5 out of 5 eggsMakes a great HTPC MOBO

Pros: Great overall quality Micro ATX motherboard. ROG gamer board and overall Asus makes the best motherboards. Quick boot with my Corsair Neutron 64gb SSD running windows 7.

Cons: NONE

Other Thoughts: I am using this MOBO as part of my HTPC using a SILVERSTONE Black Aluminum / Steel Grandia Series SST-GD08B ATX Media Center / HTPC Case. Fitting nice and snug with plenty of room to spare.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks find, install not easy

Pros: Works Fine

Cons: Install was a problem. The first-line tech support was lousy. I returned the first one and got a replacement. Same problem. I was ready to return the second when a higher tier tech support person identified the problem and it was booting within 20 minutes. Works fine ever since.

1 out of 5 eggsDevil in a red dress.

Pros: None. Been through 3 of these things. Throwing in the towel. Sorry Asus, but the ROG label on this thing doesn't hide the HIDEOUS truth.

Cons: I really wanted to like this board, always had good experiences with Asus products. The first board was great and really boosted the performance of my 3770, until it just decided to stop posting. It turned out 2 of the 4 ram slots were bad, which isn't something that normally "just happens" as a result of everyday use. This board is plagued with manufacturing errors, and a seeming lack of quality assurance. The warranty is worthless unless it is a blatant issue like bent pins or a DOA board, you're out of luck, they'll tell you its your fault and you have to pay for a replacement.

Other Thoughts: This is the last ROG board I will EVER willingly spend my hard earned money on. Spent more time down than up. First board lasted about 6 months and died while system was sitting idle. Got a replacement under warranty. Replacement board died within a month or so. RMA'd it and they told me it was physically damaged and it was my fault and it wouldn't be covered under warranty. (say what???) So i had to BUY another one (big mistake) this one died from a power surge which isn't covered by warranty either, so now I'm stuck with no PC and no way in hell am I putting another Maximus V Gene in there. I can't afford to keep pumping 200 bucks into my computer every few weeks, I'm trying to save up for a wedding and a house here guys!!!

1 out of 5 eggsWould never buy again

Pros: None - Not Reliable

Cons: I had this board for about 3 weeks when the first one died. Literally wouldn't boot anymore.

The 2nd board lasted about 2 1/2 months.

Fed up with Asus right now. I'll most likely sell the replacement and move on.

1 out of 5 eggsCODE 55 Memory Error RMA still same issue

Pros: looks nice, innovative features while they work

Cons: where do I start , randomly the board woudn't boot. on looking a error read out on motherboard it shows a code 55 . I changed the cpu swapped out the ram still same issue. the board would not start up in dual channel memory configuration. When I only put a single stick it would work fine sent board for RMA $15 shipping cost still same issue code 55. ASUS repair team didn't fix anything.

Other Thoughts: This is last time asus gets my money no matter how innovative the product is its garbage if it has flaws and there is no support.

This is a know among forums on this board . Board randomly would give you code 55 and wont post unless you run ram in single channel configuration.

I feel like I have been robbed. But i learned my lesson . I am going to file a complaint with BBB and also file c/o with Consumer Affairs for breach of warranty T & C as is in not properly honoring warranty.

Manufacturer Response:

5 out of 5 eggsmATX ROG Motherboard

Pros: For an mATX motherboard, has a well designed layout and spacing for all the components. The color scheme is very nice and the heatsinks look industrial. Supports up to 2 way SLI/XFIRE.

Digital readout is one of the main features I wanted, in case there was a problem, the motherboard will display two digits to quickly identify any problems.

Hotwire points for physical voltage readouts, nice to have for extreme overclocking, but not usefull for anyone not doing LN2.

Testbench START/RESTART buttons on the motherboard.

Supreme FX sound card onboard with REDLINE to separate it from any interference. A nice feature to have, not many motherboards have onboard sound of this quality.

Cons: None so far. If you needed a full sized motherboard you should have bought one.

Other Thoughts: Perfect size for my first build:
-Corsair 350D
-i5 3570K
-Corsair Vengeance Pro 1866 CL9 1.5V
-EVGA GTX 660ti FTW 2GB Signature 2

4 out of 5 eggsGood, BUT

Pros: This board has AMAZING OC features and the BIOS are top notch. No updates needed out of the box, and once I got everything working it was flawless... However, see cons!

Cons: Had to re-seat the i5 3570k CPU about 5 times to get the board to post. This may be the cause of many of the people who say this board was DOA. The CPU socket has enough edge-play that if it's not sitting EXACTLY right it won't post and will give various errors (00,15,30) on the display.

Also, it WILL blue screen if you use both a USB wireless networking controller and connect to a wired network at the same time. The packet-shaping software, IMHO, needs work.

Other Thoughts: Once I got it working, I took this setup to the MIllion Man LAN in Kentucky, and played every game at Ultra with NO slowdowns. Overclocked i5 3570k to 4.2 ghz on stock cooling and left it running for 4 days straight, no issues. This board is the real deal for gamers!

4 out of 5 eggsNot bad

Pros: Board arrived in great condition. Always love Newegg's shipping service. Everything in the pictures was in the box and it all worked. Nothing felt flimsy.

Cons: The mPCIe Combo adapter came with the board, but I can't find anywhere to buy a wireless adapter that fits in the mPCIe. The ones on new egg are all bland-brands and wondering if ASUS makes the adapter why don't they make cards to go in them???

Other Thoughts: My only real grip is that mPCIe Combo. Other than that this board does well. I've not put any serious gaming loads on it yet, but I expect with how smooth its running, my i7 and it will tackle almost anything.

4 out of 5 eggsStrip away the ROG nonsense and its great

Pros: Good build quality, good features, Asus warranty is fairly reliable in my experience.

Cons: Aside from how everything ROG carries a price premium and oozes l33t G4m3r? none

Other Thoughts: I bought this board because my only other option for an MATX 1155 Z77 board was a G1 Sniper M3, and the only reason to pick that board over this one is the better onboard sound. In every other way the M3 is inferior.

So, im stuck with a board from a company I dont really like, and I paid a premium for features Ill never use.
But I didn't have a choice, so I have to be fair to the product.

Overall its solid, but I would like to see better components, fewer useless features, a lower price, and less marketing.
