1 out of 5 eggsOh for the love of....

Pros: This is a really nice motherboard and the built in waterblock is pretty cool...

Cons: Ok so I got this board, a 3770k and two HD7950's a set of samsung 840 pro's 16gigs of crucial ballstix and a coolermaster 1300W PSU.

easy enough to get together and install.

First boot attempt failed, no post codes and the lights all stayed on(?!) so I tried the cpu/ram/gpu's in a different system and they all worked fine. So i updated the bios using the flashback feature, and voila it worked.

Now for the first day everything was gravy 35000 points in 3dmark06 and stable at 4.2ghz all day long. however the next day I was playing bf3 on stock settings and the computer lost display and I had to reset the cmos to boot up again. After loading windows and launching my game I seen my FPS drop in half, so I check and make sure crossfire is enabled and it's not and there is no option to enable it. Video card is missing from device manager.

So i figure my gpu was bad, so I checked it in my old computer and it was fine. Put my primary video card in the second slot and no post, third slot was dead as well.

so after downgrading the bios, swaping almost 20+ GPU's into this thing I can't get any of them to show up in windows or the bios if they are in the second or third slot.

currently awaiting RMA numbers so I can mail this heavy pile of junk back.

Also newegg does not accept returns on these boards, btw

Other Thoughts: would of liked to return this and paid the extra for the extreme.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Sorry to hear that some of the PCIe slots are not working properly that you have to send the unit in for service.

If you still need assistance getting an RMA number I'll be glad to help.

5 out of 5 eggsSimply the best

Pros: Simply the best Motherboard I have bought to date. Glad I went Asus for this and the video card.
With the optional water cooling feature on the board I am ready for custom water cooling system in the future.
The ThunderFX module was something I've wanted for years, glad they added it to this board kit.

Cons: The blue tooth/wireless module was a bit unclear. Didn't see how to connect it until after I had the board mounted and bolted down.
Didn't really matter though, I don't use it.

NOTE: be sure to decide whether to use the module before installing the mobo into your case.

1 out of 5 eggsNice Board

Pros: Has may options for the serious gamer. Very nice looking motherboard nicely set up!

Cons: This board came in the mail, I installed it and had the memory lights stay on, that told me that the memory could not be read. So i took apart my wifes computer and installed the memory and cpu into the mother board and still the same thing. Now that I sent the motherboard back newegg is saying that I damaged the pins to the cpu socket. I have been building computers for over 10 years and nothing has happend like this. I should have read more into this board.. The reviews has alot of people saying the same thing. I have spent a bunch of money on this board and now its going in the trash. Thank you Newegg and ASUS for a $360 door stop.. The people at newegg are also no help at all. The policy states that if they receive a damage product like bent pins to the cpu socket they cant replace the motherboard. Well that is poor customer service and now they have just lost a customer.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Sorry to hear that you are being blamed for the bent pins on the board. Did you purchase this unit recently? If so you can send the unit in to be replaced. We can do a xship and we will send you a replacmeent board and then we will examine the defective board. If it is seen as damage done by you, we will charge your card. At least we are not charging you the full amount of the board.

If you have any questions or comments you can email me again at cl-jeffrey@asus.com which I reside in the U.S

1 out of 5 eggsFirst time for everything...

Pros: ASUS is usually reliable...I suppose nobody is perfect.

Cons: System failed to boot or show error messages via the onboard led diagnostic indicator.

Other Thoughts: I hate to jump the gun and blame the motherboard, but I hooked up a second power supply that I have and the board still fails to boot.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We're sorry to hear about your experience with the motherboard. Please try to retest without the mPCIe combo card installed, loosen the CPU cooler from the socket, and place the motherboard outside of the case with only CPU, one DIMM, and PSU (check 4-pin/8-pin/24-pin power connections). To continue support, please contact me at cl-benson@asus.com and we'll try our best to assist you. Thank you.

5 out of 5 eggsASUS Maximus V FORMULA/THUNDERFX

Pros: -Air & water cooled MOBO options
-Sleek looks with LEDs, lighted ROG emblem; superb looks
-Accepts higher MEM clocks
-WiFi & Bluetooth
-ThunderFX module
-Multiple inputs; USB 3.0. 2.0, eSata, Audio, HDMI, DisplayPort, etc...
-Everything seemed to work perfect when installing and connecting to my Thermaltake Level 10GT, no unused connections in case with this MOBO like other builds I've done...
-FIRST TIME BOOT!!!

Cons: -Instructions did not advice to install WiFi/Bluetooth BEFORE installing MOBO in case...I completely forgot about this and had a hard time installing after. The instructions go into this AFTER it explains installation of everything else and MOBO into case...
-Can't think about anything else...
-Tried to OC a couple of times but did not suceed, haven't really gone into it as much but will.

Other Thoughts: This is a great board that looks great too. First time boot to install Win7. Will try OC'ing my Ivy Bridge CPU which I'm sure I can and can find info on forums about how-to...

RECOMMENDED!

5 out of 5 eggsNot as Windows 8 Ready as it claims

Pros: A snap to install, closer in dimensions to a ATX than a E-ATX board.
Haven't had enough time to play with all the settings yet, but so far I'm extremely happy with this purchase.
Windows 8 comes with drivers for almost everything contained on the board.

Cons: Most of the utilities on the driver DVD don't work in Windows 8, like the anti-virus, Daemon Tools.
I haven't had any hardware issues as of yet, all of my complaints are software related. The board isn't as Windows 8 ready as it claims. The front panel USB headers don't work without a bit of poking and proding, installing AI Suite II seemed to resolve that for me.

Other Thoughts: Despite my difficulties with Windows 8 I highly recommend this board to someone looking for a solid board with a lot of options.

I have a Noctua NH-D14 cooler and it fits over the heatsinks on the board, for anyone concerned about that cooler.

Case: Cooler Master HAF XM
PS: Corsair HX1050W
MB: ASUS Maximus V Formula/ThunderFX
CPU: Intel i5-3570k @ 4.6 Ghz
Cooler: Noctua NH-D14
Memory: 16GB G. Skill Ripjaw X 1600Mhz (4x4GB)
Video: ASUS DirectCu II GTX 670 2GB x2 SLI
HDD: 2x 500GB WD Caviar Black (RAID 0)
Optical: Lite-on 12x Blu-ray Burner

4 out of 5 eggsGood for sandy bridge

Pros: Built in water bords. great sound, great for sandybridge overclocking. with a I7 2700k i got over 5 ghz , with ivy bridge only got 4.4 ,
this board with the sandy bridge I7 2700 will outpreform the new ivy bridge processers,

Cons: no ssd catching, no auto overclocking like the deluxe boards. your wasting you time with this board with a ivy bridge cpu.
the things this board can do, you just cant do with an ivy bridge, this board will handel more power for extreem overclocking, the ivy bridge just doesnt use that much power. you are wasting your time and money droping an ivy bridge into this mother board. but this board is awesome with the sandy bridge.

Other Thoughts: the board is desined to eliminate the heat caused buy overclocking buy watercooling the vrm. so its a prefect match for the sandy bridge I7 2700. its a powerhouse you can really get good overclocks this bord helps ckeep the vrm runing cool.
the new Ivy bridge uses les power and wont over clock very well, so its really sad puting this processer in this board. if processers were cars, the lga(2011) I 7 would be a corevett, the sandy bridge (1155) is a ford mustang, and the Ivy bridge is a ecco friendly gas sipping economy car. puting a Ivybridge cpu in this board is like puting a 3 cilinder hybrid motor in a corevette.
Intell is going ecco frendly, insted of making there new processers mor powerful, they want to do the same thing with less power, and less heat build up. withinn 2 years Intell will be selling PC's that will lool like I-pads, the Gpu will be built into the Cpu, and the cpu will be built onto the motherboard, so will the ram. in a small liltte touch screan ipad form. and they will be so cute. so for us people that like to build monster system, that push the limits of preformance, we build monster system that push so hard we have to watercool them. Intell just really doesnt care about us it seams. there going to try and grap the entire pc market buy building pc's in the form of a ipad. everything nis going to be on the same small compact energy efficent board. maby Amd will step up to the plate. also in the works is a handheld touch screan moniter that connects wirelessly to your pc.

1 out of 5 eggsWindows 8 problems

Pros: Lots of features.

Cons: AI Suite II overclocking software does not work with Windows 8. Overclocked settings in the bios are not recognized by Windows 8 and overclocked settings configured in the AI Suite II software are not even recognized by the same software. Very very buggy software and incompatibility with Windows 8.

Would love to get a resolution by an ASUS rep!!

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We're sorry to hear about your experience with AI Suite II on Windows 8 on this motherboard. AI Suite designed to allow you the ease of changing settings in the Windows environment. These changes do not persist after restart or shutdown--this is normal. If you like overclocked settings to persist after restart or shutdown, please change these settings in UEFI.

We tested AI Suite II on this motherboard on Windows 8 RTM and did not have incompatible issues. To continue support, please contact me at cl-benson@asus.com, reference #C1037-6199 in the subject line or our motherboard support hotline at 1-812-282-2787.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat board, OC won't work...

Pros: Lots of options and very fast. Easy to use bios.

Cons: Tried to overclock using the latest version of Asus's AI SUITE II but no luck. I changed the CPU multiplier in the software to 46 but the AI Suite still only saw the multiplier at the stock of 35. Went into the bios and the bios saw the multiplier change but neither the AI Suite II or Windows 8 64bit recognized the change in the multiplier....only shows the stock multiplier.

Quite disappointed, would love to know how to fix this so I can take advantage of the overclocking features of this mobo. Can an ASUS rep please reply to this and help me out?

1 out of 5 eggsCan't Use All Memory Channels

Pros: Looks pretty.

Cons: Won't boot with any more than one memory module installed. Error code 55 is shown on the board.

I did some searching and I see there are other users with the same issue, the memory controller on this board is beset with problems.

Other Thoughts: ASUS quality control is totally lacking if they are sending out boards like this. For the price of this board this should not be happening to so many people.

I spent hours getting my build right, now I have to take it all apart to send back this motherboard.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We apologize for the issue you had with the motherboard.

Error 55 indicates that memory was not detected. Please try reseating the memory, the CPU, and observe if the socket pins are damaged. If possible, please test the CPU and memory in another system to verify that it works. If no damage to socket pins, we recommend sending the motherboard for RMA service by using the following form http://vip.asus.com/eservice/usa_rmaserv.aspx or call 1-812-282-2787.

The memory controller is not on the motherboard but integratred on the CPU.
