3 out of 5 eggswork good for 3 1/2 years

Pros: Installed February 2011 and has been working good until now.

Cons: I think it's starting to die. The USB 2.0's are failing.

Other Thoughts: I wanted a decent PC that would last me awhile. I bought parts little by little at newegg and my son built me a nice desktop. I blamed this problem on my new canon printer at first, spent hours trying to fix it, called it every name in the book, but it's the motherboard's 2.0 usb that was the problem. A yellow error in device manager at composite usb. I switched the canon to a card's usb and it works fine. None of my flash sticks are working either in 2.0. The 3.0's are working--so far. I'm a senior on a budget and didn't feel like building another computer to use so soon. Disappointed in ASUS.

4 out of 5 eggssoftware terrible

Pros: I think the hardware has been outstanding and the setup and ports are nice. It has a ton of USB ports and stays pretty cool. It was a great price for the power and I've had no problems after a 3+ years. The memory button has also solved a few memory recognition problem along the way, nice feature.

Cons: The software is a mess. I had 1 driver cause a blue screen after it got outdated. I have a bios out of date. The update utility doesn't connect.

I wish it had a 3.0 usb on the board to connect internally on towers.

Manufacturer Response:

Good Day yoyo,

I would be happy to assist you in this matter. But first, what kind of issues were you having with the software? I presume you are having issues with AI Suite, correct? When you have the time, please send me an email, including the requested information, and we can figure this out. 3765996.

1 out of 5 eggsASUS SabreTooth X-58

Pros: Excellent board. Was running two BFG GTX 295 in SLI with 12 GB of triple channel memory. After the video cards died installed two Galaxy GTX 470's in SLI. The board has a five year warranty. That was one of the reasons I bought the board. I figured for $200.00 how could I go wrong.

Cons: During the course of 2013 which was only two an a half years of ownership the board the board for some reason shorted out the #1 video card slot and ruined the GTX 470 card. Also a USB module went bad. I called ASUS customer support and explained the problems and told them the board was still under warranty. They said to send it to them and they would fix it free of charge. BULL! After some weeks went by I received the board and with out any explanation they fixed nothing. Apparently ASUS does not stand behind their warranty's and they obviously could care less about their customers!

Other Thoughts: I have owned many ASUS products over the years and in my opinion the engineering it took to build their products is top notch, But that's where it ends. If anything should go wrong with their products they couldn't care less! Their just out too make money, take the customers money and what ever happens to you with their product even if it's under warranty is your problem, not theirs! I will never and I hope who ever reads this take's this seriously ever buy another ASUS product ever again. There's other competitors out there who make just as good a ASUS, but here's the difference they care about their customers and they stand behind their products.

4 out of 5 eggsStill running

Pros: Overclocking is awesome! 5 year warranty

Cons: Only 4 eggs because I don't like how close the PCI-e slots are. If you run sli on this bored the top card runs about 20c higher than the bottom card. I have 8 fans in my full tower and it still runs this hot in sli.

Other Thoughts: still running strong to this day. will soon upgrade to a 4th gen i7. There are a few games that are starting to bog down my 1st gen i7 OCed to 4ghz. The colors are cool but no other pc parts match it. Love the warranty but who really buys a board like this and doesn't upgrade every 2-4 years?

3 out of 5 eggsGreat board! (until you install ssd drives)

Pros: Board has been flawless for a year. Set up and ran raid with ease. Have had no issues with the setup I had.

Cons: Installed 2 different sets of SSD drives, with raid, without raid. Tried both Intel and Marvell controllers.6GB and 3GB ports. I am lucky to pull off half the advertised speeds of either SSD brand I've used. This board is basically worthless when it comes to solid state drives.

5 out of 5 eggsIt is what it is.

Pros: Does it's job, period.

Cons: No legacy connectors, Windows 8 support not really there (but you don't hear me actually complaining about that one to be honest).

Other Thoughts: I bought this to keep my cost down on my last personal build. I haven't had any problems. Windows 8 support not there. It installs drivers, and it seems to run fine on 8, but I had some issues with a couple of games that I didn't have in 7 with the mfg drivers. I probably could have resolved it with 3rd party alts but I prefer 7 over 8 personally. That's my 2 cents.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent, spacious, upgradeable board

Pros: Smorgasbord of internal connectors -- PCI of all verieties, several 3-pin fan connectors, SATA II and III, several USB 2.0 plugs, among others
Resilient -- Has survived a couple of moves with no problems
Spacious -- Fits a Cooler Master Hyper 212+ without impeding access to any of the RAM modules, even when fully populated!
Decently upgradeable -- Aside from the cons mentioned below, I've grown my build from a bare build to one with 2 GPUs, a couple of addon cards, SSDs, aftermarket CPU cooler, and plenty of case fans rather easily

Cons: No internal USB 3.0 slots
No PCI-e 3.0 slots
A little tight for 2 GPUs
Binds you to X58 platform (now basically dead)

Other Thoughts: I'm not letting the cons ding the board; newer standards are purely a matter of its age, but I figure someone looking to upgrade their case or graphics card may like to know.; and most boards don't offer much airflow to multi-GPU configurations, so it's not a problem with this board alone.
The X58 platform is fantastic, but it does mean that you'll need a new board when you want a new processor, which is a bit of a bummer but seems to be the trend for high-end Intel processors anyway.

1 out of 5 eggsDead board

Pros: Worked fine for a year.

Cons: MB died after a year. Power will turn on for a second then turn off. First thought was maybe its the power supply, so I bought a new one. Same issue. I then bought a used Mother Board. The system powers on now.

Other Thoughts: Troubleshooting; Made sure everything was connected, then I reconnected. Then bought a new power supply, then a used MB which fixed the issue.
How can I get my money back?
