5 out of 5 eggsKeep bios up to date

Pros: Have had the board for 3 years now. Board is extremely stable; however, you must keep the bios updated or it starts to hang on wakeup.. and so on... although they say "if it aint broke don't fix it", you will be surprised what a new ASUS bios can do, especially with the DDR3 ram. Holds memory well. Extremely powerful and stable on overclocking with 3.2gHz can go to 3.8 NP. Use a watercooler on CPU.

Cons: They come out with new bios every couple months and while you can miss a few, it should be kept up to date. I guess its best than to let the board rot with outdated bios. Updating BIOS can sometimes be tricky, so get a knack for it. ASUS does their best to help, but you have to do the work. Bottom line take your time.. read how to do it twice... then again before attempting.

Other Thoughts: I don't have the V3 2011, but prob don't need it. The 24 Gig DDR3 with 3.2 6-core runs fine, especially with the max RAM (W7 uses only 24gig)

5 out of 5 eggsAllmost 3 yrs of 24/7 running and still great :)

Pros: Purchased this board for a new build in early 2012 and despite running almost 24/7 since that day (off for power outages and dust cleaning), I've had no issues. Even the original fans are still quiet.

Everything stays at nice temps and voltages are solid, even when I'm hard on the system. And the built in ESD protection is great, as static electricity can be an issue around here sometimes (we killed a mouse from it getting shocked through the fingers if you forgot to touch the case first on the previous build, made the USB header act funky after a few times too, but haven't had an issue on this board from accidental ESD)

Cons: There were one or two BIOS versions that had bugs, but they have all been caught and corrected in a timely manner and the current BIOS version is smooth & stable.

The ASUS Update software for the BIOS has never been able to contact or find the update servers on it's own....not so much of a con as it is a convenience. But if I get the BIOS updates on my own from the Asus website, the ASUS Update Software has never failed to install it (provided it was named correctly, as they switched to a CAP format a while back and up until recently I've always had to rename the BIOS file for it to install). I've also tried a couple times once to update the BIOS with the BIOS Flashback feature a while back and could never get it to work (only was doing it to test it out)....but haven't tried it recently since they fixed their file names.

Other Thoughts: On my last Abit board I probably went though a half a dozen North Bridge chip cooling fans before I retired it, so i was a little skeptical about buying another board with fans....but like I said in the pros section, I haven't had a fan issue yet.

Another thing I liked about my previous Abit board was there was a place in the BIOS that recorded how much total time the system has been up and running, # of times it shut down due to power outage, # of times reset button has been pushed, ect... And I kind of wish they could put that info into this one. It was nice to be able to confidently say "Yes, I have over 58,000 running hours on the Seagate Baracuda drives with no issues" when someone would ask for a hardware recommendation. (p.s.: while those drives aren't my primary drives anymore, I still have them running Raid0 in this build for extra storage as well....still going strong)

1 out of 5 eggsWon't touch this - thanks Mark

Pros: I WAS an ASUS fanboy and have thrown literally thousands of dollars there way both personally and professionally. (I've worked in tech in education for nearly 20 years.)

Cons: but I will not purchase a product with drm or that has decided what kind of media I can or can't use. This is like net neutrality for hardware.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: This been an unbelievably great board for me and not sure how there are so many people having issues with this. My temps are reading at 23 Celsius idle and around 50 Celsius on an extremely heavy load. This board has been everything I needed it to be.

Cons: None as of yet, but by the sounds of things if something goes wrong Customer Service will not be fun. I will mention that there was a mail-in rebate when I originally purchased this, I sent in the all the info requested by ASUS for the rebate. Received letter back stating that I never included my original purchase receipt from Newegg ( I literally checked off every option on the sheet they make you send in). Giving them the benefit of the doubt I resent the original purchase receipt, on my own dime since they didn't include a prepaid envelope, then again received the same letter informing me that they were missing the receipt. If this is how they handle a small little mail-in rebate then I am going to absolutely HATE contacting them for any other issue.

Other Thoughts: My current setup:

Samsung 840 Pro Series SSD
HyperX 8GB RAM
WD Green 4TB HD

1 out of 5 eggsBoard had problems. Only got worse

Pros: Neat BIOS interface.

Cons: Wouldn't see all 4 sticks of ram no matter how I mixed/configured them it would only see 3. Didn't matter which 3, all sticks worked, but the 4th one would sometimes show in BIOS, sometimes it wouldn't. RAID controller randomly forgot about 4th drive and then on reboot would see again triggering a rebuild. Despite all this I used it for almost 2 years until it stopped booting. I sent the board to Asus and they sent it back saying it was scratched and wanted wayyy more than retail for a replacement. I am very careful with my equipment, so basically they scratched it, blamed it on me, and then told me to get bent.

Other Thoughts: I used to be really loyal to Asus, but this board and the support team completely turned me off.

5 out of 5 eggsHad many choices, I don't regret this one

Pros: Ive had this in my rig about a month and was not let down, this was my first full bore build and I am immensely happy with it, I searched around for awhile and almost got a rampage black addition but didn't due to the fact I was already over budget and this one was "cooler" temperature wise. I've got my 4820 K Overclocked at a steady 4.5 ghz and I run BF4 at 80-140 fps on ultra with my dual GTX 770's. I am very happy with this board and will most likely stick with Asus from now on.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I will most likely upgrade to a rampage black edition sometime in the future so I can run quad Sli when I get the money to drop 4 780 ti's in it.

1 out of 5 eggsRear Audio broken - only green jack registers

Pros: Board looks nice in my case. lol
Well after plugging every possible speaker jack into the rear audio ports and after two versions of Realtek audio ver 3.74 and 3.76 drivers I have had no luck getting audio. I've been building PC since the mid 90's this stuff is for 5th graders. Realtek's software only detects when green or front LR is plugged in. when plugging in orange (cent/sub) and Black (REAR L/R) the program see that something was plugged in but I am unable to assign it and no sound plays from those ports. I tested this with separate speakers. I also tested it with a xonar 7.1 sound card which plays perfectly. I guess my xonar card is going back in as ASUS's RMA process seems to be less than what I would expect from the price of this board.

Cons: Overpriced plastic.
Rear I/O Sound issues
RMA Process is to slow
$329.99 must be for value boards, then the next day price drops $25

Other Thoughts: Is it possible that ASrock is building better boards than
it's parent company? - not good ASUS, you were once the best.

Time to see what EVGA has to offer

1 out of 5 eggsdont waste your money

Pros: It works barely

Cons: I would go into the issues but that would be a waste of time like the board itself" harddrive/ controller/ video/ network I sent this back to asus to have them check it out when it came back the network controller was not working I had to install a network card and now I have to monitor boot because the video wont come half the time it does the same with 6 deferent video boards. 5 year warranty I would RMA it again but then it may not boot up at all

Other Thoughts: asus when you send a product back from RMA it should work as intended not worse 5 years worth of trouble not my idea of something I want any more of.

5 out of 5 eggsUpdated Review of 19Jul2013

Pros: Been reading all the reviews since my initial review on 19 July 2013. I can understand a few problems with some boards, but a lot of the poor ones I just don't get. I've updated components (i7-3930K to i7-4930K), now at 64 GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHZ 1.5v ram, Rosewill Ultra case, and an ASUS DCUII GTX 780. Running Sony Vegas Pro 12 on it with no issues. Was also able to insert the USB 3.0 Front Panel cable from the case into the "GREEN Right-angled" USB 3.0 header on the motherboard, just like the manual said I could. Really people, no front USB 3.0? I'm hoping ASUS has another great Sabertooth for us in the LGA 2011-3 socket with Haswell-E processor and X99 chipset! So along with this current Sabertooth, I am also running a Z87 Sabertooth with an i7-4770K, and passed along my Z77 Sabertooth with i7-3770 to my Brother, which is doing fine. Come on Intel and just release the new chips and chipset!!!!! I need to keep JJ busy doing videos by buying another ASUS Sabertooth board! Plus, it will be fun to see JJ on the interview rounds with both Paul and Linus. Heck, maybe even Logan.
So, in short, I've been able to update from Sandy Bridge-E to Ivy Bridge-E, upgrade my RAM, upgrade my Video Card, run Windows 8 Pro 64-Bit to include the update to 8.1 with update 1, including recently adding the Samsung UD590D 4K Monitor to the fold, and the board is running fantastic!

Cons: Besides the issue using the EZ Flash BIOS as mentioned in my previous review, none.

Other Thoughts: As you can see, I do not list my self as a "Somewhat High" or "High" Tech Knowledge, as a true IT person is ALWAYS learning. I worked with IT for my last 12 years in the Navy, and retired from a School District after working in IT last year, but still don't consider myself as having that "All-knowing" tech knowledge that I see constantly displayed in reviews of not only Newegg's site, but other sites as well. You may think you are like Anand, but there is only one!
