King of Z77 overclocking boards.

The powerful ASUS Maximus V EXTREME motherboard has arrived! It features tons of advanced overclocking features for enthusiasts to set new world records. This motherboard features Socket LGA1155 to support Intel 3rd/2nd Generation Core i7/ i5/ i3/ Pentium / Celeron Processors. Native 10Gbps Intel Thunderbolt support combines display and high speed data transfer capabilities into one streamlined arrangement for faster data transfers and better visuals. To ensure absolute graphics power, the Maximus V Extreme has five PCI Express 3.0 slots, two of which are native-linked to the CPU for faster and latency-free graphics performance. NVIDIA 4-way SLI and AMD CrossFireX are improved with LucidLogix Virtu MVP multi-GPU optimization.

OC Key is an ROG-designed device that connects to the DVI port of any graphics card to display performance and overclocking info on the screen independent of system resources. While overclocking in LN2 mode, Subzero Sense detects cooling system temperatures as low as possible so you can find out how cold your board is. ROG Extreme Engine Digi+ II and specially sourced high-grade capacitors ensure long lasting and high-endurance power delivery demanded by gamers and competitive overclockers. ROG users also appreciate the exclusive features well-suited to overclocking such as VGA Hotwire, ROG Connect, and more.

  • newegg Blistering-fast Data Transfers An industry first, ASUS has place Thunderbolt I/O technology onboard its motherboards, and are set to revolutionize the speed at which peripherals and displays operate. Featuring a maximum bi-directional speed of 10 Gbps, Thunderbolt is 2 times faster than USB 3.0 and an incredible 20 times faster than USB 2.0. And with the ability to daisy-chain up to six devices without the need for a hub or switch, that means less overheard for a clutter free computing experience. For example, users can connect multiple native Thunderbolt storage devices, an HD video capture device and even an HD display to a single Thunderbolt chain while maintaining maximum throughput.
  • newegg OC Key Monitor the status of your system in real-time with OSD Monitor while tweak the parameters with OSD TweakIt, both come with a convenient graphical overlay displayed right on screen. OSD Monitor allows you to view POST codes in real-time, complete hardware status and even the readout from VGA Hotwire and Subzero Sense, all at a pure hardware level. And, OSD TweakIt provides you with a set of critical and hardware-driven functions so you can tweak your system on-the-fly.
  • newegg mPCIe Combo + Dual-band Wi-Fi/Bluetooth 4.0 Hook up immediate extra connectivity to the ROG motherboard and say so long to physical limitations. The unique Combo attaches to the motherboard near the rear I/O, and comes with one mSATA port supporting Intel Smart Response Technology hybrid storage acceleration with compatible mSATA SSDs, and a dual band 2.4/5 GHz Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n and Bluetooth v4.0 card bundled into its mini PCI Express 2.0/USB 2.0 combo port on the opposite side. This way, you can connect extra devices without taking up valuable space on the motherboard, and get the best of both worlds: for better connectivity and expandability without sacrificing essential features.
  • newegg VGA Hotwire Love to overvolt but got mad trimming the tiny variable resistors? With the VGA Hotwire feature, plug the two-wire cable onboard and solder two wires on the VGA's voltage regulator and accurately adjust the voltage, taking your system to the next level while avoiding some risks.
  • newegg Plug and Overclock - Tweak it the hardcore way! Monitor the status of your desktop PC and tweak its parameters in real-time via a notebook—just like a race car engineer—with ROG Connect. ROG Connect links your main system to a notebook through a USB cable, allowing you to view real-time POST code and hardware status readouts on your notebook, as well as make on-the-fly parameter adjustments at a purely hardware level.
  • newegg Extreme Engine Digi+ II The Extreme Engine Digi+ II has been upgraded and equipped with the finest Japan-made 10K Black Metallic capacitors, while the digital VRM design allows you to achieve ultimate performance with adjustable CPU and memory power management frequencies. Precise adjustments create greater efficiency, stability, double lifespan and performance for total system control.

5 out of 5 eggsTweaking Fun

Pros: Great board for those of us who like to adjust things, lots of resources bells and whistles.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: first OS install unstable probably due to my mouse or keyboard plugged into the ROG port (?)

1 out of 5 eggsAsus, buy or not to buy

Pros: Asus made a great motherboard until just a year and a half later two of the pci-express slots died.

Cons: This is what happened to me with Asus. My motherboard was still under warranty, so I called and got an RMA. I paid to mail my motherboard to them. My board was gone about a week and a half. On my RMA status, they said they had fixed the board and mailed it back. I finally got the motherboard back with the same problem.:( The pci express slots still did not work. Now, not only am I without a motherboard that works, but I had to pay extra money to mail the board to them for nothing. Why have me mail it, if they weren't going to fix it?

Other Thoughts: I am just one of Asus' customers. I just thought if other people were going to buy from Asus, they should know what happened to me and how Asus might treat you if you have a warranty issue. So buyer beware.....

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Sorry to hear that you had an issue with the pci-express slot. Please provide me with your RMA number and serial number so I can look at your case to see what I can do to make this right.

You can email me at cl-jeffrey@asus.com

ASUS strives to meet and exceeds our customer expectations within our warranty policy.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat MB

Pros: ASUS is always the best in my opinion. This is probably my sixth or seventh ASUS motherboard over the last 15 years of buying at Newegg and never had any issues with any of them. This motherboard was very easy to install all the components, and booted right up recognizing and configuring everything on the first bios boot. I had to make very few changes to the bios settings. Very impressive board. Kind of a waste on me because I’m not an over-clocker and probably will never push this board to its limits, but will expect many years of just great computing. Thanks ASUS!!

5 out of 5 eggsawesome awesome board

Pros: The pros: well there are several but the main selling point for me was being able to do a quad SLI if I wanted to without having to give up some other feature that other boards that will run a 4 way SLI require you to do because of cost for the manufacturer. I absolutely love this board. I have built several rigs now and while I have had great experiences with other manufacturers such as MSI ( a lot of ppl have bad reviews for MSI products but I have never had a issue with anything I have bought from MSI) I wanted something different and I found that in the maximus V extreme. Best board I've ever owned. Hands down.

Cons: I had a difficult time getting the board to recognize my 3rd HDD unless I connected it to the 1st or 2nd Sata port and honestly I'm not overly fond of the wifi the board comes with.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome! Incredible!

Pros: This board is beautiful! ASUS has done it again with the BEST board around. Everything about this board screams quality and speed. You definitely get what you pay for.

Cons: I wish they hadn't bothered with the PS2 connector. I also wish the instructions had listed the mPCIe WIFI be added BEFORE you install the MB, instead of listing that information AFTER the motherboard installation sequence.

Cons: Everything

Other Thoughts: This board was working great for about a week then one morning i wake up and try to turn my PC on and nothing.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We're sorry to hear about your experience with the motherboard. Does the standby LED come on with the 24-pin EATX plugged in? If not, please try switching off the PSU, then back on, or use to another PSU. Please also try clearing CMOS by pressing the Clear CMOS button in the rear I/O? If the system powers on, do you see any ASUS Q-LED (CPU, DRAM, VGA, Boot Device LED) on? These LED's can help you isolate what hardware is causing no POST issue. Please try replacing the suspect part(s). If there's no change, recommend RMA the motherboard for service by using the online RMA submittal form at: http://vip.asus.com/eservice/usa_rmaserv.aspx or call us at 1-812-282-2787. Please us know if there's anything that we can assist you with by emailing me below or contact us at the number above. Thank you.

4 out of 5 eggsReceived a dead board, but my replacement is flying

Pros: This is a board that I consider to be on the bleeding edge (ahead of cutting edge), in terms of what can be offered with a motherboard. Now that I have my replacement board (first board was a dud), this thing is the best board I have ever owned. This is my first ROG board, and all consumers should at least consider ROG products from ASUS. This board should win the major awards.

Cons: I knocked an egg off for receiving a dead board, and having a tough time getting an expedited RMA through ASUS. I actually had to wait three weeks (for more stock) to get the board from ASUS and now that I have it, it's great.

Other Thoughts: Anyone considering a top end board, this is it. Just hope that you receive a good board from the start. This board is hard for ASUS to keep in stock for RMA's. This is no fault of their own, it's just its popularity.

My build:
Intel Core i7-3770k @ 4.5 GHz

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: I purchased this board about 1 week after release, and paired it with a 3770k, Overclocking that to 4.5 GHz.

This board has everything you need, using crossfire'd 7970's and a xonar sound card with room to spare.

no coil whine at all.

what I love the most is the built in wifi card.

Overall, amazing board!

Cons: Bios update was sorta a pain... but not much other than that

Other Thoughts: Only needed to update bios due to what i thought was a compatibility issue, turned out to be a bad drive.
