ASUS P8Z68 Deluxe, your dream motherboard, offers you a great platform to build your power house with the second generation Intel Core CPUs and releases the full potential of your system. It utilizes the new generation Dual Intelligent Processors 2 - EPU (Energy Processing Unit) and TPU (TurboV Processing Unit), coupled with DIGI+ VRM, to precisely, dynamically and intelligently adjust power supply to achieve optimized performance, extreme system stability and greater power efficiency. The brand new Smart Response technology speeds up data loading by caching your frequently accessed data using an installed SSD, bringing your SSD-like performance and huge capacity of HDD at an affordable price point. The LucidLogix Virtu technology offers you flexibility to switch between IGP and discrete graphics card based on load level, helping achieve a perfect balance between power consumption and noise level.

An array of latest, nice features is included to help you make the most and best out of your system, including EFI BIOS for easy, user-friendly setup, USB 3.0 and SATA 6Gbps for lightning fast data transfers, Bluetooth technology for enhanced connectivity, and AI Suite II for one-stop access to innovative ASUS features. Best of all, the Quad-GPU SLI and Quad-GPU CrossFireX support multiplies graphics performance to deliver the best possible game experience for hardcore gamers.

  • newegg DIGI+ VRM ASUS DIGI+ VRM is an innovative, industry-leading technology that fully integrates Intel VRD12 specifications on a native level, greatly enhancing power to go far beyond the limits of analog designs. ASUS DIGI+ VRM acts as a digital controller to perfectly match digital power signal (SVID) requests from the CPU, eliminating digital-to-analog conversion lag. The exclusive dual driver and MOS design doubles the heat dissipation area with expanded cooling surfaces for improved thermal performance. Spacing components out over a wider area speeds up cooling to enhance reliability and stability. The same exclusive dual driver and MOS design also provides twice the CPU power supply with two complete power stages. This results in far greater phase load tolerances, so the CPU never has to wait for power to arrive, increasing performance and overclocking potential.
  • newegg TPU & EPU The TPU chip offers precise voltage control and advanced monitoring through Auto Tuning and TurboV functions. Auto Tuning offers a user friendly way to automatically optimize the system for fast, yet stable clock speeds, while TurboV enables unlimited freedom to adjust CPU frequencies and ratios for optimized performance in diverse situations. The EPU chip provides a real-time, dynamic power saving by automatically detecting current PC loadings and intelligently moderating power consumption. This also reduces fan noise and extends component longevity!
  • newegg Intel Smart Response Technology Faster Access, Bigger Storage Intel Smart Response Technology boosts overall system performance. It uses an installed fast SSD (min 18.6GB available) as a cache for frequently accessed operations, speeding up hard drive/main memory interaction. Key benefits are expedited hard drive speeds, reduced load and wait times and maximized storage utilization. Power consumption also goes down by reducing unnecessary hard drive spin, an important part of Green ASUS eco-friendly computing.
  • newegg LucidLogix Virtu LucidLogix Virtu is designed for the Intel Sandy Bridge platform's powerful integrated graphics. Its GPU virtualization dynamically assigns tasks to the best available graphics resources based on power, performance and system load on Windows 7 based PCs. It allows users to fully utilize the unique capabilities of advanced Sandy Bridge multimedia features alongside the high end 3D rendering performance provided by installed graphics cards. When no discrete graphics are needed, the graphics card is put in idle mode to lower utilization, heat, fan speed and power draw down to near zero, making the system more environmentally-friendly. For users with diverse needs, LucidLogix Virtu GPU virtualization provides great flexibility and efficiency.
  • newegg UEFI BIOS ASUS UEFI BIOS offers a user-friendly interface that goes beyond traditional keyboard-only BIOS controls to enable more flexible and convenient mouse input. Users can easily navigate the UEFI BIOS with the smoothness of their operating system. Quick and simple overclocking and setup sharing is facilitated by the F12 hotkey BIOS snapshot feature. The exclusive EZ Mode displays frequently-accessed setup info, while the Advanced Mode is for experienced performance enthusiasts that demand far more intricate system control, including detailed DRAM information. ASUS UEFI BIOS natively supports hard drives larger than 2.2TB in 64-bit, with full storage space utilization helping deliver far more exciting computing than traditional BIOS versions.
  • newegg Quad USB 3.0 & SATA III In addition to two rear USB 3.0 ports, the ASUS P8Z68 Deluxe also comes with front panel USB 3.0 box offering two USB 3.0 ports on front panel for easy access. The SATA 6Gbps support enables blistering fast data transfer of twice the speed of SATA revision II to reduce the system bottleneck and radically improve overall performance.

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Board worked for over a year. good perfomanace

Cons: motherboard went bad but they agreed to replace it. Sent forms in to their cross ship department in CA.
They lost the forms (I verified they were received by fax).
Never notified that they were never received until I had to waste my time to check.
Resent forms.
Again no response.
Again had to call them and was told that everything was received and fine but to call in if no call back in 24 hrs.
Again nothing heard so I had to call back again.
Now told that forms were too old and to resubmit them.
Has now been over a month.
Asus just doesnt have its act together.

3 out of 5 eggsP8Z68 Deluxe- After 2 yrs. of use

Pros: Pretty useful BIOS, very user friendly, lots of fan connections, sata II and sata III ports (4 each).
Does what I need it to do (within reason).

Cons: Lots of cons, Asus Utility does not read CPU temps correctly, it is about 10 deg off, even after I updated. Defeats the whole purpose of utility if info is not correct! Board gets flaky when it comes out of hibernate, causes cpu to max out. You cannot use 1600 ram unless you use all 4 slots, reads 1333 even though I have tried to set it at 1600, it wil revert back to 1333 after some research I found this out. Windows score is 5.9 because of HD's no matter what type of HD is installed, if you install more than 1 HD. Take storage drives out and only leave primary (OS) in and score goes up to 6.9. Have not tried any raid yet, but have read other reviews and they were not good. Lots of other cons, but too many and/or not important enough to mention. Nvidia drivers and Intel drivers are constantly in conflict.

Other Thoughts: My build; i5 2500k, 8gb ram (1600), 150 gb WD Velociraptor 10,000 rpm (primary HD), 2TB secondary HD, 550 ti GPU. 550 watt PSU (mod). I totally see why Asus has discontinued this board. According to reviews, the next board (Z77) is way better, sounds like Asus may have "ironed out the wrinkles" on Z77. My next build will definately NOT be Asus. Maybe go with MSI or Gigibyte

1 out of 5 eggsGarbage

Pros: Looks pretty.

Cons: This board keeps losing SATA drives at random. Sometimes you can pwr dwn, rearange them and it works again. Finally got fed up enough to call tech support. It was barely even a conversation. The guy didn't ask me to check anything just gave me an RMA. Figured I was getting a new board right? No, just sent me back the board with no explaination. Now my SSD boot drive is recognized in the BIOS but it will not boot - get a message to "select proper boot device". The drive is fine (tried it in another computer). Tried tech support again last night after 10 minutes I was disconnected. Called back waited 15+ and still no support. The is unbefreakinleavable! Will never buy ASUS again.

Other Thoughts: The manual is a joke. I get that this is supposed to be an enthusiast board but please. The analog audio is unusable. Couldn't get really any "deluxe" features to work. The bios control app under windows 7 worked initially now not at all. Newegg I want my money back.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We apologize for the issue you had with the motherboard and with our customer service quality.

Regarding the "select proper boot device", please make sure that your SSD has the highest priority in the boot order list. You can change this order in BIOS. If you are still having trouble booting into the SSD, please contact me at cl-benson@asus.com.

1 out of 5 eggsWarped Board

Pros: Looks Great

Cons: Board was bent/warped. Got an RMA from ASUS twice with warped boards still!! I sent my accessories by mistake with the RMA and sent form to get them back with $10 shipping which was fine as it was my fault. Still nothing, so now I have a warped unusable board with no accessories. I like ASUS products but this is an exception, poor quality control with this board. Now the board is discontinued so I am sure I am out of luck.

Other Thoughts: ASUS customer support is not all that good. I am now out almost $300. Thanks ASUS!!!!

5 out of 5 eggsYou Got Your Mouse In My BIOS

Pros: This motherboard is quite good. I was originally concerned about airflow (it just didn't look aerodynamic, to me) but I was wrong. Air moves nicely around it and my whole system remains very cool.
EFI is something to get used to. I've been on American Megatrend most of my life so this shiny, visually-pleasing setup screen is "wacky", although it is easy to use.

I have an HT Omega Claro+ Plus sound card but I decided to try out the onboard sound card (Realtek). I was very pleasantly surprised by the quality of sound it produces. The digital output isn't as good as the HTO but unless you're an audiophile like me, you won't notice or even care. The MIC jack actually outperforms the HTO's. While the HTO picks up a lot of e-field noise from the computer, the onboard mic picks up virtually none.

It has many SATA ports.
The peripheral slot layout is carefully-crafted.

Cons: This is more of a con with my brain... I'm a stickler for order so I want my "C" drive to be in SATA port 1. And "X" in 2, and so on.
I can never remember if the SATA port closer to the board (since they're stacked at 90 degrees) is port 1 or if the higher one is port 1 (congruent with top-down, left-right reading order).
I'm looking forward to a day when my brain decides to remember which is which or when they print labels on the ports.

Either one will be a nice, small victory for me.

4 out of 5 eggsq-Code 96?

Pros: So, everything installed without a hitch, but when you boot the beast up, it always gives error code 96 ( pci bus assign resources ) - and the red light is over the PCI E slot 1. tried all different slots and even without card, but still get the same error, and no display. Is there a problem with my board?

Cons: Wont boot up

Other Thoughts: seems to be a great mobo if we can get it to boot up

5 out of 5 eggsgreat board

Pros: have built 6 desktops in the last 10 years. used 4 different mother board manufactures. Never had issues with Asus, only replaced them when wanting to upgrade.
Having said that, I dont go crazy with clock speeds on any components and clean out the dust in the tower about 6 times a year. I will update the BIOS about once a year and Asus makes this very easy to do.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Never had to deal with Asus tech support so cant comment on that. But the web site always seems to have the information i am looking for.. Newegg is the best..Many orders NEVER a bad experiance.

1 out of 5 eggsreplacement board also Bowed/Warped/Bent

Pros: how can there be a Pro with a defective board?

Cons: I received yet another bowed/warped/bent board. That makes two for two. I think it is obvious that Asus has a problem with manufacturing this board, and either Asus QC is so horrible that they didn't catch this obvious manufacturing defect, which you can detect by inspection, and now they don't want to fess up to the problem and recall all the defective boards, OR, Asus knew about the problem and decided to ship the defective boards anyway to unload their defective inventory. But I have told Asus support about both of the defective boards I have received, so I know they know about it.

Other Thoughts: I am an electrical engineer. I know what I am talking about. For those of you that do not know, a bowed/warped/bent PCB (Printed Circuit Board, what all of the components are attached to) is a long term reliability issue. The board may work now, but as time passes you will have more and more problems with it.

It really bothers me that Asus is not doing the right thing and recalling these boards. I thought Asus was a high class and reputable manufacturer, but if Asus isn't going to do the right thing and take these boards off the market and ship solid motherboards to replace them then unfortunately I am done with Asus. If I worked for Asus I would be so ashamed of my employer right now.

If you buy this board after reading my review, then you only have yourself to blame when the board starts giving you problems later on.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Sorry to hear about the issues. Please contact us at Newegg_ASUS_MBSupport@asus.com stating all RMA case numbers and if possible attach pictures of where the board is warped.

Regards
ASUS Customer Support

5 out of 5 eggsProblems with sound but sweet board

Pros: Believe it or not, the option of a front USB 3.0 port is highly desirable (with the included adapter in the deluxe pack). This is worth a few extra bucks to me so that I can pop on an external USB 3.0 drive for quick backups.

Cons: I had this motherboard for about a week before the sound started to degrade.
(intermittant pops and eventually I was getting hash out the back speaker and the front audio jack). This I am sure is not a problem with the Asus product line, but a single board burn-in glitch.
-this stuff happens...

Other Thoughts: This board overclocks beautifully. 4.4GHZ without a hicchup. The software simply is Asus solid.
