5 out of 5 eggsReally nice motherboard!

Pros: -Clearly labeled headders and buttons.
-Lights that display the functionality of other components (failed, functioning, etc)
-Lovely colours.
-Lovely bios.

Cons: -I feel like there could have been some warning in regards to the small plastic cover over the "DUAL INTELLIGENT PROCESSORS" heat spreader. Had my system not had a side window, it may have eventually caught fire, or melted onto my GPU.

Other Thoughts: The only issue I have had with it was that protective plastic on the silver engraving. Honestly it wasn't needed. It was the only part with it, and it was so cleanly placed with no indication that it even existed, that both me and my roommate (Both computer technicians) did not even notice it. It would have been a serious problem had my case not been built with a large viewing window on the side. [I saw the plastic bubbling up and peeling and had to stop mid game to turn the system off so I could remove it safely]

Maybe don't put potentially flammable, potentially meltable clear things without removal tabs on one small part of motherboards from now on?

4 out of 5 eggsCover your back, get the Extended Warranty - otherwise, decent motherboard

Pros: - great for those who want an ASUS MB w/ a 990FX chipset but not the pricepoint of a Sabertooth or a ROG Crosshair V Formula-Z
- backward compatibility with older CPUs

Cons: - questionable build quality
- had to RMA this as the first MB threw a solid CPU_LED; wouldn't POST at all - blank screen. must have been a bad socket because I've tested the memory, cpu, power supply and video card on a working MB and made sure all components were compatible.

Other Thoughts: - first make sure the MB posts and build the system up, one component-at-a-time, before installing into your case as you may get a bad build.
- good thing I considered the bad reviews to brace myself for a potentially failed board.

5 out of 5 eggsA lot for the money, a good stable board when setup correctly.

Pros: It's a good stable board. I have two, one of which I have had running for 2 years 24/7 as a home server. It's had a SATA card in it at one point with a total of 9 drives attached, 4 port Intel NIC, 32 gigs ram, constant use running 4 virtual servers (WIN 2012R2) in VMWare ESXI and it takes all in stride. Even doing a mild OC to 4.4ghz. I just bought another and moved the 4 data drives over from the other one, and made a NAS with it using NAS4FREE. Yes, it accepts ECC unbuffered RAM, which is what I am using, and it is reporting the 72 bit memory, which makes this setup a steal for home use over what you would need to spend to get similar from Intel. CPU in the first one is the 8350 Vishera, and the new NAS has the 6300 6 core Vishera, way more than I need for the NAS, so it runs cool and quiet. (Also 95w vs 125 for the 8350). So it provides ISCSI to the VMs in the older build and backup room for personal data. No kids it's not flashy, no fancy colors or glowing lights and it's not for extreme OC, but it will provide a solid platform for a reasonable cost, paired with a reasonably priced AMD processor. Even helped my sister build a similar setup at her house and hers has been UP for over a year similarly burdened, with no issues.

Cons: It is not flashy, and is not for extreme OC, if you could call that a CON.

Other Thoughts: Highly recommended for someone on a budget who wants a machine they can use for general purposes and then game on it (with an appropriate video card and PSU) without spending triple what it sells for. If you want cutting edge, get a Maximus board, INTEL cpu, water it and OC the heck out of it. Otherwise, put the dough into a good video card and PSU, pocket the rest and use this board with an AMD Vishera cpu,

5 out of 5 eggsStill going after 1 year

Pros: This board has been solid for a year. I've been quite pleased with its performance and it's overall stability. Still paired with the AMD FX-6300 CPU and 4 GB GSkill Ripjaws RAM 1333.

Using stock cooler, for an overclock test, I was able to overclock the CPU to 4.6 GHZ, but will need to upgrade to a better cooler as the temps are at 61°C at Idle, but was happy the system was stable as it was my first overclock on a CPU. When I upgrade I'll probably to a medium overclock to about 4.4 GHz. I don't want nothing to extreme.

Cons: Intermittent USB 3.0 controller failures. Sometimes during reboot, the controller won't reinitialize, and Windows only sees the 2.0 ports. A second restart fixes the issue. This only happens once every 6 months so I'm not complaining. Others have had this issue and it seems related to the PSU not giving the entire system enough power. My 600W Power Supply is over 8 years old, and the fan grinds, so hoping a new power supply fixes that issue.

Other Thoughts: I really love this board, despite the minor USB issue. I want to buy another one before they are discontinued.

I highly recommend this board.

5 out of 5 eggsNice

Pros: Easy to set up, good features. Good upgrade for faster processor down the road. Started with 6300.

Cons: No pins in USB 3 header for front. Returned and replacement ok. On new motherboard I found that if you remove the front USB 3.0 header the plastic retainer came part way off with the cable. When reinstalled the cable clips in but no 3.0. Removed cable and found the plastic retainer not glued down and have to push it back down.

Other Thoughts: Would buy again but think about the Sabertooth also.

5 out of 5 eggsVery Good Board

Pros: Great price, took advantage of a sale + rebate; high end board cost double that comes with extra features that to me are completely unnecessary…No need to pay double for a high end board, do you really need 12 USB ports or can you do away with 10? 8 SATA ports or will 7 do? 4 chassis fans connectors…or 3?

The only real differences are the multiple GPU configurations and they are very minor, but are you really going to run 3 GPUs since 90% of you run Single and the other 8% are running Dual, and the remaining 2% are likely on a high end Intel platform where boards cost $500-600 and a 40 lane CPU will run you another $500, the chipset supports x16-x16 or x16-x8-x8 or x8-x8-x8-x8

USB 3.0 support even if the 990FX chipset doesn’t natively support this, this was accomplished by extra ASMedia controller (thank you ASUS, no thanks to AMD)
I was able to get my Phenom II 980 from 3,900MHz on my old AM2+ M3A79-T to 4,200MHz on this board, extremely happy!
Auto tuning function via windows AI Suite II is surprisingly useful it automatically OC’d run my RAM to 870Mhz (because AM3 CPU only officially supports PC3-10600) and I was not able to improve on this, CPU overlock took some manual tweaking to get a higher overclock.

Cons: NB and Mosfet / Volt Reg run about 89-90C (confirmed with infrared thermometer) under full load doing stress testing, need active cooling since my CPU and GPU are water cooled and case doesn’t have that much air flow, currently looking into solutions; water blocks or fans directed at the heatsinks.

Still PCI-E 2.0 (no 3.0 support on any AMD platform), not the boards fault but due to the outdated chipset from AMD…

Other Thoughts: Still using old AM3 Phenom II CPU on this board, will mostly likely upgrade to a FX-9590 Piledriver for the native DDR3-2133 speed support when prices take a dive once Steamroller is released.

Don’t use USB 3.0 slots when installing windows via USB flash drive, it doesn’t recognize the drive correctly and says there is a CD/DVD driver missing, use the USB 2.0 ports instead.

Update to the latest BIOS before installing any OS, Don’t use the supplied DVD to install your drivers; they are likely outdated, download the latest drivers from ASUS website, the chipset driver being most important since it can’t be updated later.

RAM QVL (qualified vendor list) is a scam, they have a list of DDR3 2400(O.C.) and DDR3 2200 BUT no AMD CPU natively supports these speeds, FX-9590 and FX9370 only support DDR3-2133, so how on earth were they able to qualify them? They are no supposed to run overclocked CPUs to qualify memory... and most modules listed are no longer in production…

System specs:

4 out of 5 eggsGood product - Stable

Pros: Its my second build. Had it for 1 year now. All work smooth and perfectly. I also tried to overclock putting ASUS Optimal Mode in System Performance. I had trouble with that, but lucky, nothing fried. This is due to the good UEFI ASUS quality motherboard. The motherboard have all kind of feature that protect the board. Such as Probe 2 and EPU. I really like ASUS for that. Double protection.

Cons: None

5 out of 5 eggsA great board and easy to install

Pros: Nice motherboard I coupled it with a AMD 8350 CPU. The processor will go from a idle of 1405 MHz to 4185 MHz in a flash and runs a constant 34°C. Setup was very easy and straightforward. I reinstalled Windows 7 Ultima 64 bit, but had a problem installing the Realtek high definition audio drivers that came on the motherboard disk. I also downloaded and install the Realtek Audio Driver V6.0.1.7525 for Windows 7/8/8.1/10 32bit & 64bit and installed multiple times. Microsoft also installed a newer version which was digitally signed by Microsoft to no avail. Every attempt to install the Realtek high definition audio drivers failed. During the install I got the error message "program could not start normally". After working with the Asus help desk and Microsoft for over two weeks and examining such services as Windows end user audio builder and Windows audio service all found to be running correctly.

Cons: The problem and solution was found within the Internet options of Microsoft's Internet Explorer 11 of all places. Within Internet properties under the advanced tab scroll down to multimedia a check mark must be placed in the entry, enable alternative codecs in HTML5 media elements, in play animations in webpages and Play sounds in webpages .....then under security (most importantly) a check mark must be placed in the entry, allow software to run or installed even though the signature is invalid, the check mark must be removed from check for signatures on downloaded programs. This allowed the Realtek high definition audio drivers software to be installed correctly. Once the Realtek high definition audio manager was install correctly I click on the gear on the left hand side of the manager for advanced device settings. I switched this setting to make front and rear output device playbacks two different audio streams simultaneously. Also switched to separate all input jacks as independent devices. Once this was done I plugged in my audio system, it came up and asked me what it was, I selected audio playback and I now have all the ports on the back working correctly Including microphone which only worked on the front ports before. I will say that neither Asus support technicians or Microsoft's technicians had a clue as to the real problem, as most people installed this software before the release of Internet Explorer 10 and especially Internet Explorer 11.

Other Thoughts: I highly recommend this board for the cost and efficiency. Once my audio problem has been taking care of my experience improved dramatically. I hope this information helps other builders with their endeavors.

1 out of 5 eggsWont post no matter what CPU,RAM, or GPU is installed

Pros: It would be a great motherboard on paper if it worked properly. I want to like Asus products as I have heard good things, but I am extremely upset right now that it is already broken.

Cons: It is broken and therefore unusable. And I cannot get any help from Asus support, I cant do online rma, I am so mad I just want Asus to help me out and honor the warranty they say is rock solid but i have yet to see it.

Other Thoughts: I would not recommend this purchase to others until Asus tries to remedy this problem.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We appreciate the feedback you have provided on your ASUS experience. I'm sorry to hear about the issues you are experiencing. What are your hardware specifications? Is your CPU, memory, and power supply all in the qualified vendor list? After you have verified your parts, please double check each cable on the motherboard including your 24pin/8pin power plug connectors. Please make sure all your GPU connectors are firmly installed and that all your SATA drives are receiving power from your PSU. Clear CMOS and see if the board will POST. If it will not, pull one memory module and place the other stick in the slot furthest from the CPU and see if that helps. Please make sure to complete the power off cycle before testing hardware to avoid damaging your hardware. If you need help with any technical questions or general inquiries, please contact me directly at using N160420731 as reference to your case.

Thank you for choosing ASUS!

Best Regards,
