5 out of 5 eggsGreat Quality

Pros: -Great layout (fan ports not all bunched together)
-Super user-friendly BIOS

Cons: -Be prepared to do a bunch of updates before you can really do much, but that's just part of the game.

Other Thoughts: The disc that comes with is incredibly useful. You'll get a bunch of driver updates and commonly used programs like WinZip, etc.
Do all your updates before you freak out over audio, USB, etc.

3 out of 5 eggsTough Booger to Config

Pros: It actually started working after the 5th BIOS flash via USB.

Cons: SERIOUS effort to even get this board to post with I7-3820 which is listed as being compatible upon the first released BIOS 0302... I guess my CPU falls under E series CPUs....which isn't compatible until the 4302 BIOS release.

Other Thoughts: For a $200+ board this thing should be preconfigured to run any current gen LGA 2011 CPU. I had to fight tooth and nail to even get this thing up and running. Every time the board would get to the BOOT Device LED and just sit... no post nothing. SO... what they don't tell you. You'll need to patch that BIOS one by one IN ORDER until you reach the 3XXX release of the BIOS. At that point you can upgrade to the newest release. It took me for ever to figure out that you need to patch the BIOS one by one in order of release. Upon the installation of 4302 the board finally posted. So be warned that you might be jumping through hoops to get this thing up and running with the limited documentation out there.

The sabertooh board I have is based on the same chip set and I never had to fight with it like I did with this board. I'm not going sit here and knock ASUS products because I do stand behind them and I've used them for years but this little guy actually put a wrench in it for once which I've never really had a problem with an ASUS board. None the less this board posted and is up and running using a i7-3820. Just expect a little work.

1 out of 5 eggsUSB 3.0 does not work on these

Pros: Upgrades to 64 GB of Ram (which is more than you'd really need, but still cool)

Cons: On boot up, it tells me my fan is not working, but I know for a fact it is, even when I nearly max out my 20gb of ram and rendering. For a while I was manually going into bios to get around this and then choosing which hard drive to boot from until I just turned off the notification.

USB 3.0 DOES NOT WORK! Apparently this is a common problem and no drivers to fix this. My last 3 motherboards were made by Asus and never had issues. I used to think Asus was reliable

2 out of 5 eggsDead audio at 6 months

Pros: Works good when it works

Cons: Audio died, seems to be a common issue

Other Thoughts: 6 months of 5 days weekly use, audio died, can't get any audio anywhere on the mobo opticals or the front panel anymore. Just happened out of nowhere, no warning, no nothing. USB bypass works (shure digital microphone with a headphone jack gives me a plug for audio, bypasses Realtek etc.).

I don't like having to pay extra (shipping costs) to ship a defective motherboard to ASUS. It's like an equipment failure tax. If it's defective, why do we as consumers have to pay more for the defective item? If companies had to pay all shipping costs for defective products, maybe that would be an incentive for them to design things better and with less chance of failure.

If I could find a different brand for LGA2011 motherboards with consistently good reviews, I would drop ASUS. This is my first board failure and my first ASUS board. Other boards I own are from gigabyte and MSI, both older (one is about 1.5 years old, other about 2.5 years old) and neither of them have failed. However, they're not LGA2011.

5 out of 5 eggsCouldn't find a better LGA 2011 board for the money

Pros: Extremely simple to install and configure. ASUS really created a great value with this board. The BIOS is amazing and makes overclocks a breeze. Configuring the boot drive is as simple as clicking and dragging. On top of all that, this board feels incredibly solid, but still not too solid to where it feels like is would just crack under tension. Plenty of USB slots and great built in audio. Well done ASUS.

Cons: The only con is I had to upgrade the bios just to be able to use the new ivy bridge 2011 processors. But the bios flashback made it extremely easy. It wouldn't be fair to knock on ASUS for that anyway, it's to be expected.

2 out of 5 eggsJust.... no

Pros: Latest BIOS, easy to setup

Cons: First fail mb I've ever gotten. LAN port is bad (checked BIOS and it is enabled) and a PCI port is defunct. Was trying to 2-way SLI with a couple GTX 780s only to have Windows see only 1 of 2.

Manufacturer Response:

Greetings,

I am sorry that the LAN card and PCIe slot of the motherboard are defective. If the motherboard is within the exchange period, I would recommend setting up an exchange. Should you need any assistance, please let me know through email. 3764085.

1 out of 5 eggsPoor Quality

Pros: Good price.

Cons: We received the Motherboard and the Ethernet port wasn't working. Called customer support they confirmed the problem and requested the return of the MB for replacement. I had to pay $17 for the shipping.

Manufacturer Response:

Greetings,

Thank you for your review.

You mentioned that you had to pay for shipping; I presume you set up a RMA for the defective unit? If I am incorrect, and you still need an RMA and are outside of the exchange period, please contact me through email. Your motherboard should have a warranty on it. 3766035.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent product, vague instructions.

Pros: Great connectivity, versatility, and with plenty of room for expansion. 3-way sli and 64 gigs of ram? For this price? Yes please.

Cons: You need to update the BIOS if you're using a CPU newer than the mobo, BEFORE YOU CAN TURN THE THING ON. It's very simple to do using a usb drive (just google 'flashing bios p9x79 LE') i only mention it because lots of folks in various online reviews seem to think that their mobo is DOA, when it just needs a bios update before it can recognize the cpu. My i7 4930K was such a cpu. The mob didn't so much as blink, but then i flashed the bios and viola! Again don't let this dissuade you from buying an excellent board, i just wish asus was a bit more communicative about the bios thing as i had to do a bit of research to figure it out.

2 out of 5 eggsanother one of these with dead audio

Pros: great bios...easy build

Cons: audio died 8 months in....seems to happen to this board a lot by the reviews it gets.
The PCI slots are worthless in a crossfire setup to add a sound card

Manufacturer Response:

Greetings,

I am sorry that you are having issues with the motherboard. When you have the time, please send your complete computer part list, along with any troubleshooting steps tried so far, and I will do my best to help. I can be reached by email. 3691734
