3 out of 5 eggsyet another abandon mb

Pros: reliable/stable

Cons: sata 3 ssd performance is terrible with intel 520 ssd (550MB/s Intel spec -- 365MB/s seq rd, 95MB/s seq wr: AS SSD Benchmark). and equally frustrating is it's another abandon motherboard with NO driver updates. I guess you're just suppose to just throw them away and buy a new one after about 18 months. I purchased this when the board was fairly new on the market and yet asus walked away from it almost immediately. it's a lot of work to build a new system and migrate user profiles/data (neither mb mfr, drive mfr nor microsoft makes this easy). not to mention replacing an entire system is expensive.

4 out of 5 eggsImpressed so far

Pros: Full 16x + 16x Crossfire / SLI support via NF200
SATA 6gb/s
USB 3.0
Intel 3450 chipset
PLX Bridge is a much cleaner method of bridging controllers

Cons: NO long Crossfire cable is included!!!! This will set you back $12-$20 on the auction sites alone. You MUST have the LONGER Crossfire cable in order to use the 16x + 16x PCI-e slots.

2nd Crossfire card will absolutely block the the SATA 6gb controller on the motherboard. Poor placement.

Only 16GB memory supported - not a big deal for most but why the 6 memory slots?

Other Thoughts: This is the only 1156 socket motherboard I found with all the latest features such as USB 3.0, Sata 6gb/s controller, NF200, etc. The PLX Bridge is just an added bonus! Really disappointed in the fact they only included a long sli cable and no crossfire cable. Also the fact that you will have to run one card if you wish to use the SATA 6gb/s slots. By the time I upgrade to sata 3 I will most likely be running a single, faster card solution anyhow.

If you're running crossfire make sure you order the LONG crossfire bridge cable BEFORE you by the board!

Other then that I really love this board so far. Performance has been absolutely outstanding and responsive. There are so many additional features with this board that I will not even use them all such as the DVI/VGA port.

1 out of 5 eggsBIOS HAS A PROBLEM WITH SSD DRIVES

Pros: ASUS P7F7 motherboard is supposed to be one of the better boards, but can't get BIOS to deliver the handshake between the processor and SSD drive.

Cons: ASUS P7F7-E motherboard has a BIOS problem in that it does not provide communications with the processor and solid state drive (SSD). SSD is the only drive in the box. ASUS has ignored inquiries on this issue. Reported by Velocity Micro (Richmond VA) 2/11/2011. I hope ASUS responds as I would like to know how to resolve.

Other Thoughts: Why ASUS ignores companies in USA is just not right. Customers desire good interactive communications with manufacturers.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We apologize for the issue that you are experiencing with this workstation motherboard. I've created a case number 1214805 for you regarding this issue. Please contact us at 812-282-2787 and provide the case number above so that we can get more details about the issue and your system configuration as well as help you to resolve the issue.

1 out of 5 eggsBad Board Bad Customer Service

Pros: Nice options if motherboard worked.

Cons: Just got the run-a-around from Asus legendary and awful customer service department. Called and emailed the information given below and my issues were not resolved.

http://vip.asus.com/eservice/usa_rmaserv.aspx or 812-282-2787 and refer to case number 1076204.

Other Thoughts: Asus just gives you this information;

"http://vip.asus.com/eservice/usa_rmaserv.aspx or 812-282-2787 and refer to case number 1076204"

to make it look like they care about customer service. Believe me, they don't. Asus does NOT honor it's own warranty.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We apologize for the issues you are having getting support for this motherboard. If you have questions about the motherboard, we have a dedicated website for requesting technical support which is http://vip.asus.com/eservice/techserv.aspx. Please provide your detailed system configuration and particular issue when submitting a ticket.

Sincerely,

ASUS Support Team

5 out of 5 eggsMOBO COME HOME

Pros: The design of this motherboard is great!!I liked the space between the PCI E 2.0 lanes. BIOS wasnt too tricky...See other thoughts.Mobo-this one<>CPU-i7 870 OC@3.8gHz<>Case-Silverstone Raven RV02<>GPU-Asus ENG GTX 470x3<>ETC.......................

Cons: Not this motherboard's problem but it is not available.....why?Please get a few in.Me and the guy below me would purchase 1.

Other Thoughts: I have been looking over the specs of this board long before I got 1 for a friend for Christmas(actually bought it in Nov).New Egg has been out for some time so I bought from somewhere else(I know I am shamed for doing so)because I could not wait any longer. The best thing that I enjoyed about this board was how easy it was to set up and install all the components.None of the components were in the way of one another.Even more remarkable was how well the temperatures on the Graphics cards were on 3 Reference Asus GTX 470's.It also did help that the case was a Silverstone RV02.I could see how if we had bought 3 multi fan graphics cards how even better the temps would have been but that is neither here nor there.I guess I could get the Zalman GTX 470 coolers..but for now,we are fine with what we have, and are more than happy because of the flexibility of features from this motherboard.

1 out of 5 eggsAsus P7F7-E mOTHERBOARD

Pros: The very best Motherbord in the world.

Cons: I can not buy this Motherboard from Newegg. They have been "out of stock" forever. When you try and get help from Newegg, nobody there knows anything. Following is an email I recieved from Asus.

Dear Mr. Bryant,

Thank you for contacting ASUS. However unfortunately we would not know what the deal is as to why Newegg cannot provide you a delivery date of the motherboard. Please contact our Presales Department at 1-812-282-2787 option 1 or you can live chat at http://service.asus.com.

5 out of 5 eggsSimply Awesome

Pros: Almost everything.
Three internal USB headers, used for front case ports, rear riser ports, and internal card reader.
Two internal USB ports -thinking of moving the keyboard/mouse transceiver to here to free up an external USB port.
Six SATA-2 ports, plus two more SATA-3 ports.
It's been a while since I bought an Asus board and forgot how fully they include accessories and cables. It was like Christmas early.

Cons: No eSATA ports.
Angled SATA ports are awkward for me, I would rather have them face me so I can see them. However, if you're running massive video cards, having them angled probably makes more room.
No front firewire header. Putting this together for a video/graphics workstation and a firewire port would be handy to have.
Expensive, but packed with so many features this isn't really a con.

Other Thoughts: If you're looking for a foundation for a powerful machine, be sure the specs meet your needs, read the other reviews, then buy this thing.

5 out of 5 eggsASUS P7F7-E WS SuperComputer

Pros: Graphics work(PhotoShop CS4 & 3D Studio Max). It has performed better than my expectations and then some! To appreciate this MB do the research on the chips used all over this MB. It truly is a work of art and worth the investment! The BIOS; wow! It will test your setup and reboot itself a bunch of times; basically testing, breaking and clearing the CMOS returning 3 settings that work and you can store/save! Big O.C.'ing time saver! Some uber geek team went to town on this MB at ASUS and I feel lucky finding it!

My Box:

ASUS P7F7-E WS SuperComputer LGA 1156 Intel 3450 w/ NVIDIA NF200
Intel Core i7-875K Lynnfield 2.93GHz 8MB L3 Cache LGA 1156 95W Quad-Core
2 x G.SKILL ECO Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)
EVGA GeForce GTX 460 (Fermi) 768MB 192-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16
OCZ Z Series Gold OCZZ850M 850W ATX12V 2.3/ EPS12V 2.91 SLI Certified
OCZ Agility 2 OCZSSD3-2AGT90G 3.5" 90GB SATA II MLC-SSD
CORSAIR CWCH50-1 High Performance CPU Cooler

Cons: Asus tech support dodges more questions than Neo does bullets on the Matrix! Be aware that only 2 RAM MFG in ASUS QVL "Officially" support this motherboard (Crucial & Kingston); and only in 1333MHz. However the RAM I purchased F3-12800CL7D-4GBECO was in both ASUS QVL and OM worked flawlessly O.C.'ed at1643MHz @ 1.56v in turbo mode.

Other Thoughts: Supercomputer? It has all the makings of one; even with the modest setup I went with. For instance; an Intel Xeon X3470 or X3480 with 16gigs of RAM and 3 nVidia SLI video cards or an nVidia Quatro of sorts would fit the bill nicely! Sorry.....dreaming of future purchases since this MB is so versatile...NewEgg ROCKS!!! =)~

1 out of 5 eggsdoesnt support 24gb

Pros: good board I guess

Cons: --Having the balls to say "Experience the Fastest Transmission Speed" right on the home page of this board is a little misleading. It only supports 16g of RAM and its the first Mobo that I have seen that has 6 DIMMS and NOT support 24gb. I bought this board SOLELY for the fact that it has 6 DIMMS, because Im building a Hyper-V server (server 2008) and I just want a lot of RAM for the several OS's I plan on putting on it, but I guess I cant do that...

--I had to jump through hoops just to get it to post (different PCIe slots, a million different RAM configurations, unplugging my USB mouse/keyboard). Ive flashed to the newest BIOS and triple checked voltages on my RAM. Posts just fine with 16gb, but not 24gb.

Other Thoughts: --I realize it was my fault for not checking the max RAM but a $200+ board with 6 DIMMS... who would?

--It has an LCD readout (TPM?) that gives you a digital code that tells you whats wrong on a post, similar to a beep code but easier to understand. Its not made by ASUS and nowhere could I find the post code list to find out what was wrong. I had to google it for a while to find it, and most of my codes were not even in the list leaving me with nothing.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We apologize for the issues you were experiencing with the initial set up of the motherboard. The diagnostic POST card is made by the ASUS workstation team and the description of the POST codes can be found in the user manual, Chapter 2: Hardware Information -> Internal Connectors -> Installing G.P. Diagnosis card.

Sincerely,

ASUS Support Team
