5 out of 5 eggsNice Little Board

Pros: Inexpensive board with overclocking options and PWM fan control. Handles an FX-6300 very well. Overall a very nice buy for the money. If I am happy with the price I paid for a product after using it, that is about the best Pro I can give.

Cons: None at this price point. It does everything I need it to do.

Other Thoughts: You could pay more to get a newer style bios, more RAM slots, better board cooling, etc. but for the money this board will be a hard one to beat. Excellent build quality, very nice looks, and ASUS quality. For many years I have used ASUS motherboards exclusively in my own builds and have never once been disappointed.

1 out of 5 eggsNo Display. OutDated BIOS. Not FX ready

Pros: nothing...

Cons: BIOS is outdated. Couldn't read my FX-6300. The VGA display wouldn't work. I also used the DVI display on my GPU and it still wouldn't show any display.

If you have any FX CPUs I highly recommend not buying this motherboard, even though it stated AM3+ socket and FX support.

GPU Fans would spin and stop and spin again. CD drive Opens and closes immediately after opening.

I tested the my GPU on my friends computer and it worked properly same with the CD drive. I tested his CD drive on mine and it would open and close like I stated above and to make sure I persuade him to test out his XFX 7870 Double D Edition on this motherboard and the fans would spin and stop and spin.

Unfortunately, I couldn't persuade him to let me test out his CPU so I can update the BIOS to 1401 because he has an Intel Core Processor.

Other Thoughts: Last time I am buying from Asus. Please keep your motherboard BIOS up to date.

5 out of 5 eggsworks great

Pros: Just built my first PC with this. Specs.
AMD FX 6300
XFX R9 270X 4GB
This motherboard
8GB of 1600 ram
Windows 8.1

Cons: None so far. But if your going to use windows 8.1 you can't install the drivers from the disk at all. You have to get the ones of the internet. (Which I would do anyway)

1 out of 5 eggsWhat happened to this company? (ASUS, not Newegg)

Pros: Worked great for 4 months.

Cons: Dead in 4 months. Customer service an absolute joke.

Other Thoughts: Please note, my criticism of this product has nothing to do with Newegg. They are and always have been fantastic. ASUS on the other hand...

After working great for four months, this board dropped dead. The video and sound channels quit working entirely, and it wouldn't even power up the fan. After running numerous bench tests and swapping hardware ( including a brand new power supply and a second monitor) the only change I could affect was that after removing the system battery, the board then started to power the fan. Still no video, no sound, no boot up.

I shipped back to ASUS (it was beyond Newegg's return time), who turned around and shipped it back to me in the exact same condition. Did they even open the box? Who knows. Tech support assured me they would have tested it and found it operating at spec. How can that be on a board that has no sound, video, etc?

I spent too much time arguing/explaining all of this with a tech, who eventually decided my G-Skill memory stick was not on their list of Approved Vendors, therefore he couldn't do anything for me until I bought some different memory. All of this regardless of the fact that the board won't even power up with NO memory or peripherals attached.

I did some research and found a number of reviews on this board saying the exact same thing. Dead in 4-5 months and ASUS refuses to help. I finally bought a new board from a different manufacturer. Surprise, surprise, it booted right up and the computer has been working better than ever.

ASUS used to be one of the best but I will probably never buy from them again.

1 out of 5 eggsNo VGA - No Beeps... dead

Pros: nothing... it doesn't work

Cons: Like many of the other review the motherboard didn't output to the VGA. I tried resetting the CMOS and it didn't help. The board is dead on arrival.

1 out of 5 eggsASUS M5A78L-M LX PLUS AM3+ AMD 760G + SB710 Micro ATX AMD Motherboard

Pros: None whatsoever.

Cons: Addendum to earlier review. This is for ASUS support. Made to fill out a pre authorization. After that told to call number with authorization number. 1 hour and 20 minutes on the phone holding before I hung up in disgust without ever speaking to a human. ASUS has the lousiest customer service I have witnessed recently. I will never buy from ASUS again. Not because their products sometimes fail but because their customer service is non existant. If they think they are so good at customer service ask them how come it is so hard to get.

Other Thoughts: Asus touts their customer service. Another fairy tail from a place that has NO direct contact with customer service and makes you jump through hoops to even get on a queue and wait and wait and wait...until you give up in disgust.

1 out of 5 eggsASUS M5A78L LX PLUS

Pros: None yet.

Cons: No video on power up. Monitor test fine. No extra cards on this build so no conflicts with add on cards. Fans power up, CPU fan powers up, light on board glows green but no signal to the monitor. Cant say what else is not working since I can't see a screen. Get a single beep on power up.

Other Thoughts: I should have looked at the almost 20% failure rate. I just looked at the specs and the cost. Won't do that again.

Manufacturer Response:

Greetings,

I am sorry that you are having issues getting your motherboard to POST. Try resetting the CMOS of the motherboard. This should resolve the issue you are having with the unit. If not, I would be happy to help troubleshoot the motherboard further. I can be reached through email. 3775795.
