5 out of 5 eggsGreat motherboard for my needs

Pros: Perfectly compatible with my fx 8350. I read a lot of reviews saying It wasn't compatible and/or the bios needed to be updated before hand. This wasn't the case for me. Works with it right out of the box.

Cons: None that I am aware of yet

Other Thoughts: Great price, great quality.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Has 6 SATA ports and an actual dedicated serial port. Board is extremely cheap, especially considering it has support for ECC RAM and all but the largest FX series processors.

Cons: SATA ports are only 3Gbps. The built in Gb Ethernet is based on a Realtek chipset.

Other Thoughts: I got this box primarily for a light-duty but high-capacity and high-reliability FreeNAS server. I don't need to get to my data quickly, but I want to store a lot and I need to be sure it's got full end-to-end protection even in RAM.

The ECC RAM was a huge plus for this, and the 3Gbps SATA wasn't a big negative. Even if the 3Gbps becomes a bottleneck, there is a 16x PCI-Express slot available to drop in a faster controller, and the total cost is probably still less than the next closest motherboard with 6Gb SATA and ECC support.

The FreeNAS support for the Realtek Ethernet gave me enough trouble in that I ended up dropping in an Intel NIC.

The dedicated serial port is a nice plus if I want to do remote serial port console for FreeNAS.

With even the lowest FX-4xxx series processor, you can also get hardware AES support and run encrypted drives with no major speed loss.

1 out of 5 eggsNot very happy.

Pros: Cheap, quickly shipped. This was my 2nd mobo, a replacement.

Cons: I'm 2 for 2 with bad mobos. (This particular model anyway) The first one failed to POST after about 5 days usage, This current one failed out of the box.

Other Thoughts: When I pull everything off of this mother board, and put them into a similar mother board, everything works. But when I re-test on this board, It doesn't even post. I hope that I can contact someone from ASUS to sort this out, (or perhaps refund at this point?) because this this was my 2ND board, (sent to me due to RMA) new egg will not allow me to RMA it.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for purchasing an ASUS product!

I apologize for the issues you are having with the motherboard. Please contact me as soon as possible regarding this case, as I may have a solution to this matter. 3583158.

4 out of 5 eggsGood motherboard. Solid 4 egg.

Pros: Good construction. Handles light overclocks. High overclocks have not been attempted on this board.

Cons: No DVI

Other Thoughts: I got what I paid for. I expect this board to last me a while. It will mostly be stored and I'm sure will work great whenever I need it.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat cheap little board

Pros: -cheap
-lots of features for a budget micro ATX board
-Its more or less lasted 6 months of hard work when my gaming rig broke and I couldn't afford to fix it. I put the AMD fx 8350, 8 gigs of ram and one of my gtx 550 ti all with just a 500w psu.
-it was only meant to be a media center in my living room. so it normally has an athlon2 triple core (unlocked to 4), 4 gigs of ram, gt220 video, blu-ray drive, and a TV card for pvr, with a bunch of hard drives.
-I still haven't gotten a proper case for it so it's been in an old compaq case that doesn't have a side so it's been sucking in a lot of dust and cat hair.
-when I don't have my gaming parts in there it runs quiet and cool

Cons: -on board audio went within the first month, it still works there is just a loud buzzing over everything. This could be related to the less than stellar case I have it in as I had to disconnect one of the front USB ports cause it was shorting out the motherboard
-rather than go to the trouble of RMA I just got a 7.1 pcie x1 card for pretty cheap.
-it would have been nice to have more usb slots (or even usb 3.0) bluthooth and/or wireless on board (but then again it is a budget board)

Other Thoughts: This is the first Asus board I have bought (only had MSI before) and im pretty impressed, for such a small cheap board it can take a beating

1 out of 5 eggsJUNK

Pros: Can't really think of any.

Cons: Tech service might as well be non-exixtant, at least it wouldn't be a waste of time.
The board is cheaply made and sparce; the manual is a joke.
By the way, ASUS, 6 SATA slots is not the same as a SATA 6 slot.
NO Raid
Unpredictable BIOS: never does the same thing twice. Foolish me, I thought I could wait until I had all the system components ready to go before I checked out this board. WRONG. Now a couple of days past being able to RMA it i find out I've been taken.
I tried to load the LAN driver only to find that it is not on the installastion disc. A 40 minute long distance call to customer service later, I'm abruptly switched to the ASUS retail store and told I can buy a replacement disc if I I don't want.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing for the cost

Pros: Works like 96% of the asus board ive purchased in the last 3 years

Cons: none really at the 50 and under price point how could there be

Other Thoughts: Ive purchased around 23 asus boards in the last 3 years and only 2 ive had to return , over 50% of the boards ive purchased have been refurbs so thats not a bad ratio considering, i hear people say oh those matx are junk they are not dependable , well ive had many prove that statement wrong, Asus does make good Matx boards and true they don't contain every feature their upper tier boards offer they work period , Asus is my #1 choice for motherboards and the LX series ive primarily purchased over the years have not let me down. Ive purchased multiple P5G41t-mlx, Mlx plus, M5A78L mlx and mlx plus models over the years , i have A P8Z77V-LX in my top rig and it works great, i have an old refurbed P7H55-MLX 1156 board i run a 655K in and it works great. So my opionion is if it works for you go for it. And Asus is my goto brand regardless of the tier i choose.

5 out of 5 eggsGood cheap Board

Pros: Micro ATX size. Cheap simple. Newegg says 8GB max memory but it is really 16GB.

Cons: Not really seeing how the only cons are because I didn't want to spend more money.

Other Thoughts: I am running ESXI 5.5 paired with a fx-6300 and 8GB of memory I had laying around. If anyone is looking to do this it worked fine for me. It is not showing the onboard NIC, but I think the BIOS needs an update. I have a dual card so I'm not worrying about it. Simple cheap home server board no fancy things to get in the way.

Newegg says 8GB max memory but it is really 16GB.
