Pros: This board worked for about 13 months.

Cons: The board died 30 days after their Rapid Replacement policy ended. ASUS does NOT care about their customers. They would NOT issue me a new board in under 2 weeks. They did not understand that this machine was not my son's game console. This is a server board and was purchased by a business counting this board working. 2 weeks, 3 RMA's later and over 8 hours cumulative on the phone with ASUS, I still do not have a working replacement motherboard.

Other Thoughts: Do not buy this motherboard. The support of a server board is just as important as the board itself. ASUS' support is the worst I've ever dealt with. I am rebuilding this machine around a different board.

Manufacturer Response:

I apologize for the issues you have had thus far. When you have the time, please contact me through email as I may have a solution in this matter. Thank you, and have a great day. 3616272.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid, Stable, Fast

Pros: Was the smoothest computer building experience I ever had!
Absolutely no problems. I just stuck all the parts together, turned it on and now I am in business.

Loaded it with:
2 Xeon e5-2680 v2 (10 core @ 2.80ghz)
32 GB of g.skill (See other thoughts below)
Samsung 250 GB SSD
1 EVGA GTX 780 Ti
Corsair Obsidian 750D Black ATX Full Tower
Cooler Master V1000 - 1000W Power Supply
2 x Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO - CPU Cooler

My cinebench score for this build is 2643 and cost roughly $5,500

(The fastest 12core mac pro cb score is only 1370 and costs just under $10,000) ouch!

Cons: Not even one. No BSODs, or Issues whatsoever. Everything worked and quite frankly It was the smoothest computer building experience anyone could ever hope for.

Other Thoughts: Use this Memory for this board:

G.SKILL Ripjaws Z Series 16GB (4 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9Q-16GBZL

I see people complaining and writing bad reviews, this will save you the trouble they had

5 out of 5 eggsGreat board, not for novices

Pros: This is a great board for both desktop, workstation, and server users. It allows up to 256GB of memory, way more than what most people could ever use. 4 way SLI / crossfire support, dual xeons.

Cons: Expensive, could use more ram slots (other companies with dual cpu boards often have 16 slots). Needs a lot of power.

Other Thoughts: This is now my 4th build using this board. I have not had any problems with any of the boards I own. The latest configuration has 256GB of DDR3 1600 Samsung memory, dual 2697 v2's, 1 Quaddro card, and 3 Tesla cards.
When I read these reviews, I feel that many people exaggerate their actual knowledge of installing boards and building systems using a workstation or server board. I find that the components they use are not workstation or server oriented, but in many case, are general use or overclockable gaming ram. Folks, if you are going to build a system with this board, you need a big power supply, preferably over 1200 watts. I also strongly recommend using server memory, mainly ECC registered memory for optimal compatibility. Make sure you have good ventilation as well.
This is a great board, I just think the majority of the people who leave negative reviews overestimate their ability to build a system and then blame the board for when they make a mistake. They also use parts that should be be used more in conventional desktop systems. I've literally built more than a thousand systems in my lifetime and over the years maybe had a total of 20 boards that were bad. I admit there were a few that accidently got damaged by me, and the rest were either dead or unstable. But the most important thing you can do is research. Read the board's manual in detail and learn about all of its features BEFORE you buy it! Can't stress that enough.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent board

Pros: Dual socket LGA 2011 board. Expansion to the moon if you wish. More bells and whistles then any would actually use.

Cons: Not for the novice. If you are looking at this and wondering why you need it, then you don't. Save your money and time and look elsewhere.

1 out of 5 eggsPiece of junk

Pros: Good board when it works, one of the few available Dual CPU 2011 builds that supports work-station capabilities.

Cons: On my second RMA now. My first board failed within the first month. Got a refurbished replacement from ASUS that was defective from day one. One of the memory slots was bad. But I dealt with it because rebuilding is such a major pain in the rear. I kept using the board for about at year and was relatively stable. Now the second board just completely failed again. And I'm going through the second RMA process. They will NOT give me a new board, they insist on doing a repair which is a BIG inconvenience (and much more likely to have future problems!)

Other Thoughts: ASUS makes VERY POORLY MADE motherboards. Stay away, find another vendor!!

Manufacturer Response:

I am sorry that you are still having issues with the motherboard. If I may, I would like to help. Please contact me through email, and we can discuss this case further. Within the email, please include the serial number of the motherboard. Your reference number for this case is 3428774.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat board

Pros: Every option you could want on an expensive motherboard.
Board came with latest bios (5304) already installed.
Zero problems with install

Cons: I was scared from the negative reviews here that I was wasting a lot of money, but it worked out well.

Other Thoughts: Very pleased with this board and the configuration I purchased for it. Here are the specs:

Thermaltake Toughpower Grand TPG-1200M
2x Intel Xeon E5-2650 v2 Ivy Bridge
2x Kingston 32GB (4 x 8GB) DDR3 1600 ECC KVR16R11D4K4/32I
SAMSUNG 840 Pro Series MZ-7PD512BW 512GB
2x Noctua NH-U9DXi4 90mm SSO2 CPU Cooler
Microsoft Windows 8.1 Pro - 64-bit
Cooler Master HAF X (Two holes do not line up with any of the ATX configs. I drilled two holes in the plate to all the motherboard risers to rest on the case)

5 out of 5 eggsGreat board for experienced users

Pros: This is a very feature rich board. Allows for up to 256GB of ram, plenty of SATA ports for storage, lots of USB ports. Allows for 4 way SLI or Crossfire. Has the capability to overclock, also allows for memory timing adjustments. Supports the latest 10 and 12 core xeons!

Cons: In order to access battery, the first graphics card has to be removed. Access to CMOS reset jumper somewhat difficult, once again, removal of card in slot is necessary to access. More than 8 ram slots would be nice.

Other Thoughts: Based on all the reviews I've read here, I think many are deceiving themselves into thinking this is just an ordinary motherboard to install. It isn't. This is a full blown dual processor workstation server board. These boards need and use a lot of power and a big power supply is necessary. I've been building single and dual processor systems for many years now, and the dual processor ones require extra care. It is very important that you check compatibility with everything that you install. While this board does support regular DDR3, I found the best compatibility is to use ECC registered server memory. I use 128GB in here myself using 8 16GB Samsung DDR3 1600 ECC Reg. I use 3 GTX 780 ti's in SLI, and an Areca raid card in the last and bottom slot.
This board is not for a novice. For those of you who claim to be experts, I seriously question that in some cases. Be sure you read the manual as well as other online documentation and reviews before getting a board of this caliber.

1 out of 5 eggsI have 2 of these sadly

Pros: How can a product that doesn't work as advertised have any pros. IT DOESN'T WORK!

Cons: Manufacture being the biggest con.
Asus will not help you with this product guys. They do not care about you and they just want your $.
I have 2 of these boards with the same problems. If I add anything over 12gbs of memory the computer will not load windows. I get a pixelated screen or BSOD's

Ive tried 3 different memory kits (from the compatible list)
2 different processors
3 different video cards
2 different hard drives
cleared the cmos multiple times
build the computer outside the case bought a 2nd system board and have the same exact problems updated the bios on one, didn't update it on the other. no difference
Ive tried server 2008 r2, windows 7 64, and windows 8 64
Ive been able to install windows on 1 stick of ram and install all drivers the most recent drivers, BSOD when putting memory back in.
Chat support does not help and usually before I am even done explaining my issue I am disconnected. They did take one of the boards for over a month and sent it back without doing anything. Newegg refused to return or replace either after 30 days (30 days spent trying to get the product to work as advertised).

Other Thoughts: Thanks Asus and Newegg. Now my company is out $1200 and our new videographer does not have a functional computer.

I am done buying Asus for the rest of my life and will spend the rest of my IT career telling others how terrible their products and support can be.

5 out of 5 eggsA Lesson on QVLs

Pros: This board will power a machine exactly as powerful as you'd expect from the components that can be combined on it.

After having the board properly configured, it has run flawlessly.

Cons: Very narrow range of acceptable components to build a functioning unit. Requires a very generous amount of power to function properly. Mounting holes do not all align to stock E-ATX holes in a Corsair 750D. Required several small bits of tape to ensure no contact between motherboard tray and the second CPU 8-Pin Power.

Other Thoughts: Would not post with both CPUs installed without ECC Ram. Hung on Q-Code BC.

Shipped with BIOS 5103. Had to update with an old Xeon chip as that would have also prevent it from booting on newer E5 chips.

Currently running:
2x E5-2690 V2
8x KVR16R11D4K4 Kingston 8Gb ECC Registered DDR3 1600
EVGA GTX 780 Classified

Note: the Noctua DH-14 will cover PCI-E slot 1 unless configured with fans facing parallel to the slot. Even then the heatsink on Socket 0 will protrude into the region that would be occupied by a larger video card. It appears that the heatpipes may be able to be bent slightly to move it out of the way, but I have not tried yet.

1 out of 5 eggsLooks pretty, just don't ask it to do anything

Pros: 2 CPU Slots

Cons: Bought 2 of these boards, and both boxes had the same issue. They randomly freeze and only recover when you bounce the box. BIOS came with ver3206 already (3109 was supposed to fix the NVRAM Hang issue). Updated one board to 5109 and now it constantly BSOD. Tech support? Proven useless. The first rep responded to my request for help with "Sure, try that?" when I asked how to rollback the BIOS. None of their tools work for flashing the BIOS, and none of them respond when I give detailed errors messages.

I have two other boxes running ASUS Sabertooth, and they have been rock solid for years.

Oh, and the ASUS support website times out while waiting for a response from a support tech, says session canceled do to no user response.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

I apologize for the customer support you have received thus far. I would like to help if I can. Have you confirmed that the CPU used is compatible with the motherboard?
