Based on AMD 990X /SB950 chipset, ASUS M5A99X EVO ATX motherboard lets you take advantage of the powerful AMD AM3+/AM3 multi-core processors. You’ll enjoy up to 5200MT/s HyperTransport 3.0 (HT 3.0) interface speed, quad USB 3.0 & SATA 6Gb/s and PCI Express 2.0 x16 graphics with support for CrossFireX and SLI technologies.

The M5A99X EVO is equipped with DIGI+ VRM technology in addition to the TPU and EPU processors that offer enhanced performance and power management. DIGI+ VRM power delivery allows a user to precisely adjust and control power settings digitally for precise power control and flexible tuning of their system. Also included is the intuitive and feature laden ASUS UEFI BIOS menu interface allowing users to control and adjust their motherboard settings through the use of a mouse-enabled interface for a superior user-friendly experience that BIOS does not offer.

  • newegg AMD FX /Phenom II /Athlon II /Sempron 100 Series Processors Support This motherboard supports AMD AM3+ multi-core processors with unique L3 cache and current AMD Phenom II /Athlon II /Sempron 100 Series processors. The AMD 990X Chipset is designed to support up to 5200MT/s HyperTransport 3.0 (HT 3.0) interface speed and dual PCI Express 2.0 x16 graphics (1x16 or 2x8).
  • newegg DIGI+ VRM ASUS DIGI+ VRM is an innovative, industry-leading technology that fully integrates Intel VRD12 specifications on a native level, greatly enhancing power to go far beyond the limits of analog designs. ASUS DIGI+ VRM acts as a digital controller to perfectly match digital power signal (SVID) requests from the CPU, eliminating digital-to-analog conversion lag. The exclusive dual driver and MOS design doubles the heat dissipation area with expanded cooling surfaces for improved thermal performance. Spacing components out over a wider area speeds up cooling to enhance reliability and stability. The same exclusive dual driver and MOS design also provides twice the CPU power supply with two complete power stages. This results in far greater phase load tolerances, so the CPU never has to wait for power to arrive, increasing performance and overclocking potential.
  • newegg TPU & EPU The TPU chip offers precise voltage control and advanced monitoring through Auto Tuning and TurboV functions. Auto Tuning offers a user friendly way to automatically optimize the system for fast, yet stable clock speeds, while TurboV enables unlimited freedom to adjust CPU frequencies and ratios for optimized performance in diverse situations. The EPU chip provides a real-time, dynamic power saving by automatically detecting current PC loadings and intelligently moderating power consumption. This also reduces fan noise and extends component longevity!
  • newegg UEFI BIOS The new ASUS UEFI BIOS is an Extensible Firmware Interface that complies with UEFI architecture, offering a user-friendly interface that goes beyond traditional keyboard-only BIOS controls to enable more flexible and convenient mouse input. Users can easily navigate the new UEFI BIOS with the same smoothness as their operating system. The exclusive EZ Mode displays frequently-accessed setup info, while the Advanced Mode is for experienced performance enthusiasts that demand far more intricate system settings. The UEFI BIOS also natively supports hard drives larger than 2.2TB in 64-bit, with full storage space utilization, helping deliver far more exciting computing than traditional BIOS versions!
  • newegg Quad USB 3.0 & 6 x SATA III AMD SB950 Southbridge natively supports next-generation Serial ATA (SATA) storage interface, which delivers up to 6.0 Gb/s data transfer rates. ASUS facilitates strategic USB 3.0 accessibility for both the front and rear panel - 4 USB 3.0 ports in total. Experience the latest plug & play connectivity at speeds up to 10 times faster than USB 2.0.
  • newegg Quad-GPU SLI and Quad-GPU CrossFireX Support The ASUS M5A99X EVO features two PCI-E 2.0 x16 slots (x16 or dual x8) that support Quad-GPU SLI and Quad-GPU CrossFireX, delivering a brand-new gaming style you’ve never experienced before!

1 out of 5 eggsTerrible Product

Pros: worked for a week

Cons: after about a week of owning this board it my rig began to shut off randomly didnt matter what i was doing...so i went thru the basics memtest swapped psu swapped ram swapped gpu swapped cpu redid heatsink new thermal paste the whole nine yards after about a week of slaving over it the problem seemed to solve itself so i thought eveything was fine....about six months later it began again so it took it out of my rig and saw a somewhat large burn on the backside of the mobo behind the usb 2.0 headers so i rma it back to asus assuming i would receive a refurb just have them send the old one back in the same condition...me assuming that it would work put it back in my case to find to no avail the problem persist so i contacted asus again and the first support tech i spoke to told me to buy a new board :( i hung up called back and spoke to a dif tech who told me if i had a credit card or a bank i could have them put a hold for the value of the board they would send me a new and i had to return the old one but i do not have a cc or suffient funds to do either so now im stuck without a pc going on 6 weeks now and prob wont have $ for a new one for at least another month....i would highly advise against buying this product for i wish this head ache on know one :(

Other Thoughts: it was great while it worked!

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Sorry to hear that the RMA board didn't work. What we can do is send you a return label so you won't have to pay for shipping.

Please provide me with your RMA number and serial number so I can look at your previous case. You said you are unable to use your board for 6 weeks. So the board isn't being used so you will be able to send it in for service.

If you have any questions or comments you can email me again at cl-jeffrey@asus.com which I reside in the U.S

ASUS strives to meet and exceeds our customer expectations within our warranty policy.

Regards,

Jeffrey

5 out of 5 eggsGreat motherboard

Pros: it has been working since 2012, I've had no problems so far. I managed to over clock my amd Athlon to 3.3Ghz (3.0Ghz stock) with a 10 dollar cpu cooler, well the motherboard did the overclocking b/c i cant do it myself since the Athlon is a locked processor but i haven't really messed tried to do it.

I really don't know why motherboards have such low ratings they buyer obviously damages it in the installation process.

Cons: I found out when you install a new motherboard you must reinstall windows OS for your computer to work properly.

Other Thoughts: The PCB color is black and some parts on the motherboard are blue nice for aesthetics matches my NZXT Phantom. The motherboard matches the white/blue fans in my case.

Amd athlon 640 3.3Ghz
1Tb hard drive
Gtx 550 ti (SLI soon)
NZXT Phantom
Corsair 600 watts
4gb ram no brand
and this motherboard :D

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Best board I have ever had. Has all the features I need and plenty of room for expansion.

Cons: The cpu power plug in is located near the cpu which makes it difficult for some power supply to reach it since my psu sits at the bottom.

2 out of 5 eggsBad board... for me

Pros: Great board on paper... worked great for a week.

Cons: Died... RMA'd and got a dead board back. It refuses to post, and I can't figure out why. Tested PSU, RAM, even RMA'd the processor, to no avail. Disappointing actually, because I'm a long time ASUS customer (I have no less than three of their boards working around my house right now).

Other Thoughts: FYI, if you have to RMA a board to ASUS (it was after the 30 day period for Newegg's RMA that I attempted this board's RMA), you have to pay shipping... AMD didn't require such a thing when I did the processor... imagine that!

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We're sorry for the experience with the motherboard. Can you tell me your hardware setup, configuration, BIOS version on the motherboard (if known), description of events (sights: ASUS Q-LED (CPU, DRAM, VGA, Boot Device LED, or sounds: beep codes) after power on, and RMA # so that we can look into your case? 5 out of 5 eggsFirst AMD Build

Pros: Price was great during Black Friday. Great board layout.

Build:
Cooler Master HAF XM
Corsair CMPSU-740TX
AMD Zambezi FX-8150
8GB Corsair Vengeance
2 WD WD20EURS
Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus
1 SanDisk Extreme 120 GB

Cons: I wish the on-board RAID controller had a few of the newer configurations.

Other Thoughts: I waited a while to see if any issues arose. I now have 6 VMware OS's running on the 8 cores without issues. These include Red Hat, Centos, Linux Mint, Windows 8, Windows Server 2008 R2, and FreeNAS. Wear your wrist strap!!! ESD is a killer.

5 out of 5 eggsPretty Good Board

Pros: I haven't had a problem yet! It was VERY easy to instal! I have two 8GB sticks of RAM, an 8 core processor, a 1GB HD video card and an AverMedia Capture Card installed and it detected everything without a problem. Despite what others have said, I didn't need to update the BIOS. The BIOS is very easy to use and allows me to manually adjust the fan speeds to optimize cooling. Also, with AI Suite II, I can adjust everything from my desktop, which is very convenient.

Cons: It's a little slow booting up, but it's not too bad. Also, there weren't enough places on the board to plug in all the fans that my tower has.

My only other issue is that it is very hard to find good speakers that can make full use of the Realtek High Definition Audio.

Other than that, it is a pretty good board.

Other Thoughts: It actually saddens me to see this board discontinued. I don't plan to over-clock my PC, so I hope this will be a long-lasting board.

2 out of 5 eggsWorks Great, when it works

Pros: Fast board with plenty of USB ports. The auto overclocking feature is brain dead easy.

Cons: Had the board about a month and a half and it then would not post. I worked for about a week on it and it was never consistent. I had four, four gig dimms; so I removed two and it would boot for a day or two. Then it would not boot. According to the boot LEDs, it was the graphics card. Replaced the card, booted for a few more days and then it would not.

I then finally got Asus involved and they eventual had me send it in. Got the same board back, worked for about month and now it wont post. Giving Asus one more shot at resovling this then I am giving up.

Other Thoughts: Customizeable board, only wish it would be consistent.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We're sorry for the experience you had with the motherboard. The intermittent no POST issue may be PSU related. We suggest trying a higher Wattage PSU from a reputable brand for another test. If you need assistance with your RMA or like to continue support, please email me at cl-benson@asus.com (reference #C1037-8434 in the subject line). Thank you.
