3 out of 5 eggsASUS P8H61-M LX

Pros: mATX factor; inexpensive

Cons: not very fast on bootup and in Windows 7; lan drop conection quite often

Other Thoughts: has better choice

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Sorry to hear that you are having an issue with the lan dropping. Here is a link below where you can update to the latest bios and drivers.

http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P8H61M_LX/#support_Download_30

Regarding the bootup, sometimes the speed of the HDD affects the bootup time.

Have you tried another network cable to see if you are still experiencing drop connections. Have you tried going into safemode and did you expereince any drop connections. Try updating your drivers for your graphic card as well.

If you have any questions or comments you can email me again at cl-jeffrey@asus.com which I reside in the U.S

4 out of 5 eggsSolid Board

Pros: Easy Set-Up, Simple Bios Set-Up, Very user friendly board.

Cons: Very slow driver install using Asus UI.

Other Thoughts: Little lack luster with some of it's features, but given the price range it is a solid investment. Board was easy to set-up, with no special knowledge or drivers to install windows.

3 out of 5 eggsWatch out

Pros: When it works, it works well. I'm a fan of the number and variety of I/O connectors. The UEFI BIOS - EZ Mode - Flexible & Easy BIOS Interface is really nice.

Cons: Purchased two of these boards and both showed the same problem. If the memory slot closest to the cpu was occupied the board would not post, it would work only if ram was in the second memory slot and second memory slot alone. By updating the BIOS the problem was fixed on the second board but it did not help the first one.

Other Thoughts: Once I got the board working, I've liked it.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Glad to hear that the update bios resolved your issue.

I hope you are using it to it's full potential and you are enjoying your motherboard.

1 out of 5 eggsSadness.

Pros: Cheap Board.. Asus..

Cons: Ordered (3) of these boards on a rush job, figured ASUS would be reliable like normal, however on all three the onboard video was not functional, when we installed video cards they all worked fine, within one day, one of the computers started exhibiting more issues with video, we replaced the video card with 3 different known working cards to no avail. im RMAing all 3 now D;

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We're sorry to hear about your experience with three of the motherboards. Are you using a CPU's that does not feature integrated graphics? Models such as desktop i5 that end in P and Xeon's that do _not_ end in 5 cannot take advantage of onboard video on this motherboard. Please see http://ark.intel.com for more information. If your CPU is determined to have integrated graphics, please RMA the motherboards to us by calling 1-812-282-2787 so that our technicians can test them, and repair or replace as necessary. We apologize for the inconvenience this may cause.

5 out of 5 eggsNice solid budget mobo

Pros: Cheap. Has legacy PS/2 keyboard and printer port which helps for breathing life into old computers.
Small.

Cons: Lacking 40-pin IDE for older optical drives. Be sure to get a SATA drive if you are upgrading an existing system.
Memory slots are a little funky as only one side latches.

Other Thoughts: Not a bad board for the price. Still 5 eggs on value alone.
If you can get passed the cons listed it is a great cheap board.

2 out of 5 eggsBad Ram?

Pros: Cheap board for 2nd Gen intel CPUs

Cons: Can't run ran at its native 1333mhz only 1066mhz, frequent windows crashing, disappointed in ASUS

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

The motherboard is capable of running at 1333 when using a Intel Sandy Bridge CPU. We recommend obtaining memory rated to run at 1333 MHz from our QVL for best compatibility. Crashing in Windows may or may not be memory or motherboard related. Please try testing the memory for errors, updating drivers / Microsoft hotfixes, or researching the crash messages / errors to see find the root cause.

3 out of 5 eggs2 out of 4

Pros: Nice solid board when they work.

Cons: Ordered 4 of these and 2 would not boot with both RAM SIMM in slots. Not even a beep from the board. If I only ran on one SIMM they both boot fine but then only ran the DDR3 1600 at 1066. Hours wasted trying to tweak the RAM settings to get the dual channel RAM to work. Updated the BIOS - really tried everything...

Other Thoughts: We have used these same boards for many builds in the past few months and we never ever had an issue. Now with this last batch we end up with 2 of the 4 sent back to NewEgg for replacement. I hope this was a freak incident as we have come to reply on ASUS.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We apologize for the issue you had with the motherboard. Please let me know if you still have problems with the replacements. My email is cl-benson@asus.com. 5 out of 5 eggsSolid motherboard

Pros: This is a basic motherboard but you can acheive a high performing PC with the right components. Great value. ASUS reliability.

Cons: No SATA 6GB/sec.

Other Thoughts: This is a great motherboard for a professional setup (i.e. not gaming). You will still be able to run a powerful machine with this motherboard but it won't have all the bells and whistles of higher end more expensive models. It features the intel 1155 socket, 2 RAM slots, and 1 PCIex16 slot. You can easily achieve a Windows Experience Index (WEI) base score of 5.9 with the right components (and spend under $500). By the way, the bottom 5.9 score was from my 1TB WD black drive. If you decide to go with an SSD, you may see that base score rise, but keep in mind most SSDs now will be running at 6GB/sec so this MB will slow it down to 3GB/sec. Even a basic video card like the EVGA 430 will provide WEI scores above 6.0 for both the "graphics" and "gaming graphics" categories.

4 out of 5 eggsGood for the Price

Pros: Love ASUS. My old mb lasted almost three years. Did a complete rebuild this time around and ASUS will stay the mb of choice.

Cons: I ordered with a 2 day shipping because I needed to get the computer up and running as fast as possible. The first motherboard I got would not power at all. It took a full week to go from rma to getting my new board. Only took one egg off because in the end the MB was great.
