Pros: fast shipping from newegg

Cons: ASUS Support is ridiculous. This board has known issues with it detecting multiple keyboards and mice when only having 1 each connected however, no bios fix for this. according to ASUS, we are just supposed to deal with it as it doesn't really affect anything. ok yes i can agree to that however the fact that this board will NOT run QVL memory at the correct speed, that I cannot just “deal with”. this board won't run PC3-14900 DDR3 1866 memory at 1866 speed. Most i'm getting is 800 yet the manual states it is compatible memory and it will run 1866 speeds. Asus answer to this is RMA the board. Ok did that, same problem with the 2nd board and I also have another system with the same board having the same issue. Ram was tested w/memtest and all pass. Asus confirms that this is also an issue with this board however they have NO fix for it, don't plan on one and will not send me a replacement either of another model board that actually does what it is advertised to do. On that note, i'm done with Asus products. If they can't support their own product when it doesn't perform to their specifications then I don't need to ever purchase another product by them again, not even a monitor!. Anyway if you plan on using 1866 memory, don’t buy this board!

Other Thoughts: No i don' recommend this product

1 out of 5 eggsDefective board out of the box

Pros: Can't say anything since i wasn't even able to make it work, looks nice thought.
Newegg told me they would send me a new one, that's a positive even though it was inconvenient to take everything apart and ship it back.

Cons: The board was defective out of the box, had to return it for an exchange.

1 out of 5 eggsASUS DRM driven motherboard

Pros: Motherboard has lasted over 3 years, easy to over clock, nice suite of options, good performance

Cons: BD Audio Layer Content Protection, also known as Cinavia, is built into the heart of this motherboard. What that means is that let's say you just bought Avengers on BluRay and archived it to your PC so you don't risk scratching the disk and can stream it to your home network for every TV in your home. With this DRM built into the mother board itself that is no longer an option with the mother board. Best part is it's not advertised anywhere on the product so you'll won't know this is the case until you've already archived your entire movie collection and come to find out you can't watch any of them now. This is even more of a problem when this system is used for VFX work for film and TV as some times I'll get delivered DRM footage that now, thanks to this mother board and it's built-in DRM that is unadvertised, I had to buy a completely new mother board just to do my job.

Other Thoughts: As soon as the new non-ASUS board arrived and was installed I no longer had any of the DRM issues I was having before. I threw the old ASUS board in trash when I found it was the problem. I have been buying/using ASUS mother boards since 1995 and have never had a complaint until now. After having run into this problem myself I will make sure that I never buy an ASUS product again.

5 out of 5 eggsOwner since 2011, long term review

Pros: I have owned this board since I build my PC in 2011. It has worked just fine and never had a major issue. I have been running my PC overclocked to between 4.4 and 4.8 GHz for this whole time without major problems. I've upgraded fans, SSD and video card in this time and never encountered any major problems. The multiple temperature sensors really help for identifying areas that are warmer and adjusting your board's cooling effectively. It also looks pretty cool.

I have never had any blue screens while running a stable overclock. ( I had some at like 5 GHz but this is expected of course)

Cons: I never could get 2133 MHz memory to run fully stable although it isn't listed in the spec here. It would run but sometimes crash so I just toned it down to around 1700 MHz and it runs better and cooler anyways.

It really doesn't have enough of the higher speed SATA ports and such if you're planning a crazy setup.

The Mosfets got kinda hot on the top of the board, see below for my fix.

Other Thoughts: Some people mentioned the VRMs getting hot (the top edge of the board) I took a cooler that was originally a slot cooler for a PCI slot on an old PC and rigged this up to fit over the fins on the heatsinks. It lowered my temperatures about 15C at max load 24/7. Been running this for about 1.5 years with no problems related to heat or other issues.

5 out of 5 eggsgreat

Pros: all is up and running and what a great board. This board literately overclocks its self, and more. Lots of room for a cooler, however I used a couple of slim fans on my single loop. this would not be a problem if your case room at the top ro a double loop cooler. There is a a air cooler for the 2011 now that is made not to cover your memory lots, but if you going to over clock not been tested by me. Its a tower with one fan in between two heat sinks. Using 64 GB memory at 1866, and a 680 GPU. with 850w power supply. 4930K CPU and its very lightly overclocked. I took it up 30% and never even bother to test it for stability. teps all under 50C.

Cons: This board was replaced twice before I got it to post all my memory 64 GBs but it was working just not posting all the memory I had installed so I finally changed the board for the third time with a CPU also, cant tell you which was bad the CPU or the boards. However should be obvious now should it not.

Other Thoughts: In my frustration I gave this board a one star and that was not fair so if you see that review please ignore it. Intel was great getting me a CPU overnight and new egg too replaced the board twice without making me wait for the old board to get back to them. So other than the obvious builders night mare this was an easy glitch thanks to New egg and intel. Asus was there usual no customer support at all, shame on them.

1 out of 5 eggsworks fine til u need to rma it

Pros: decent speedy motherboard, hyperduo works like a charm
holds 64gig quad channel memory just fine.

Cons: but if u plug in a 2.1 TB hd or larger into the marvel sata 2.0 ports..the motherboard may die on u, it happened to me.
rma service is a joke, they misplaced it for 2 weeks, had "worked" on it for 2 weeks. then returned with damaged cpu socket pins and voided my 5yr warranty after 1.2yrs of usage.
they must use some sort of stamp to damage the pins cause i've seen pics of other asus returned motherboards that went thru rma back to the users with bent pins and voided warranties...they all look the same. i did a fine look into the socket area, it's not only having bent's missing a few too. i think it woulda been better if asus released a bios patch to disable problem areas instead of causing users to crash their systems and deal with rma nightmares.

general note for other buyers...look at all the reviews...both good and bad and see if u have the money to waste on this.

Other Thoughts: i just wish corsair made least with them u get free replacement. i was nearly broke after saving up my money to build a system i was hoping it was to last 5yrs at least.
now i had to borrow money to find an alternate brand of motherboard.(shame abit went under, their mobo's still work to this day). and why did intel have to change the 2011 socket pattern for new generation cpu's.

2 out of 5 eggsGood motherboard but hope it never breaks.

Pros: Good motherboard with good features.

Cons: Horrible customer service. My board went bad and tried to get a RMA. First off it's difficult to figure out how to RMA an item and actually have to contact them. After that they gave me the run around. They kept giving me troubleshooting advice which was nice if I hadn't done that already and eventually they ended up trying to get me to check the same parts again. Finally they accepted my RMA. Sent it in and got one back. The same one back and my board is still under warranty.

Other Thoughts: Asus boards are nice and so is this one but be wary of their customer service.

1 out of 5 eggs"5 Year Warranty" Is Useless, Buyer BEWARE

Pros: Excellent mobo when it was working.

Cons: ASUS's warranty is useless.

Other Thoughts: I got this mobo 2 years ago and had absolutely no problems with it. A few weeks ago, Windows installed some updates and wanted to restart. I restarted my computer and I got no video to my monitor. After much troubleshooting, I found out it was the mobo that was causing the issue. I immediately contacted ASUS, got a RMA number and removed my mobo. I checked it over thoroughly and made sure no CPU pins were bent (they were all flawless) and everything was in order. (The RMA info says to make sure the cpu pins are protected) I packaged the mobo better than what it was boxed in brand new and mailed it off. A few days later I got an email from ASUS saying that I owed them $160 for a new MOBO. $10 was for shipping and $150 was for "bent CPU pins" and "water damage" which is not covered under their warranty. I have NEVER had any open containers of liquid near my computer and have NEVER had any liquid spill near it. Like I said about the cpu pins, none were bent and I went overkill on the padding, bubble wrap, cardboard, etc. in the box. I immediately called ASUS to make sure what I was reading was correct and they told me it was. I told them how I never had any liquid near my pc and how the cpu pins were fine when I shipped it off and the guy i was talking to basically called me a liar and said he couldn't help me at all. I found a link on the RMA email to dispute this case. I went ahead and did so and told them everything i'm telling you here. It has been 48 hours and I still have no response from them yet. Although I have received another email from them saying how I have to pay before a specific date and that date has passed.... This makes me furious that a company that I trusted and loved would do this to a loyal customer. I can tell you for a fact that I will never buy another ASUS product again because they will not stand by their warranty. I would have gave this mobo 5 eggs but instead I gave this 1 egg because what good is a product and warranty if the company does not stand by it. Buyer beware when it comes to ASUS products and their warranty.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks fine, don't get scared off by reviews

Pros: - After 4 builds with these, they've all worked just fine
- Extra 2 SATA ports over other boards w/this chipset
- Auto fan controls work well

Cons: The one small thing I can knock against this board is the thick pad that's on the rear panel piece that attaches to the case. It can be a pain to get the board to line up properly, but still its barely a knock...

See notes below about Corsair liquid coolers with Corsair link issues if you want to use Corsair link.

Other Thoughts: After reading a LOT of reviews on a LOT of motherboards, I've realized that upwards of 50% of reviewers are typically negative because they got a bad board and those are the people that are more likely to write in. The bottom line is, thousands of these boards have been sold and are working just fine, whether from newegg or other sources! Some are bad; it happens.

This has become my standard board for a build I do for a niche business. My build consists of:

- i7-4930K run at stock clock speeds (this CPU still runs toasty!)
- H100i liquid cooler, which I connect to the two CPU fans on board
- 64GB of g.skill 1866 quad channel
- 2 x SSDs connected to the Intel SATA 3 ports (no RAID)
- 3 x HDDs connected to the Intel SATA 2 ports (RAID5)
- A 3rd party PCI-e RAID controller (LSI, IO Crest, etc) for extra SATA devices (hot swap bays, etc)
- Video card of the day

The 1st couple builds I used Corsair Vengeance 1866 memory and the board didn't like it at first. However, after utilizing the MEM OK button on the board, POOF, the board picked up all 64GB and after applying the XMP profile all was timed correctly. I'm now using G.Skill 1866 and the board picks it up right out of the gate.

The H100i (and H80i) issue I have with Corsair Link software is interesting. I have no problems on my ASRock Z77 build in my personal rig. On this board the Corsair link software will not see the pump or fans when there are any other USB connections in use on the board's internal USB 2.0 connectors. After taking to google this is a common issue across many mobos so I'm not blaming the board. If you want to use Corsair link then take this in to account. There's a reg hack for win8.1 that may fix this but I don't know as I'm running win7 pro x64. I connect the fans to the CPU fan headers and this board controls them well.

I didn't have to update the BIOS on any of these out of the factory. The first couple were built around July 2013.

I'm not overclocking on these but the BIOS has everything you could ever desire to do so. This board is designed for overclocking and cooling, AND they still put a 5yr warranty on it.

AI suite is "ok" but it monitors CPU temp by the on board CPU sensor which reads at least 10 degrees cooler than actual core temps. Its annoying. Most enthusiasts uninstall it to my knowledge.

If you want save a few bucks (upwards of $100) and have basically the same board (minus a powered eSATA port and additional 2 Marvel controlled SATA3's) I'd recommend the P9X79 LE.

I've just built on this board multiple times, its been rock solid, fits my needs and the warranty makes it right for me. Don't be scared off by the DOA & RMA reviewers. If it doesn't work when you get it, swap it with newegg and get a new one. Every single manufacturer out there will have bad boards hit people's doorsteps; it happens.
