for a 2nd time builder and I will NOT EVER buy another Asus board again.

Other Thoughts: I bought this board for 140$ thinking I was really buying a high end quality product but apparently this board is notoriously flawed especially when it comes to memory. I'm going to finally try and replace it tomorrow and if they can't do anything I will never buy anything with the name Asus ever again.

Manufacturer Response:

2 out of 5 eggsI had a lot of faith in ASUS ...

Pros: It turns on.

Cons: This motherboard absolutely hates Thuban processors. The moment you attempt to overclock, it spits out a "New CPU Installed" error and resets your BIOS to default non-overclocked settings.

A cursory search on Google will show you that the "New CPU Installed" error is a very common error found in ASUS motherboards. Initially, people believed the problem was related to faulty BIOS chips, but even after using a new BIOS chip, the problem would remain. The real problem seems to come from a design flaw in the socket that applies incorrect pressure on the CPU die and forces the motherboard to reset the BIOS at every boot. How was this deduced? Because many have reported that Thuban processors don't display these problems on other motherboards - like Gigabyte. Coincidentally enough, Gigabyte motherboards have a flatter socket design which removes the pressure on the CPU.

It's frustrating. I overpaid for a 1090T for the very specific reason of overclocking. But I can't even edit my memory timings to a measly 1600mhz (stock speeds for DDR3) without my BIOS resetting.

I bought this about 3 years ago (10/18/2010), so it's obviously too late to RMA it. And even if I did, I'd probably be just sent another flawed AM3+ motherboard with the same exact problem (since it's a design flaw). I'm just going to live with it and wait for my next CPU upgrade (in maybe 3 years). At that point, I will definitely do more research before I buy another ASUS motherboard. They don't seem to be "slam dunks" anymore.

1 out of 5 eggsMeh

Pros: Decent board, OC's well enough, easy core unlocking (now)

Cons: I had problems with my initial ASUS board within the first few weeks and ending up going with this as it's replacement as it appeared to be higher quality. As far as stability goes it has been more or less OK, getting my 1600 RAM to run at 1600 and not 1333 was a huge pain. Recently I gave my case a thorough cleaning and when attempting to unseat the RAM modules from their slots the upper latches which hold them in place snapped off when I tried to release them. The RAM is clearly not seated properly now as I'm getting random crashing and bsod's which were never present before this. To top it off, I went to move the RAM to the other two open slots, and both of those latches snapped off when I went pressed them to disengage the latching.

If you have ever had to deal with ASUS support you know where this is going... Their once above average support has turned to utter trash. It took them over a week to get me a small update on an **ADVANCE** RMA, and any attempt to retrieve information returned a different response from every single rep I talked to, and I went though no less than seven of them. After the initial ASUS board, a Nexus 7 tablet which had screen defects after less than a month, and now the problems I'm encountering with this board and ASUS support it's pretty much solidified that I will never again purchase an ASUS product.

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: It started out great. It ran great for about a year.

Cons: I began getting random "New CPU Installed" errors upon every boot and it would randomly crash and freeze across multiple operating systems. The instruction manual is also horrible and the customer support is bad.

Other Thoughts: I'm going to buy a different brand next time.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We're sorry to hear about your experience with the motherboard.

The "New CPU Installed" message is normal in a new installation. However, if it appears after every boot even after entering BIOS, and saving BIOS setting. It could be that either the Clear CMOS jumper is not in positions 1 and 2 (please check) or that the CMOS battery has failed (the system clock may also reset). If it's the latter, a replacement battery should be installed, which should solve the issue. Regarding the freezing, since it occurs not just on one OS, try to load BIOS defaults. Otherwise, the BIOS chip may be corrupted. We suggest RMA the motherboard so that our technicians can verify the integrity of the BIOS chip and the issue with the boot message. To RMA the motherboard, please use the RMA submittal form at: http://vip.asus.com/eservice/usa_rmaserv.aspx or call us at 1-812-282-2787.Thank you.
