5 out of 5 eggsFantastic motherboard 2 years later

Pros: The write up was clear about the lack of simultaneous Sata 6gbps and USB 3.0 and the tradeoff was the x16 reduced to x8, and also lower cost.

Plenty of Expansion slots

Expansion slots very intelligently spaced

Two Sata 6g ports.

Rock solid ASUS reliability

Cons: Not enough PWM fan pin connectors on board, but molex works fine with silent fans, so whatever.

Other Thoughts: Got this board, because I wanted to build a low-midrange system for less money which could later be upgraded to mid-high range, and this board was invaluable for that process.

This fits a 2 slot ASUS DC graphics card, an ASUS Xonar DG sound card, and a usb3.0 pci card. That's about all the cards I will probably ever need.

Running a graphics card at pci x8 really will not make a difference unless you've got an EXTREMELY high end card. Probably not the case if you're using such a low-mid range board. I don't get why people complain.

A couple years after my comp was built I threw a USB 3.0 PCI card in this and switched the board to Sata 6g, for use with a Sandisk SSD cache. I've got the best of both worlds now, and have saved lots of money and hassle! It's been a great first build for me.

Thank you, ASUS! Would buy again.

4 out of 5 eggsgreat

Pros: Great features, nice placement. Easy to setup. Still going strong after 1 year.

Cons: No usb 3.0 for front usb support. I had to buy a usb 3.0 front adapter for pci-e.

4 out of 5 eggsFast Easy to Read

Pros: runs as expected fast with 8gb DDR3 ram / added nvidia GTS250 1Gb v-ram/added Raptor 10,000 rpm hard drive/ I use extra cooling fans for hard drives and extra system fan/ heat is the enemy of electronics / board is easy to read.
Buying custom No OS system was scary All went perfectly Win7 64 bit

Cons: purchased OEM in case w 650 watt P/S no Install DVD/ no manual / AUX Fan shows 85C temp checking tech sites I'm told this is an error I sure would like a better explanation all other temps are AOK

Other Thoughts: Saved a bundle buying a No OS sys Intel I5 3.2ghz Turbo CPU/ Asus MB/ P/S /Harddrive/Memory/MB heat sinks/ Case& keyboard. I saved so much I was able to Purchase a LCD Acer Monitor for my wife! I added Razer-Nostromo N52 Speed Pad/ Thrusmaster Flightstick-X HOTAS/ Razer DeathAdder game mouse, all installed like warm butter.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great!

Pros: Very stable, works as advertised.

Cons: Doesn't work with Bose Soundlink USB transmitter

Other Thoughts: Replaced my MB after nearby lightning strike took out the USB ports on old Intel MB. Replacement with ASUS P7P55-E LX was very simple it booted up with no problems. Did not encounter RAM issues stated in other reviews even through my Corsair Dominator RAM (two different mods) were not listed on the MB RAM Compatibility list.

2 out of 5 eggsASUS P7P55D-E LX

Pros: Fast, 12 USB, 8 SATA, lots of connections

Cons: Not Reliable

Other Thoughts: Not Reliable, so far have RMA'd 3 times. The problem is the 6GB SATA ports. The Marvell drivers from ASUS are a year and a half old and they will not update them. I found a better driver but the problem is the controller on the board, in my opinion. Their support is questionable at best!

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Lots to like ! Tons of Sata, pci and usb connections, well laid out no problem install. Super fast with SSD in a 6g sata connector. Plenty of features like great fan control, up to 16g Ram at high frequencies, overclocking, great audio section, love the board !

Cons: Can't think of one, really.

5 out of 5 eggsGood MB for the money

Pros: You will have a hard time finding a better board for the money. Granted, this is a bit older model but hey, works fine with my i5-760. I have paired it with ATi Radeon 5870 2 Gb card and I'm running a bunch of games on it without a single problem. Yeah, it isn't state-of-the-art MB, but hey, if you're on the budget it is a good solution.

Cons: Can't use new Sandy Bridge CPUs with it :(

Other Thoughts: If you're on the budget, this MB is a way to go. Paired with i5 processor and ATi 6870 it will give you a decent gaming rig.

1 out of 5 eggsBad Service

Pros: The motherboard works when it isn't completely defective.
Looks cool
SATA 6.0

Cons: I have to highly recommend against ASUS, because of their service.

I've had to RMA twice within a year. The first time it took a month, and now I'm on the second RMA it's been 25 days and supposedly they don't have the part to fix it, the part's not on the way, they won't send me one off the shelf, and they run-around on the phone. The status is listed as "repair finished" for 10 days, even though it's apparently not.

The motherboard is good if it's not defective, but mine's been defective twice in a year.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Sorry to hear about the issues. Please contact us at stating all parts used, configuration details and RMA case numbers, and we will look into this for you.

3 out of 5 eggsnice board, need to be careful when installing

Pros: The board was easy to install in the case and once I got everything installed correctly it is working like a charm

Cons: The tool-less features can easily screw up POSTing. Be very careful to have the RAM fully installed as there is no clip on one side.

Other Thoughts: Overall it's a good board once all components are secure.
