5 out of 5 eggsNeeded.

Pros: Works great lots of features supports my SLI graphics.

Cons: No USB 3 header.

Other Thoughts: I bought a cheap PCIe card for the USB 3 header. All is well.

I was in a jam and bought this board due to low cost v high features. Supports my 24 GB RAM and SLI video and my 1st gen core i7.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: very nice board. this is one of the few boards that does ECC and lets you overclock a xeon. it replaced my aging early socket 1366 board to get USB3 and more PCIe slots, and most importantly xeon+ECC support.

oh, did i mention the integrated dual intel NICs are big plus? saves me a slot!

the asus "WS" desktop boards are a nice middle ground between a gamer board (read: OC) and a server board (read: limited BIOS settings).

Cons: no longer available.

1 out of 5 eggsDead after a month

Pros: It is a pretty looking motherboard with enough plugs for the fans.

Cons: It died after a month of use, very frustrating.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We apologize that the motherboard became non-functional after such a short usage.

Do you see a standby LED after connecting the power connector? Do the fans spin at power on?

This motherboard comes with G.P. Diagnosis card that displays a two digit diagnostic code if there is a problem with the motherboard. Please check this code against the code description in the manual. If your case has a system speaker, connect it to the board and listen for beep codes.

1 long beep and 2 short beeps = memory
1 long beep and 3 short beeps = VGA
1 long beep and 4 short beeps = hardware component

Please try your components if possible on another system to verify that they are functional.

If you believe that the motherboard to be a fault, you can RMA the motherboard by filling out the RMA submittal at http://vip.asus.com/eservice/usa_rmaserv.aspx or call 1-812-282-2787.

To continue support, please contact me at cl-benson@asus.com reference #C1037-4678. Include your hardware setup and specs for faster service.

Regards,
Benson

4 out of 5 eggsSeveral nice touches

Pros: It works; with motherboards this is always the first sigh of relief.
For an LGA 1366 $165 (after rebate) is a real deal and this has a lot of workstation features.
Nice overclocking.
5 PCI Ex 2 x 16 slots* is very flexible.
2 Sata 6x and 6 Sata 3 slots - I use them all so this great.
Dual NICS - While this is a corporate feature, I find this very handy for quickly connecting another machine e.g. a laptop or one I'm working on by bridging connections.
Little touches:

I love the quick connect for system panel connections - why doesn't everyone do this?
GP Diagnosis card: plugs into the TPM slot and outputs diagnostics - didn't need it thankfully but pretty cool.

Cons: The built in utilities e.g. for overclocking are not supported for my OS. To be fair that's Win 8 x64 but I suspect it's the same for Win 7 x64 too but I could be wrong. That's why I gave it 4 stars, but I'm also conservative since it's new. I give it's predecessor P6T 4 stars as well. I think that's a good grade.

I really don't like the SATA ports all facing right rather than out; there is probably a good reason but it's a pain. Best workaround is to populate all of them in advance.

Other Thoughts: * performance for slots depends on configuration of course.

You'll notice there is essentially no Mobo Mfctr that gets 5 star ratings...because something will go wrong for someone and when it does they seem to all be miserable. And I suspect a reasonable percentage of failures is end-user related. But the stories are amazing. I've lost all track of how many I've bought and ASUS has been reliable over all. I also am using the ShopRunner feature that provides 2nd day air delivery and especially - free return shipping; that makes me feel like the gamble is lower; I do enough business with Newegg to make it worth the $70 annual fee.

4 out of 5 eggsThis X58 board has some oomph!

Pros: SATA III
USB 3.0
24GB DDR3

I purchased this board after accidentally damaging my old EVGA X58..I was looking to upgrade to SATA III and this board supports it...The X58 boards are a dying breed..Being replaced with the LGA2011 boards...When the price goes down, I will be upgrading to the 2011...

Cons: SATA III Marvell Controller...Yeah, lots of bad reviews..

Other Thoughts: This board overclocks like a champ..Very solid design and runs my i7 920 at 3.9ghz with VERY little voltage changes needed...It OC's a lot better than my old EVGA board (which was the 1st of the X58 generation..so it had some problems)...

The temps run a couple degrees higher than my old board..that is probably due to the lack of a NB fan..but it's not enough to even worry about...

I subtracted an egg for the Shop runner service..They say 2 day shipping, and yes, it was delivered in two days, but this was the 1st time EVER that UPS delivered anything from newegg at the end of the day...It ruined my day and will be cancelling this service..

1 out of 5 eggsMarvell/SSD

Pros: Does the Marvell chipset on this board work with SSD? Early versions of Sata III on the Marvell wouldnt work with them.

Cons: Havent bought it yet.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

The Marvell® 9128 controller/port supports storage devices such as hard drives / SSD that uses SATA interface, but not ATAPI (optical disk drive).

1 out of 5 eggsFreezes on post

Pros: Post card diagnostic

Cons: Freezes on post
I have to pull power plug, press power button. This allows it to boot normally but i loose date and time, the rest of my bios setting remain intact.
3 sticks of Corsair cm3x2g1600c8d tested with memtest 4.20 ok no errors.
usb controller switched from hi speed to full speed no
differance.
I have two crossfire 6950 msi twin frozr. I removed the
lower card so i could install the diagnostic card that
comes with the P6X58-E ws. Same problem freezes on post after memory count. Diagnostic card reports 3c? Nothing in motherboard manual or Asus's website about this code.
Pull power plug, press power button then restart. like
always have to reset time and date the rest of the settings keep.
Use jumper to reset bios same problem.
The board came with the latest bios.
Bios battery voltage is 3.05 Thats not the problem.
Last test--swap my galaxy evo 1250 watt power supply with a pc power and cooling silencer 750.

Other Thoughts: Same problem freezes on post after shutting down (not restarting only shutting down).

Nothing is overclocked everything is at stock speeds.
There are diagnostic lights on the MB none of them stay lit.
Another reviewer on New Eggs site had a simaliar problem.
I guess this board has to go back calling Newegg now.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We apologize for the issue you had with the motherboard.

If you still have the motherboard, please contact me at cl-benson@asus.com reference #C1037-3685 as we would like to receive your motherboard for further testing.

2 out of 5 eggsNice Board, Bad Power on Routine

Pros: I like the layout of the board. I like the dual lan ports. I like the diagnostic module with the fault L.E.D. readout with the power and reset switches. It has two 6gps sata ports, unfortunately the're by Marvell but they work well enough for my purposes. Overall It's a nice board, but..........

Cons: The motherboard Freezes in the middle of Power On Self Test. After pressing the reset and power switches numerous times and the same thing continues to occur, I finally figured out I have to turn of the power supply, turn it back on, press the power on switch, enter bios, reset everything (even when loading the default setup), then reboot. Only then am I able to enter Windows 7. The freezing happens before I am able to enter the bios, by the way. I must do this every time I turn on the computer. I don't want to have to leave it running 24 hours a day to avoid having to go through this routine. I would like to turn on my computer without this inconvenience.

Other Thoughts: I took off one egg for the problem I stated above.

I took off another egg for not being able to overclock this motherboard past 3.1GHz with a Core I7 920. When I tried to overclock past that point the computer froze in P.O.S.T. also. But there was nothing I could do to get into Windows from that point.

I took off another egg for not being able to get my ram to run at it's rated speed of 1600MHz. I tried XMP, D.O.C.P. and to manually set the ram to 1600MHz wouldn't do it. The computer wouldn't get past the P.O.S.T.

I really liked the board and I would have kept it since I used Asus Turbo V EVO as a work around to overclocking once I entered Windows. That's why I gave two eggs instead of one. But having to go through the ritual of turning off then on the power supply, powering on the system, so it would let me into the bios where I had to reset everything including date and time, then reboot to enter windows, was too much of an inconvenience for me. Thus I had to RMA the Boar

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We apologize for the issues you had with the motherboard.

Regarding freezing while in POST, please try clear CMOS. If that does not resolve the issue, update the BIOS to the latest version. The freezing issue is likely caused by incompatible BIOS settings, please make sure that they are set accordingly based on your hardware.

Overclocking is dependent on many factors such as the quality of memory, CPU, cooling, etc, and are not always guaranteed.

You should be able to use XMP 1600 provided that your memory supports the profile. Can you tell me what memory you used?

To continue troubleshooting, please contact me at cl-benson@asus.com reference #C1037-3149.

5 out of 5 eggsVery dependable system

Pros: Have had this for over a year now and have yet to have it freeze once. No blue screens. Rock solid. Have ran Photoshop CS 4 with over 20 gig of used ram with dozens of images. Illustrator, Chrome with 2 dozen windows 5 downloads, MS Excel with a dozen sheets, iTunes playing music and playing Skyrim with 140 mods. No lag, no issues
i7-990X Extreme
24 gig DDR3 2000
Thermaltake Toughpower Grand TPG-1200M
Intel 510 Series (Elm Crest) SSDSC2MH250A2K5 2.5" 250GB SATA III
2 1TB WD HDD
ASUS Xonar Essence STX Virtual 7.1
Gforce GTX580

Cons: The SATA ports are right under the tail end of the vid card. Makes connections there difficult. Use right angle cables makes this a breeze to get past.

Other Thoughts: SSD is a bit small on my system with all the apps so would recommend with the above system to go with a 240 SSD and you would be golden.

2 out of 5 eggsDelayed response

Pros: n/a

Cons: The review that I posted on 7/23/2011 has just now recieved a response from Asus , WOW talk about getting around to commenting on the feedback in a timely manor.

Other Thoughts: The board was RMA'd a long time ago and in fact was then sold because of the lack of features that I had come to expect from Asus. I WAS a loyal Asus fan for a long time and had used all of the Rampage Extreme boards , but now I have switched to another brand and have had good sucess.
I don't like the idea of getting a refurbished board back for a new board that I had purchased because it was defective. If a board was purchased brand new and is defective then it should be replaced with a new board and not a refurb. Sadly Asus is not alone in doing this.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Even though the review you posted was from a long time ago, we felt it merited a response because we were not sure if you had resolved the issue or not with the motherboard, and we wanted to make sure you get the support you needed, despite arriving late. We now have a dedicate team at Asus that monitors Newegg reviews in case customers such as yourself have problems with motherboards and other products.

You are important to us at Asus and we appreciate your support through the years.

If you have any questions or concerns about motherboards, please don't hesitate to contact me at cl-benson@asus.com.

Benson
