5 out of 5 eggsm5a99fx - six months later

Pros: Everything tested functions and continues to function.

Cons: Not sure how I felt about only one RAM clip and just a notch on the other side. It worked but was awkward sliding the sticks in.

Other Thoughts: First desktop build. I bought this to pair with a FX-6200. I have not tried overclocking, but looking at the AI Suite II software that comes with it there is a "levelup" button in Auto Tuning which automatically overclocks. So maybe one day I'll try that but right now the CPU handles everything fine. Hyper 212 Evo installed fine on it with four low-profile RAM sticks.

2 out of 5 eggsNot that Great

Pros: The things works for the most part

Cons: Well Asus software package is horrible. It will bluescreen of freeze your pc if you install the entire suite. This board is not friendly with AMD overdrive easy over clocker software. I have had nothing but problems with this board from memory not clocking correctly, to the pc not coming out of sleep or going into sleep correctly. Everything is updated and still problems. I will never buy asus mobo boards again.

Other Thoughts: Should have bought Gigabyte Board. Got suckered in on a ram combo deal.

5 out of 5 eggsFine Mobo with a Gotcha

Pros: Easy to set up. Mousable BIOS.

Cons: BIOS recognizes USB sticks in either FAT32 or NTFS format. However, the BIOS printscreen function only recognizes FAT32. An undocumented feature to be sure. Gotcha!

5 out of 5 eggsgreat mother board

Pros: Easy to install. It went strait into my corsair 650D case with no problems. All the wonderful USB not to mention the USB 3.0 availability. Was able to fit two video cards plus a sound with no problems. Supports 32GB of ram which I have installed with no issues for space or compatibility. All in all the install was easy and strait forward with good quality.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: A second USB 3.0 20 pin header would be nice.

5 out of 5 eggsBeautiful Board

Pros: -Options to adjust just about everything in the great UEFI BIOS (have to go into the advanced section of course)
- OCed FX-8120 to 4.5 Ghz
- Can utilize Intel XMP memory profiles. Just select DOCP in the aitweaker tab. However, this does disable some of the manual adjustments you can make.
- Pretty good auto OCing software when you combine the TurboEvo with the smart Digikey
- Solid construction
- Fast boot works very well (need to enable it through BIOS first)
- LED lights make diagnosing POST failures easier than beep codes
- Lots of ports both internal and external
- Dual CrossfireX/SLI compatible with 2 PCIe slots at native x16
- EPU (hardware based power saving solution) works great with an OCed processor. Keeps things cooler and more stable and I've seen no noticeable difference in performance.
-BIOS Flashback button if something goes wrong with a BIOS update
-Optional 4pin CPU fan connector for push-pull
-onboard USB 3.0
-solid, large heatsinks

Cons: None so far.

3 out of 5 eggsMixed Bag

Pros: Fast & competent board. Reasonable set of features. 4 PCIe slots and USB 3.0. 32Gb RAM support. AHCI throughput pretty good. Supports FX-8350.

Cons: AMD RAID stinks. SB950 is a joke. Drivers are by Promise. AMD support site shows SB950, but you only get SB850. Refuses to set up in RAID with Windows 7. Linux and the rest run fine, they load their native Promise Fasttrack driver. Fasttrack is a very old Promise softraid for IDE drives. UEFI BIOS screen is nice, but the "auto sense boot" option is irritating. Keeps trying to boot to my non-OS USB stick.

Other Thoughts: After futzing with AMD RAID on other boards, I cry uncle now and will use LSI dedicated cards going forward. Shoot, my $49 PCI fakeraid card set up just fine, but this SB950 just won't do it. Additional SATA and USB 3.0 support through Asmedia controller. Asmedia is about 10-15% slower in AHCI than the SB950, sorry...Promise controller. Performance with FX-8350 acceptable thus far. SSD OS based RAID 0 saw 1000Mbps peak on some benchmarks. CPU runs cool, even on stock cooler. Clocks down to 1.4Ghz at rest.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Sorry to hear you are having issues with AMD RAID. Here is a link below where you can get the latest bios and drivers so you can install the AMD RAID. Please read your manual for AMD RAID setup.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Mobo!

Pros: Looks great.
All solid caps, big heatsinks.
Don't know too much about AMD specs, so I bought this based on name brand and reviews. It's a great choice for the money!
3 freaking PCI-e x16 slots!
USB 3.0 support

Cons: No PCI-e 3.0 ......
RAM slots are close to the CPU, one slot gets covered by my heatsink.

Other Thoughts: Great board! Asus is a great manufacturer IMO, I prefer EVGA, but they don't have AMD boards. Buy it.
