2 out of 5 eggsASUS P8Z68-V LX 1155

Pros: Nice board with many integrated features. Build in video works pretty well for basic internet and word processing use.

Cons: Unable to get an external video card to work. The first micro I installed (Intel I3 2100) worked for about 6 months; then started getting cpu overtemp. Played with the fan but no joy. Replaced the micro and the board works fine but still have the video card issue.

Other Thoughts: I've upgraded the bios; cleared the memory and now am considering rma through asus.

I've used ASUS motherboards for many years and never had this level of frustration.

Manufacturer Response:

5 out of 5 eggsMotherboard from the future

Pros: A motherboard that includes USB 3.0, 8 channel audio, Crossfire ability, UEFI BIOS, Ivy bridge compatibility, onboard HDMI, DVI, and VGA outputs, aftermarket cooling space, SATA 6.0, and being UNDER 150 United States Dollars is a great board for a budget. The UEFI BIOS is a major upgrade from the complicated DOS BIOS. SATA 6.0 that can make use of Solid State Drives. Ivy bridge compatibility. USB 3.0 is a exceptional addition. Great for builds that are standard and on a budget.

Cons: Somewhat picky with Ram, check the manufacturer page for Ram it will save you a headache. Ironically installing the I/O shield was the most difficult part of the build. Razor sharp edges on the shield and the left over aluminum from the output port areas made lining up the ports frustrating. Second PCIe 2.0 slot runs at 4x speed but knew that when purchasing it. Just nit picks really.

Other Thoughts: A 120 USD motherboard with more features than a board worth 250 USD is quite a deal. Strange dimensions but not really a pro or con. The black/second PCIe 2.0 slot is at 4x speed. Which means it will run slower than the Blue/first PCIe 2.0 slot at 16x speed. This Crossfire is primarily designed to take off heat from the first GPU. All in all this board is amazing for the price. Don't be fooled to buy a cheap motherboard with little to no expandability, this board will give you more expandability in the long run.

5 out of 5 eggsUpdate on bad review

Pros: I need to take back my bad review. Great BIOS. Back to being a very loyal Asus customer.

Cons: Still not as good as my previous Asus motherboard.

Other Thoughts: I unfairly criticized Asus for not responding to a ticket submission. What happened is they sent me a link to look up what was happening with the ticket. I looked it up and it said it was under review. I was expecting an email which I never got telling me what to do next. I later looked at the link and it told me what to do.

4 out of 5 eggsYup

Pros: Looks great, Its Asus, Simple layout.

Cons: Sound no longer works.

Other Thoughts: I enjoy Asus brand quite a bit. Though this is the 1st time out of all my builds I have every had any issue with there boards. The sound has just stopped working on the board and I have noticed a scratch on the board and fallowed it. Yup you guessed it, went strait to the sound chip. While everything else works great with the system I just have no sound. The board needs to be replaced obviously so I'll see how Asus's customer support is and will do a fallow up post on this.

2 out of 5 eggsOver all OK

Pros: The board was easy to install, and has case mount holes to fit a variety of cases. The bios is great. Over all the board is great, minus a few defects, my board has.

Cons: knocked an egg off for the first 3 1/2 months it kept beeping, 9 times, every-time I turned the computer on, restarted it, or woke it up from hibernation mode, haven't gotten another internal speaker to see if the beeping stopped because of the one on it now blew (doubt).

Knocked an egg off because the 2 3.0 USB slots will NOT work, the only thing I tried to plug into the board was my external docking station. It is a 2.0 device, but 3.0 is backwards compatible, I have used it on other computers that have 3.0 so I know for sure.

Knocked an egg off because of the Tech Support. The tech support I got last time I called about the beeping told me that it most likely ether my CPU or my RAM, tested both of them and they were perfectly fine. Contacted them again the tech support basically gave me the run around, so I am stuck with a board that doesn't fully work.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We apologize for the issue you had with the motherboard.

Typically beep codes are 1 long and up to 4 short beeps. It is unusal that the motherboard emits that many beeps. After 9 beeps, does the system perform normally? While it beeps, does POST continue or are there error messages? Could the beep come from another device such as an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS)?

In order to use USB 3.0 slots in Windows, drivers must be installed. Please try to uninstall and reinstall drivers them here: http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Intel_Socket_1155/P8Z68V_LX/#download. Have you tried using Legacy USB 3.0 mode in BIOS? If your devices are not plugged into the docking station but straight into the USB 3.0 slots, will they work?

5 out of 5 eggsAsus P8Z68-V LX LGA155 Intel Z68 board.

Pros: Neweggs price, service and delivery. Very nice board. Alot of features that only high end boards have. Installed well, fired up instantly, loaded Windows in 12 minutes. Was up on the Internet in 45 minutes with setup and security installed. Had coffee too.

Cons: None. I read the reviews here before I purchased the board and checked accordingly. See others thoughts below.

Other Thoughts: HDMI header is on the back of the board. My case cable is long enough to reach it. Ran it along the side of the top of the case and down the back, perfect length.
Fan of the CPU cooler is in the way of the first memory slot. Installed the fan on the opposite side pulling air through the cooler. Very close to the rear case fan, pulls the air right out.
PWM fan headers are on the top edge of board. Makes it tight with a top case fan. Install the top fan after cooler fan and rear fan cables are conected.
The board is a little short in the front, missing 3 screw holes. Connecting the 24 pin PSU cable and installing memory I had the feeling of the board breaking. Fabbed up a pad to slip under the board while these items were being done.
All in all, I am very happy with it. Performs Eggcelently!!

5 out of 5 eggsMy Ivy Bridge Worked w/o bios flash

Pros: People have been saying that you have to flash the bios in order to get an ivy bridge to work with this motherboard, but I had no problems. I have the i5 3570K and after setting everything up, I installed windows and drivers and everything is working just great now.

Cons: There are a couple slots that could have been placed in better places making for easier cord management but its really no big deal

2 out of 5 eggsToo primitive, and I am mad at Asus

Pros: Not sure - While the BIOS in my previous Asus board was the easiest I have seen to overclock a year ago, the other makers may have caught up by now.

Cons: 1. I am mad at Asus. This is an immediate replacement for another Asus motherboard that started on fire. So far no word from Asus, despite the stated "48 hours" response time. I am not sure whose fault it is, but I would like a response.
2. This board is just too primitive. It has no place to plug in USB-3.0 ports on to the main motherboard, let alone other ports. I do not understand why they placed one PCI-e slot next to x16 slot where it would be blocked by a graphics card. To use it I had to place my video card near the bottom of my case where it does not get good air ciculation. I could not use it if I had two video cards. Granted, I made a mistake by not paying attention to the specs, but that does not alter how primitive this board is. I could get a lot more board for the more money if I went with a different brand (which I did not do since I am hoping my drivers will transfer over and this board will be plug and play).

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We apologize for the issue you had with the motherboard.

If you have no had a status update for 48 hours, it may be due to there is no new information available. However, we would still contact you in that case. Please call 1-812-282-2787 regarding your case or RMA.

Please always refer to the pictures provided on Newegg or on our official website to see that there's enough clearance for your expansion cards. If you install a video card on the bottom slot, be sure that there's adequate cooling--bottom case fan is available to draw air away from the card. If you need exact measurements, please let me know at cl-benson@asus.com reference #C1037-2578.

1 out of 5 eggsWon't Post

Pros: Good instructions.

Cons: Plugged everything and will not post, no beep, the case and cpu fan runs.
Cleared the cmos, plugged in a video card, used the board video port, removed the battery, reseated the memory, reseated the power connectors on both 24 and 8 pin. Made sure the memory module matched from ASUS website.
All these and still no post, no beep.

Other Thoughts: RMA'd the board back

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We apologize for the issue you had with the motherboard.

Does the onboard standby LED come on after you plug in the 24-pin? Can you tell me what CPU you're using and the make model of video card? If your CPU has onboard graphics feature, please remove the video card and use either the built in hdmi/dvi/vga. Are you using a video card that is compatible with the PCIe 2.0 slot? Can you also try the second PCIe 2.0 x4 slot?

To continue support, please contact me at cl-benson@asus.com reference #C1037-2031.
