3 out of 5 eggsDoes it's job well. Bad layout.

Pros: Very good at what you need if you're looking for a good H77 mobo and don't plan on overclocking. Nice UEFI and as simple to install as any other ATX mobo. As far as pros, can't really ask for anything more.

Cons: Layout of the expansion slots is horrible. If you're installing a double wide video card in the PCIe 3.0 16x slot, you can say bye bye to one of the 1x slots. That leaves you with only the other 3.0 1x slot and the other 2.0 16x slot. And 3 fairly useless PCI slots. They could have layed it out so that you lose the PCI slot, or even better, put the 3.0 16x slot at the very end so that you use the unused extra slot that most cases have.

So in the end, you really have only 2 usable PCIe slots after installing a video card. Not really good unless you need a 56k modem or an old sound card for some reason.

2 out of 5 eggsintel layout sucks

Pros: middling

Cons: i do not understand why there is no one screaming about the atrocious layout of intel motherboards. both x1 slots are crammed right next to the x16 slot so you lose both, one to duel slot gpu and the other to thermal wash. besides the other x16 slot, the rest of the board is pci slots, soo, go 56k modems!

only 2 sata 6g, 4 usb 3.0.

Other Thoughts: are there any decent intel motherboards under $150? nah, bad layout and little or no usb 3.0 and sata 6 support.

half your expansion slots are unusable with duel slot gpu and ancient pci slots.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We're sorry to hear that the motherboard does not meet your layout requirements. The first PCIe x1 slot is available to use if you use a dual-slot graphics card on the PCIe x16.

If you're looking for a board that has more PCIe x1 slots, SATA 6.0Gb/s ports, USB 3.0 ports, please consider the Sabertooth Z77 as it has 3 PCIe x1 slots, 4 SATA 6.0 Gb/s ports, and 6 USB 3.0 ports. You may also browse through our offerings at http://www.asus.com/motherboard, view the images for layout and specifications page on the number of ports and features that meet your needs.

Benson

1 out of 5 eggsNo USB3 for Win XP ?

Pros: Good product

Cons: Bad description. Leaves out lack of usb3 support for XP.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We apologize for the confusion regarding requirements for USB 3.0. Unfortunately, USB 3.0 is supported on Windows 7 and later versions, not Windows XP.

1 out of 5 eggs2 boards - no luck

Pros: I don't have any as neither board I got worked for me.

Cons: Got the board, put in my cpu and other components, booted it up and nothing. I checked the other components and then sent the motherboard back to Newegg. RMA took three or four days and they said it was user error because the pins were bent. I made a fuss and Newegg said they would send me another board. The customer service rep said this would be it as they thought I damaged the first one. I got the 2nd board and same thing happened to me. I took to my local shop and paid for diagnostic. They confirmed the board was bad. I put the cpu in properly both times. I am not sure if Newegg sent me the first board back or if I got two bad boards in a row.

Other Thoughts: Too much bad luck for me. I will buy a different brand than ASUS and I will go through another company. I have bought stuff from Newegg for well over 5 years and this was my first return. I don't appreciate being told I messed up the board when I inserted the CPU properly and I really don't enjoy being threatened that this is my last chance when they send me another board.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear valued Customer,

We apologize for the issue you had with the motherboard.

Regarding the damaged socket pins, you can RMA the motherboard to us for repair. Unfortunately this type of damage is not covered under warranty and there will be a cost to have it repaired--we will replace the entire socket. To RMA the motherboard, please visit: http://vip.asus.com/eservice/usa_rmaserv.aspx or call 1-812-282-2787.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA

Pros: None

Cons: Dead on arrival

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We apologize for the issue you had with the motherboard.

If you're having trouble getting to POST, please try the following:

Please make sure to check the power connections, specifically the 24-pin and 8-pin/4-pin. Have you tried using another power supply?

Can you check if your CPU is compatible with the BIOS version the motherboard was shipped with? Click here for a list of CPU's supported by BIOS version: http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Intel_Socket_1155/P8H77V/#CPUS

Some memory kits are not compatible with the motherboard. To ensure that memory will work with the motherboard, please try to obtain memory from our Qualified Vendors List (QVL. Downloadable from the product page). Also, try pressing the MemOK! button after you power on the system to load the default fail-safe settings of the memory. Your system may cycle several times during this process.

If you use onboard video outputs on the motherboard such as HDMI/DVI/VGA, can you check if your CPU has integrated graphics capability? Please visit http://ark.intel.com to check whether your CPU has onboard HD 2000, HD 3000, HD 4000 graphics. If using discrete graphics, does the video card fan spin at power on?

Clear CMOS. Turn off the computer. Turn the switch on the back of the power supply to OFF, or unplug from the outlet. On the lower right corner of the motherboard is a jumper marked "CLRTC", move the jumper from positions 1 and 2 to 2 and 3. Wait about 10 seconds, and move the jumper back to positions 1 and 2. Power on the computer.

Try to plugging a system speaker to the 4-pin speaker connector (lower right corner) and monitor if any beeps that occur when you turn on the computer.

1 long beep and 2 short beeps = memory
1 long beep and 3 short beeps = VGA
1 long beep and 4 short beeps = hardware component

If you still having trouble getting the motherboard to POST, please contact me at cl-benson@asus.com reference #C1037-4670.

Benson

1 out of 5 eggsNo SLI, No overclocking

Pros: Good motherboard, bios and setup is well done

Cons: No SLI.... No overclocking, would be nice if they put this is details page.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

The P8H77-V suports ATI Quad-GPU CrossFireX, not SLI. This information can be found on the motherboard specifications page.

We do have a number of options to allow overclocking such as adjustments to vCore, vCCSA, vDRAM Bus, vPCH, iGPU, vCPU_PLL, BCLK/PCIE, as well as ASUS CPR for overclocking protection.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Mobo

Pros: Solid board. Nice looking heat sinks. Neat BIOS.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: This mobo will not let you over clock your processor! Get the Z77 for that!

Don't forget to press the "Mem OK" button when you first set it up so it gets the ram timings right.
