5 out of 5 eggsI hate this board

This review is from: ASUS M5A99FX PRO R2.0 AM3+ AMD 990FX + SB950 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard with UEFI BIOS

Pros: This board is FX-9000 Series Ready. This means this board does NOT GET HOT when a processor is installed. There are only 2 boards out there that do not heat up and this is one of them.BIOS is PERFECT!Best implementation i have seen yet!

Cons: What ASUS did wrong? The USB 3.0 and SATA Drivers prevent you from logging into your system.I installed the update. No change.I was locked out of my computer till i gave up an went to bed.
Sound chip is poor at best.I had to turn the sound all the way up.Which is why i prefer THX-Q Sound chips. Most people do not take this seriously but i do on this next one.BLUE Motherboard for representation of AMD.That is a FAIL.Black?OK.Black & RED?OK.BLUE Fail.If i put my INTEL motherboard next to the AMD motherboard.Could you tell the difference? No.You would put this in your BLACK & RED case with Bright RED LED lights an have a Blue and Black motherboard.People(NOT JOKING)Think your an idiot. Please never make them Blue. That is what i found wrong with the board. Please Take this seriously when developing a board.Update.It has been years now.Lower your prices.

Other Thoughts: I know others will hate on me for this but you need to understand.I payed for this.I expect better.I am not a fanboy of AMD or Intel.I am the paying customer. An these are things I need to say.Because of my utter disappointment.I Just got my FX 9370 that I will use for faster file compression and Editing. This board would be great for that. But other than that.I lose out on sound quality.(Buy a sound card you say? No.A quality chip should have already been installed. This was NOT a cheap board for Average components. So when i say what i say.I mean i have bought cheaper boards with better hardware installed.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks Perfectly but a little cramped

This review is from: ASUS M5A99FX PRO R2.0 AM3+ AMD 990FX + SB950 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard with UEFI BIOS

Pros: All you would expect from any mobo and never had an issue with it

Cons: The only con I have with this mobo is that the RAM slots are a little close to the processor. If you have a larger heatsink and fan you can only use 2 of the 4 slots. Not a biggie as I just need my 2x8Gb slots.

Other Thoughts: Recommended for people who don't need anything more than a 2x4GB or 2x8GB RAM

4 out of 5 eggsGood easy build

This review is from: ASUS M5A99FX PRO R2.0 AM3+ AMD 990FX + SB950 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard with UEFI BIOS

Pros: UEFI bios, came with latest bios installed so no flashing , support disk came with latest divers , all in all seems like a pretty stable start for a good build. Like the usb 3 didn't even have to hook up any of the onboard usb 2 connectors.

Cons: Glad I took time to do a little research , Asus site , Newegg reviews , the MOSSFET does come with a light layer of film protection so be sure to remove it before power up. during post all led's will show red and not green not a big deal but all works fine, the main led stays green.

Other Thoughts: Yes I would recommend this for a decent budget build , does have over clock potential ,not used for this build.Built for my father in law , he's not a gamer so the board is kinda over kill for him but does have the ability to take on some future upgrades.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued ASUS Customer,

Thank you for taking the time to write this informative review. Please accept our sincerest apologies for any inconvenience. Is your motherboard able to POST? Clear CMOS and see if the board will POST. If it will not, use one memory module in the slot furthest from the CPU and see if that helps. Please double check each cable on the motherboard including your 24pin/8pin power plug connectors. Please make sure all your GPU connectors are firmly installed and that all your SATA drives are receiving power from your PSU. We appreciate your feedback on this matter and I will be letting the related department know about the issues you are experiencing for continuous improvements to ASUS Support. If you need a help with any technical questions or general inquiries about ASUS Warranty Services, you can reach me at cl-nestor@asus.com.

Thank you for choosing ASUS!

Best Regards,
-Nestor

5 out of 5 eggsSolid!

This review is from: ASUS M5A99FX PRO R2.0 AM3+ AMD 990FX + SB950 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard with UEFI BIOS

Pros: - Awesome BIOS with an easy to navigate GUI
- Overclocking capable
- Reliable
- User manual is very detailed
- Cost effective option for gaming/overclocking

Cons: - Power connector near the CPU is in an awkward location for my case. Still accessible though.

Other Thoughts: I'm currently using this board with a FX-6300 and Radeon HD 7870 - both components have mild overclocks. Absolutely zero issues with dependability after 6 months of constant use. I'd recommend reading the manual when setting up for the first time to ensure proper connections are made. The manual also specifies which DIMM slots need to be utilized when only using 1-2 sticks of RAM (it matters). Overall, I'm very pleased with this board and would buy another.

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic Board

This review is from: ASUS M5A99FX PRO R2.0 AM3+ AMD 990FX + SB950 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard with UEFI BIOS

Pros: I bought mine second hand but only after doing some serious digging here on Newegg. I had a ASRock board with a 990FX Chipset and I wasn't having much luck with it, so I picked this one up for my initial 8320 build. I ended up with a dead CPU thanks to the ASRock, so I picked this up while awaiting my new 8350 to arrive and I'm happy to say everything is fantastic now with a 8350. Great overclocking features, I'm at 4.65GHz at 1.4V on water. My DDR3 1866 overclocks nicely as well after bumping up the FSB. Another great thing about this board is the level of power control you get from ASUS's Digi-Power control. Let me tell you, I can't speak enough praises about this. Nearly everything about the power delivery system to the CPU is adjustable within the BIOS. I can see why ASUS has a good thing going when it comes to overclocking and this Digi-Power system. The LED indicators for part failure are also nice, and the one touch buttons on the motherboard to reboot direct to BIOS are also very handy if you are running the board outside of a case. 4 ram slots allow for plenty of ram expansion, and a generous amount of SATA ports make this the complete package. I've not tested the CF support on it, but I don't really need a dual GPU setup, however, i'm sure it works great.

Cons: The only thing I can say about it, the VRM Chipset HS/Heat Pipe config gets rather hot...especially the bottom piece. If you have the ability, and can find parts to do so, it might not be a bad idea to add this to a water loop if you are planning on overclocking, or find some way to get the air moving in that area because it does get rather warm.

Other Thoughts: I would buy this product 10 times over. It has just as many features, IMHO, as more expensive 990FX boards without the associated high cost. Build quality is very good and the features are excellent, probably more than I will ever use to be honest (Optical Audio). USB 3.0 support is also nice for quick data xfers and having a USB 3.0 header is very nice for cases that have front USB 3.0 support. This is a fantastic board at a great price, if you are looking to get into the AMD FX line, look no further, you've found your board.

5 out of 5 eggsReally nice motherboard!

This review is from: ASUS M5A99FX PRO R2.0 AM3+ AMD 990FX + SB950 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard with UEFI BIOS

Pros: -Clearly labeled headders and buttons.
-Lights that display the functionality of other components (failed, functioning, etc)
-Lovely colours.
-Lovely bios.

Cons: -I feel like there could have been some warning in regards to the small plastic cover over the "DUAL INTELLIGENT PROCESSORS" heat spreader. Had my system not had a side window, it may have eventually caught fire, or melted onto my GPU.

Other Thoughts: The only issue I have had with it was that protective plastic on the silver engraving. Honestly it wasn't needed. It was the only part with it, and it was so cleanly placed with no indication that it even existed, that both me and my roommate (Both computer technicians) did not even notice it. It would have been a serious problem had my case not been built with a large viewing window on the side. [I saw the plastic bubbling up and peeling and had to stop mid game to turn the system off so I could remove it safely]

Maybe don't put potentially flammable, potentially meltable clear things without removal tabs on one small part of motherboards from now on?

4 out of 5 eggsCover your back, get the Extended Warranty - otherwise, decent motherboard

This review is from: ASUS M5A99FX PRO R2.0 AM3+ AMD 990FX + SB950 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard with UEFI BIOS

Pros: - great for those who want an ASUS MB w/ a 990FX chipset but not the pricepoint of a Sabertooth or a ROG Crosshair V Formula-Z
- backward compatibility with older CPUs

Cons: - questionable build quality
- had to RMA this as the first MB threw a solid CPU_LED; wouldn't POST at all - blank screen. must have been a bad socket because I've tested the memory, cpu, power supply and video card on a working MB and made sure all components were compatible.

Other Thoughts: - first make sure the MB posts and build the system up, one component-at-a-time, before installing into your case as you may get a bad build.
- good thing I considered the bad reviews to brace myself for a potentially failed board.

5 out of 5 eggsA lot for the money, a good stable board when setup correctly.

This review is from: ASUS M5A99FX PRO R2.0 AM3+ AMD 990FX + SB950 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard with UEFI BIOS

Pros: It's a good stable board. I have two, one of which I have had running for 2 years 24/7 as a home server. It's had a SATA card in it at one point with a total of 9 drives attached, 4 port Intel NIC, 32 gigs ram, constant use running 4 virtual servers (WIN 2012R2) in VMWare ESXI and it takes all in stride. Even doing a mild OC to 4.4ghz. I just bought another and moved the 4 data drives over from the other one, and made a NAS with it using NAS4FREE. Yes, it accepts ECC unbuffered RAM, which is what I am using, and it is reporting the 72 bit memory, which makes this setup a steal for home use over what you would need to spend to get similar from Intel. CPU in the first one is the 8350 Vishera, and the new NAS has the 6300 6 core Vishera, way more than I need for the NAS, so it runs cool and quiet. (Also 95w vs 125 for the 8350). So it provides ISCSI to the VMs in the older build and backup room for personal data. No kids it's not flashy, no fancy colors or glowing lights and it's not for extreme OC, but it will provide a solid platform for a reasonable cost, paired with a reasonably priced AMD processor. Even helped my sister build a similar setup at her house and hers has been UP for over a year similarly burdened, with no issues.

Cons: It is not flashy, and is not for extreme OC, if you could call that a CON.

Other Thoughts: Highly recommended for someone on a budget who wants a machine they can use for general purposes and then game on it (with an appropriate video card and PSU) without spending triple what it sells for. If you want cutting edge, get a Maximus board, INTEL cpu, water it and OC the heck out of it. Otherwise, put the dough into a good video card and PSU, pocket the rest and use this board with an AMD Vishera cpu,
