5 out of 5 eggsASUS Crosshair V Formula

Pros: Very nice looking board, easy to install and setup. Always had a great experience with ASUS products. Love the Overclocking setup on this, though I haven't needed it with what I use this computer for.

Cons: After about 3 years with this MB, it has developed a issue loosing its BIOS settings, always needing to be reset. Most people would say you got 3 years out of it, but my older ASUS computer that is over 7 years old is still working like the day I built it. We will see what ASUS Tech Support says, since this is just 2 months out of warranty.

Other Thoughts: I've built over 25 computers over the last 15 years, and was always using MSI components till I had a 6 month old MB have a Southbridge fan fail. I tried ASUS and haven't looked back. Love the looks, love how easy they are to setup, and for the most part, always reliable.

5 out of 5 eggsI Love This Board

Pros: I bought this board for my first big custom gaming rig back in April 2012, and it has preformed absolutely perfectly for these 3 years. It has never caused an issue even considering the computer runs almost 24/7.

It has enough room to easily accommodates both the Coolermaster V8 CPU cooler, and the rather large heat-sinks on the Corsair Vengeance memory.

The board is absolutely beautiful to look at.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: This will be mounted on a plaque as a piece of art when the time comes that i need an upgrade (way in the future)

I buy ASUS whenever possible, I swear by them as a company and I've never had a part I was unhappy with.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Board

Pros: This board not only kicks it for gaming but it kicks it just looking at it. Really nice looking and works great on the gaming. Has all the features that most anyone would need and some that you don't really need but nice to have just in case. Also has a lot of brag feature.

Cons: Not much here for cons. Maybe when this board acts up it can be a big pain to straighten out. But all boards I have had act up some. I would buy this again.

Other Thoughts: I had had a lot of fun with the CrossHair V. It has performed very well for me and I have learned a lot. This was my first gaming board and I am happy with it.

1 out of 5 eggsDisapointed

Pros: sexy on paper

Cons: sada chipset failed after 2 years

Other Thoughts: do your research and look at the feedback of others, when i bought this it was new and i took the chance but now reading what others have said and the problems they had i wish i never bought it. The system went together nice and had little issues till a year later. the sada drives started to act flaky so i replaced them but the problem never really went away. complete sada chipset failed 2 years after bought

1 out of 5 eggsWorst customer service in the industry!

Pros: Worked well and was as fast as advertised. I did have to manually increase the speed of my RAM to 1600, the motherboard would only recognize it as 1333 although this may have been some type of compatibility issue and not a direct fault of the MB.

Cons: The board died after about eight months. I am an electronics technician so I have had plenty of situations with dead boards, sometimes it just happens and it was not a big deal; I was willing to let them handle it without becoming irate. I went about a month without my computer and then finally got my MB back. This is where the problems started. Now I will own my part of this, in the RMA instructions it told me not to send back any accessories, I missed this part and I thought I was supposed to send back everything. BAD IDEA, when I received the MB back all I got was the MB. None of my installation accessories (I/O shield, screws, documentation). As I said it was my fault for sending in the accessories but when the company received it they did not alert me to my mistake and inform me of my need to pay them for return shipping which I would have gladly done. Instead some person opened up my stuff, probably called me an idiot and then laughed while he threw away everything. I was not informed of any of this so now I have spent another month going back and forth with people who do not care to fix my problem, I faxed them all the paperwork about two weeks ago and when I talked to them yesterday they say that it is still in processing. There is no proactivity on the part of the company and at this point I can tell the customer service people just want me to go away. If you buy from ASUS you should be aware that they do not care about you after they make the sale and if you scour the internet you will find I am not the only one with these types of issues.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

I am sorry that you are having issues with the motherboard. At your earliest convenience, please contact me through email, and we can discuss this case further. Within the email, please include the serial number of the motherboard and your reference number (3583444).

3 out of 5 eggsOkay board but nothing like you would expect

Pros: nice interface, looks nice, other than some issues in bios can overclock easily with this board

Cons: bios is very clunky, sata connectors are not organized well, for crossfire/sli and cable management in mind. USB 3.0 doesn't always work and can cause some boot issues if you leave a usb device plugged in.

Other Thoughts: It not a bad board, just was not worth the price

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Board! Slight Complications!

Pros: This board is a powerhouse! Not does it support nearly every major stick of ram you would want to throw in it, but, it is an overclocking genius! Overclocking with this board is like putting training wheels on a custom chopper, fool proof! On top of that, the board is very cosmetically appealing! It has a black-widow-like design with a balanced mixture of black and red coating on the heatsinks and board. That is not all! The board has an X-Fi 2 soundcard built right into it and the onboard sound is great!

Cons: Upon first receiving the board I had major difficulties getting the board to post. The bios on the board was not up to date and the board did not support my CPU with the bios that the board came shipped with. I set up my entire system before initially turning on the rig and was unsuccessful in posting the board for 3 days. In order to get the board to post I had to unplug everything I had plugged into the board except the bare essentials... By the time I was able to get the board to post I had only the keyboard and a single ram stick plugged in + a pci video card. After I got the board to post I was able to update the bios using a flash drive and now my board runs great! Newbies beware, the troubleshooting on a board like this is extensive and if you run into complications you may find yourself overwhelmed with issues that you don't know how to troubleshoot. The plug and play ability on this board is weak and most things need to be manually set in order to gain maximum potential out of this board. I do not recommend this board for inexperienced computer techs.

Other Thoughts: I paired this board with an AMD FX 8350 (OC@4.5Ghz) with hyper 212+ sits at 35c idle and 40c during heavy load. My rig is designed for broadcasting video games over the internet on twitch.tv/starboundhero. Livecasting takes an incredible amount of resources and this board has been handled everything I have thrown at it with ease!
