Great for HTPC or an ultra compact PC, the ASUS P8H77-I motherboard delivers the best-in-class technology and features as well as proven ASUS quality in a Mini ITX form factor. Based on the Intel H77 Express chipset and equipped with 2x DDR3 memory slots and a PCIe 3.0 x16 slot, this motherboard guarantees uncompromised flexibility and expandability for mainstream Intel 3rd Gen. Core platform, along with HDMI and S/PDIF optical output for premium audio/video quality. Take advantage of ASUS exclusive innovations such as GPU Boost, USB 3.0 Boost and Network iControl for better experience on your next PC build. This motherboard is also Windows 8 ready and enables amazingly fast boot-up with hardware and software optimization.

  • newegg Optimized for Windows 8 ASUS has released new hardware and software designs to shorten system boot-up time to 2-seconds (for reference only) for a smoother user experience that removes annoying delays under Windows 8, and even previous versions of Windows. Faster system boot and restart means Windows starts quicker and more efficiently - no more waiting around. Thanks to ASUS Windows 8 hardware optimization, ASUS Boot Setting provides better flexibility in customizing your PC's start-up process. You can enter the BIOS directly with one click through a user-friendly interface, and quickly select your preferred system boot up method: either get to the OS in seconds or opt for regular boot up. Whatever your choice, settings are saved and persistent, with no need to choose every time you power on.
  • newegg Intel Smart Response Technology Intel Smart Response Technology boosts overall system performance. It uses an installed fast SSD (min 18.6GB available capacity required) as a cache for frequently accessed data. Key benefits include reduced load and wait times, and lower power consumption through the elimination of unnecessary hard drive spin. This technology combines SSD performance with hard drive capacity, operating up to six times faster than a hard drive-only system.
  • newegg Network iControl With a single-click on/off button, the application currently in use has its data and network bandwidth prioritized over other programs. Moreover, you can prioritize your favorite software easily by configuring profiles through the intuitive user interface. Within the profile, programs can be pre-scheduled to run in a specific time period to avoid network congestion and long-waits on downloads. Auto PPPoE network connection provides a one-step setup for enhanced online convenience. Overall, it's an intuitive network bandwidth control center.
  • newegg GPU Boost GPU Boost accelerates the integrated GPU for extreme graphics performance. The user-friendly interface facilitates flexible frequency adjustments. It easily delivers stable system-level upgrades for every use.
  • newegg USB 3.0 Boost ASUS USB 3.0 Boost technology supports UASP (USB Attached SCSI Protocol), the latest USB 3.0 standard. With USB 3.0 Boost technology, a USB device's transmission speed is significantly increased up to 170%, adding to an already impressive fast USB 3.0 transfer speed. ASUS software automatically accelerates data speeds for compatible USB 3.0 peripherals without the need for any user interaction.
  • newegg Fan Xpert ASUS Fan Xpert intelligently allows you to adjust the CPU and chassis fan speeds according to different ambient temperatures caused by climate conditions in varying geographic regions and according to your PC’s loading. The built-in variety of useful profiles offer flexible controls of fan speed to achieve a quiet and cool environment.

4 out of 5 eggsBig board features on a matchbook.

Pros: Well laid out for such a small size and performs like it's big brothers in the Asus line. Nice board. It's small.

Cons: Only 2 RAM slots. Putting a large cooling device on the board might be a problem. Only has two fan headers. It's small.

Other Thoughts: Wanted a small board with big power, good performance and a reasonable price. It satisfied all my requirements. Easy build

4 out of 5 eggsIve got 2 of these...

Pros: So I bought 2 of these (both openbox especial, both work like a champ) the first one I got for purposes of running a FreeNAS box, Ive got 6 spindles on this rig set up as a raid zpool2 (ZFS'aneese for Raid6) and at my house it works great with CIFS transfers topping out ~600mbps with 2 sessions going at the same time, more than 2 concurrent sessions gets a bit questionable depending (Im thinking I might able to get it a bit faster more consistently & more sessions with more memory?)

6 spindles in RAID6 with 3terb disks will getcha to 10.7terb's

Build:
This board
Intel G620
16gb GSkill Sniper RAM (2x8)
(6) 3Terb WB Red drives (These format to 2.7 Terb each with ZFS)
Garden variety USB Jumpdrive (Boot OS)
Fractal Design Node 304 case

Cons: Ok, so if I could change any 3 things on here...

Its got a realtek ethernet interface, for my purposes I would be happier if it were Intel...

If only it had 1 more sata interface, then I could use all 6 drive positions on the MiniITX case Ive got this in & then also have a SSD hanging around on the inside for ZIL caching

Ability to run double the ram (Yea, I realize Im dreaming a lil here... :/ )

On motherboard USB port (As in, like... inside the case) would be nice too (Yea, I realize this makes 4 n' I only said 3, but... you get the idea :P)

Like I say, I realize Im dreaming a lil at this point -But... for its purpose its a good board, I dont believe there are other M-ITX boards with as high of a SATA port density?

Other Thoughts: So I realize that its a northbridge limitation -But...

3gbps SATA & USB2.0 ?!?!? Yea, lets get rid of them already Intel n' Just make EVERYTHING 6gbps SATA & USB3.0!

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Board

Pros: 6 SATA Ports (4 II's, 2 III's)
USB 3.0
Low power usage
HDMI, DVI, and D-SUB

Cons: It would be nice to have an identicle board but with Dual Gbit NICS, and two more SATA ports.

Other Thoughts: I hvae this board with 16GB (8GBX2) DDR3 1600 Running @ 1600. An Intel 3470T, a plextor 128GB SATA III SSD, and no video card. Win 7 Index is
7.4 for CPU, 7.7 for RAM, 6.4 Aero, 6.5 Gaming, and 7.9HDD. On top of that it only uses 81 watts an hour running 100% load over 5 hours of testing. 42 Watts Idle, and 4 Watts suspend to RAM sleep mode. To top it off it is in a case smaller than a medium Flat rate USPS box. Perfect HTPC.

1 out of 5 eggsStay away (from Asus)

Pros: Nice motherboard for the price with a nice set of features.

Cons: Failed after ~6 weeks. CPU and case fans powered up, as did hard drive, but no audio or video output (GPU or onboard).

RMAed it early last week. It's been sitting at Asus' repair center for A WHOLE WEEK and the RMA status still says they're waiting to receive the product.

Every time I contact them I just get some garbage like "It's not unusual for packages to sit on our dock for a couple of days before they're keyed in". If I left a package sitting on my dock at work for ONE day I'd be fired so fast. Unacceptable.

Given that I've had similar ineptitude and hassle for the THREE times I had to RMA my Asus laptop I had before this PC, I can firmly suggest to STAY AWAY FROM ASUS. Unreliable products with support that's hardly even an afterthought.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

If you need status of repair, no need to call our support line. Just email me the requested information and I will be able to assist you throughout the RMA repair.

Have a great weekend.

Regards,
Jeffrey

1 out of 5 eggsDied after 6 weeks, support HORRIBLE.

Pros: Great form factor, good features, seemed to work well until it stopped working at all!

Cons: Motherboard appears to have failed after ~6 weeks of ownership. No video out either with a GPU or from onboard HDMI or VGA. No luck after resetting CMOS.

I RMAed the thing and it's been sitting at Asus' repair center for seven days and they still haven't updated the RMA to show that they even received it. It's been sitting on their dock for SEVEN DAYS. I'm seriously about to buy another motherboard (NOT Asus) out of impatience and distrust. This thing, whenever I get it back repaired, would serve as a backup or something.

Also, I have to pay to ship a defective motherboard for repair? That doesn't seem right.

STAY AWAY.

Other Thoughts: This is not the first time I've had bad experiences with Asus' support. I had a G73jh gaming laptop from them that was plagued with problems. I had to RMA it three times and every time was an absolute nightmare.

Stay away from Asus.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Please disregard my first message.

Please provide me with the RMA number so I can check why it's taking so long. Could be that they may be waiting for a part.

Regards,
Jeffrey

4 out of 5 eggsSound issue, otherwise good

Pros: 6 SATA (very rare for ITX)
USB 3
decent bios
RAID 0/1/5
extra space around CPU socket allows for somewhat larger heatsinks

Cons: only 3 analog audio ports - can only output stereo sound (no 5.1 to 7.1)
bloatware
some recommended drivers from Asus website did not work

Other Thoughts: good workstation or server board, mediocre for HTPC or gaming

1 out of 5 eggsSeems to have failed after ~6 weeks

Pros: Great form factor, good features, seemed to work well until it stopped working at all!

Cons: Motherboard appears to have failed after ~6 weeks of ownership. No video out either with a GPU or from onboard HDMI or VGA. No luck after resetting CMOS.

Having dealt with Asus' inept support and ambiguous RMA process in the past with an ROG laptop of theirs, I'm not looking forward to my next steps here.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Looks like you will have to send the unit in for service. Please provide me with your rma number and serial number so I can look into your case for you.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for NAS box motherboard

Pros: Has enough SATA ports that I was able to attach 6 HD and set up a raid array for a NAS box running freeNAS. So far so good serving up files to my other machines.

Mine was not DOA like so many other posts. All the components I required to install and run freeNAS are working as intended. If there is no update, it is because the board continues to work. Will change rating and update if issues arise.

Cons: Any cons for this board are tied more directly to the ITX form factor than the actual craftsmanship of the board. If you want to attach many components the form factor is not for you.

4 out of 5 eggsGood board

Pros: Had this board for just about a week at time of review. Its been used for heavy gaming already. Its running a stock 2600k. I knew I couldn't overclock, but had the 2600k as a spare CPU. Using this board for a mini mobile gaming rig.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Good board

1 out of 5 eggsDOA P8H77-I

Pros: Six Sata Ports; USB 3.0 header; 8 USB ports on back (2 are USB 3.0)

Cons: Only one extra fan header; DOA; slow repair progress

Other Thoughts: Bought the motherboard refurbished here off of newegg. This makes the second i have purchased one of these models, due to it's great feature set (see pros above). The first board worked great, but this one was DOA. System would power up, but no POST. No error codes from speaker. nothing. Tried multiple RAM sticks, different CPUs, and bench tested. Send it back to ASUS, and now they have had it for a week in repair, then mystery online status of WAITEX. I call to see what this means, and am told it failed repair and is awaiting parts. Why don't they send me a replacement, considering it is a lemon (second time in ASUS repair, as the one I bought was ASUS refurbished)? I don't want this dog back!

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Sorry to hear the refurb board was DOA. Unfortunately, with refurbish boards, all we can do is repair the unit.

If you are still under the return policy with newegg, I suggest you return the unit for an exchange.

Please provide me with your rma number and serial number so I can look into your case.

If you have any questions or comments you can email me again at cl-jeffrey@asus.com which I reside in the U.S
