1 out of 5 eggsTerrible Board

Pros: None

Cons: Terrible Sata controller, Bus from GPU to Memory is terribly slow. This workstation board runs slower than my 600 dollar i5 dell with windows 7. I ordered 3 of these boards for rendering both 3D and Open GL 4.0. Absolutely terrible. Even at 8.0 GT/s... never using ASUS again. wasted $2000

Other Thoughts: Asus has the worse Technical support. They are Naive.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA

Pros: Good feature set
Supports ES chips on older bios versions

Cons: DOA board
Paid shipping both ways for defunct product
Very pricey

Other Thoughts: This board was 100% DOA on arrival. I was forced to pay shipping both ways, which seems unfair. Afterwards, I purchased an Asrock EP2C602-4L/D16, which has better features for a far lower price, and it worked perfectly right out of the box. I purchase a LOT of hardware for an internet-based business, including consumer and server-grade motherboards. I haven't had the greatest luck with ASUS products, and in general try to steer clear. I know other have had better experiences, but my take is ASUS is great at marketing and perhaps not as great at producing reliable products. Take that for what it is worth. I highly recommend ASRock for both server and consumer grade.

1 out of 5 eggsDoesn't work with UEFI, numerous problems with setup (0E, 0D errors)

Pros: Could be a great board and a supreme dual-CPU board for desktop, but has an incredibly bad BIOS and options for UEFI support.

Cons: May seem to be a great board, and I can make it work, but purports to be a UEFI supporting board and its support and BIOS are awful. With the latest BIOS, using approved processors and RAM (from the approved vendor list) and an ASUS video card also with its latest upgrades, the board loses its ability to enter BIOS setup if you turn on UEFI, with an unexplained and undocumented 0D error. On a reboot, fails with a 0E microcode error. Seems to be a BIOS issue, not a hardware problem. To the person who says that it's an issue with not understanding how to do the build, that is false with respect to UEFI. It is probably a great board in legacy mode, but in UEFI mode it faceplants. At this moment I can boot into Windows 7 with UEFI but I can't reboot without dropping power, and if I want to get into BIOS setup I will have to clear the CMOS and completely reconfigure (twice).

Pros: This board worked for about 13 months.

Cons: The board died 30 days after their Rapid Replacement policy ended. ASUS does NOT care about their customers. They would NOT issue me a new board in under 2 weeks. They did not understand that this machine was not my son's game console. This is a server board and was purchased by a business counting this board working. 2 weeks, 3 RMA's later and over 8 hours cumulative on the phone with ASUS, I still do not have a working replacement motherboard.

Other Thoughts: Do not buy this motherboard. The support of a server board is just as important as the board itself. ASUS' support is the worst I've ever dealt with. I am rebuilding this machine around a different board.

Manufacturer Response:

I apologize for the issues you have had thus far. When you have the time, please contact me through email as I may have a solution in this matter. Thank you, and have a great day. 3616272.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid, Stable, Fast

Pros: Was the smoothest computer building experience I ever had!
Absolutely no problems. I just stuck all the parts together, turned it on and now I am in business.

Loaded it with:
2 Xeon e5-2680 v2 (10 core @ 2.80ghz)
32 GB of g.skill (See other thoughts below)
Samsung 250 GB SSD
1 EVGA GTX 780 Ti
Corsair Obsidian 750D Black ATX Full Tower
Cooler Master V1000 - 1000W Power Supply
2 x Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO - CPU Cooler

My cinebench score for this build is 2643 and cost roughly $5,500

(The fastest 12core mac pro cb score is only 1370 and costs just under $10,000) ouch!

Cons: Not even one. No BSODs, or Issues whatsoever. Everything worked and quite frankly It was the smoothest computer building experience anyone could ever hope for.

Other Thoughts: Use this Memory for this board:

G.SKILL Ripjaws Z Series 16GB (4 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9Q-16GBZL

I see people complaining and writing bad reviews, this will save you the trouble they had

5 out of 5 eggsGreat board, not for novices

Pros: This is a great board for both desktop, workstation, and server users. It allows up to 256GB of memory, way more than what most people could ever use. 4 way SLI / crossfire support, dual xeons.

Cons: Expensive, could use more ram slots (other companies with dual cpu boards often have 16 slots). Needs a lot of power.

Other Thoughts: This is now my 4th build using this board. I have not had any problems with any of the boards I own. The latest configuration has 256GB of DDR3 1600 Samsung memory, dual 2697 v2's, 1 Quaddro card, and 3 Tesla cards.
When I read these reviews, I feel that many people exaggerate their actual knowledge of installing boards and building systems using a workstation or server board. I find that the components they use are not workstation or server oriented, but in many case, are general use or overclockable gaming ram. Folks, if you are going to build a system with this board, you need a big power supply, preferably over 1200 watts. I also strongly recommend using server memory, mainly ECC registered memory for optimal compatibility. Make sure you have good ventilation as well.
This is a great board, I just think the majority of the people who leave negative reviews overestimate their ability to build a system and then blame the board for when they make a mistake. They also use parts that should be be used more in conventional desktop systems. I've literally built more than a thousand systems in my lifetime and over the years maybe had a total of 20 boards that were bad. I admit there were a few that accidently got damaged by me, and the rest were either dead or unstable. But the most important thing you can do is research. Read the board's manual in detail and learn about all of its features BEFORE you buy it! Can't stress that enough.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent board

Pros: Dual socket LGA 2011 board. Expansion to the moon if you wish. More bells and whistles then any would actually use.

Cons: Not for the novice. If you are looking at this and wondering why you need it, then you don't. Save your money and time and look elsewhere.

1 out of 5 eggsPiece of junk

Pros: Good board when it works, one of the few available Dual CPU 2011 builds that supports work-station capabilities.

Cons: On my second RMA now. My first board failed within the first month. Got a refurbished replacement from ASUS that was defective from day one. One of the memory slots was bad. But I dealt with it because rebuilding is such a major pain in the rear. I kept using the board for about at year and was relatively stable. Now the second board just completely failed again. And I'm going through the second RMA process. They will NOT give me a new board, they insist on doing a repair which is a BIG inconvenience (and much more likely to have future problems!)

Other Thoughts: ASUS makes VERY POORLY MADE motherboards. Stay away, find another vendor!!

Manufacturer Response:

I am sorry that you are still having issues with the motherboard. If I may, I would like to help. Please contact me through email, and we can discuss this case further. Within the email, please include the serial number of the motherboard. Your reference number for this case is 3428774.
