5 out of 5 eggsSolid

Pros: If your reading this then you probably already know what this board offers. Easy overclock. Stable performance, easy to set up. As it should be for this level of product. Recognized all 64Gb of HyperX Beast 64GB KHX21C11T3FK8/64X no issues. Very happy with this setup. I have had some quirky issues with some other Asus WS boards, compatibility with Array Controllers specifically; and was hesitant to purchase Asus again, but this one has been grinding away. So Far So Good.

Cons: I got nothin.

4 out of 5 eggsThis is a Good Board

Pros: In a previous post, I titled the post, "Do Not Buy this Board." Well, after owning this board for a while I have to say that it is an excellent motherboard. It has never BSOD'd or froze or anything bad. I run Windows XP, Windows 7 (32 and 64 bit), and FreeBSD on the machine. Even though I get a lot of 'No Driver Attached' messages on FreeBSD, it still runs great, and virtual machines under freebsd still run great. I also game on it.

Cons: The reason that I said do not buy this board was the fact that the SSD caching does not work correctly. I bought an SSD for the machine: wasted money. Then Asus has videos on you tube bragging about the SSD caching along with the marketing graphics on the box too. Asus bent over backwards to help, but I was upset about the SSD caching not working. It still does not work correctly. It always forgets the the SSD cache has been enabled after a complete power down. I was also upset that Asus will not put a seal on their motheboard packages. I got a bent pin with the motherboard from Newegg. Newegg did exchange the board. Either Asus or Newegg has some employees that might do that.

Other Thoughts: With a Xeon CPU and ECC memory, this board never crashes. Runs great. How may motherboard seals could you buy with the two or three boards that I exchanged? SSD caching still does not work and will never work.

5 out of 5 eggsUpdate

Pros: Just an update after about 2 years with this board.
After I got all the little issues ironed out this board has been rock solid.
Gaming, photoshop, surfing.. what ever I'm doing it just does it. Never a blue screen or hiccup.
Just flashed the BIOS last week for the first time in over a year and it went flawless.
Like the new BIOS a lot. Easy to navigate.
Resumes from sleep in less than one second.
Easy to OC. Setup RAM in XMP and it just works.
My first ASUS board and I'm happy with it and ASUS parts.

Cons: No cons to talk about.
Works perfectly at this time.

Other Thoughts: i7 3630K OC to 4.2ghz
32G RAM (G Skill 2133)
2x GTX680
2x Intell 520 SSD
1x WD Black 2TB
watercooled using fan header to control PWM pump.
Works great.

5 out of 5 eggsno problems at all.

Pros: I built a new PC from scratch around Christmas. Started with a pile of new hardware and ended up with a beast. Booted easily, installed all drivers and updates no problem. It's been 5 months and no hiccups at all.

Cons: Lots of buttons and special do dads that I still don't really understand? lol

Other Thoughts: The EZ BIOS updater is... easy! While checking compatablity of my hardware, I found that to support my CPU the BIOS needed updating. I also read most of the owners manual, trying to figure out the correct way to build this machine. And making sure I didn't touch something that would kill it... So many options.

5 out of 5 eggsNice motherboard!

Pros: Great board with tons of features. I brought this board and built an 3D rendering workstation for my girlfriend, this board is great with Intel Xeon and ECC memory combination. Great performance with very low running temperature. Lots of I/O connectivity, dual Intel server grade NIC provides with maximum network efficiency. 10 times better than similar product from other vendor! Highly recommended!

Cons: If you don't disable USB 3.0 legacy support in your BIOS setting it could cause some type of USB 3.0 devices crash your Windows (BSOD) for some reason. Once legacy support been disabled for USB3.0 everything works nicely!

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect - But not after some struggles

Pros: This board has everything you will ever need. Period. Unless you need the extra PCI-E slots, there's really no reason to get the -E version. I didn't think it would fit into my older Lian Li case, but it's just ever so slightly larger than the AMD board I was replacing. Installing the CPU, RAM and everything else was a breeze. I love how with the Corsair H100i, you don't have to install a back plate, just screw it directly into the 2011 bracket and you're done. The board does take a few seconds to post, during which time it is flashing all sorts of Q codes at you. At first this concerned me, but once it went to "A0" and "AA" you're golden. It accepted all 64gigs of Mushkin RAM and all I had to do was enable the XMP profile and it automatically clocked the RAM at its advertised 2133Mhz speed. It also bumped the processor up from the stock 3.4Ghz to 3.8Ghz.

Cons: There is one major con that can happen if you're unlucky and get older stock. The BIOS - You need version 4306 to run the Ivybridge-E processors (which nowadays most everybody will be). I got a board that had been sitting in a warehouse and had the ancient 0802 BIOS on it. So I did what the ASUS support sites told me to do and started the process to flash the BIOS with the BIOS flashback utility. It never would work. Everything I did it just seemed to laugh at me. I called support, the guy walked me through the exact same steps... Nothing. Finally he said we could either RMA the board or they could ship me a new BIOS chip. I opted for the BIOS chip since I didn't want to take everything apart. Next day, I remove the old and put in the new chip. Same symptoms. It turned out they sent me the wrong one. Ok, fine, stuff happens, they're small chips that are hard to read. They send me another one for free. Next day, I install the new chip. The board doesn't even power on. I call support, they decide it be best if we RMA the board. I send it in. I get it back a week later. The board still does not power on. Not even using the onboard power button. No motherboard lights come on when I plug in the 24-pin power. At this point I'm kinda mad, I've got a $570 processor and $1000 worth of RAM just sitting here and it's been a month since I bought the board and I haven't even seen it post. I call support, they run around and ask everyone what to do. Finally I demand that I just get a brand new board. They agree. I send it in, they overnight me a brand new board. Check the bios and it is the newest (at the time) 4505 BIOS. I install the CPU and RAM and a dinky video card and it POST's!

Long story short... If you get an older board with an ancient BIOS, you may have a long road ahead of you. But it is completely worth it in the end.

The only good thing about this Con is that ASUS did make everything right in the end. At no point did they say that they were not going to honor the warranty. They even refunded me the $40 for the new BIOS chip and the overnight shipping I paid for. So ASUS warranty service is amazing.

Other Thoughts: If you've stuck around after the con's section then Congratulations!

Don't let the whole BIOS thing keep you from buying this board.

I'm not using this PC for anything that it should actually be used for. I'm not running any workstation software, video editing, and I'm playing a game every once in a while.

I basically have a 6core/12thread, 64 Gigs of RAM email and internet machine.

But - Everything it does, it does very quickly. I'm very glad that I went with this system.

2 out of 5 eggsCan only use 5 of the 6 slots

Pros: My board shipped with the latest BIOS
Workstation quality board
On-board power and reset

Cons: Can only use 5 of the 6 PCIe slots. Adding a card in the 6th slot causes a d4 q-code. This is a PCI resource allocation error. The board loops with this error. I've disabled all non-essential devices and tried setting the GEN speed to 1 and 2. Nothing works. I needed all 6 slots but right now I cannot find a solution to the problem.

Other Thoughts: My build:
N82E16813131798 - ASUS P9X79 WS LGA 2011
N82E16819116939 - Intel Core i7-4930K Ivy Bridge-E
N82E16820104364 - HyperX Beast 16GB

2 out of 5 eggsPowerful but Problems

Pros: All the bells and whistles you would ever want. Overclocking ability

Cons: Bad Marvell Ports, Blue screen when installing drivers. 2 min post time if any device is plugged in. Sent it back twice and came back twice without fixing the problem.

Other Thoughts: This board is very good if it was working properly. I don't like Asus Product support. It falls short, sending it back twice without a fix is not acceptable.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't Buy This Board

Pros: None

Cons: The first board that I got from Newegg had a bent CPU pin. It came here like that. From what I have read, Newegg often blames the end user for that condition and you get stuck with a bad motherboard. So, I rma it to newegg and they do send me another motherboard, but this time the motherboard does not work correctly as the marvell sata ports will not remember that you have enabled ssd caching. So since newegg delayed me for quite a while because they said that a hard drive had been shipped (it was not) then it was more than 30 days and they would not rma it again for me. (I'll never order from newegg again; anything big anyway). So I ship it to asus and got it back today. Asus did not even touch the motherboard. it came back in exaclty the same state as before with the exact same problem. I guess they were just too lazy to see if the marvell ports were working correctly that it would remember to save the ssd caching state. That must just take too long to check that for a customer. I mean you have to wait for it to initialize and that takes too much time I guess. Too much trouble; why do that when we already got his money right!

Other Thoughts: I WILL NEVER EVER BUY FROM ASUS AGAIN! I don't even know if I will ship it back again for another rma. I don't think they can handle it. They already got my money so what do i matter? I am just glad that I did not buy Asus video cards (sli). It has been two full months and I still don't have a working computer.

Manufacturer Response:
