5 out of 5 eggsAsus Quality

Pros: Quality, features,value

Cons: Not exactly an ATX size. A bit small to reach ATX standoffs. Be careful working the one side so as not to bend or break it

Other Thoughts: Got this for all the new features and to overclock a 6350, for which this board is perfect. 4x2 power. Nice heat-sinks everywhere. 970 chipset, but for a one GPU rig this is no issue. Has a second slot but it's x4. Xfire or Sli? Go 990. Everything works on this board and it has a ton of nice features. Went with a certain "new" red 970 board first from another company (because I liked the color) and it was DOA ...so I ran back to Asus. If you use a CM Hyper 212 with high profile ram you are going to lose slot one.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome Board

Pros: Great look it goes really great with my Blue Look of my case and lights.
True 3.0 and 6gs tranfer.
I LOVE LOVE the bios they did such a fantastic Job on that.
So glad they finally modernized that so i dont have to look at Blue and white all the time.

Cons: NOTHING

Other Thoughts: all i can say is that this motherboard is just really great.
i really really like the new bios setup and it makes it so much faster to pick my boot drives or change settings with out even thinking about how do i navigate this and reading special keys to change your options. plenty of usb 3.0 ports and great look that i love. goes well with my Ram being blue. ASUS really did it again.

5 out of 5 eggsLong-Term Ownership Review

Pros: Stable, low power, cool, board that works well all around

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Have had this board running in a system for some time. It is stable as a rock with a 6 core cpu and 8gb RAM. No issues. Boots fast. I've got it in a corporate environment and it is super stable.

2 out of 5 eggsgood when it works

Pros: Good price
Has all the features I needed for a good AMD-based system
More ports than I know what to do with
Supports memory beyond the standard 1600 MHz
Good overclocking features if you're into that
Stable if it's working

Cons: Began dying after six months. Dead after eight.

After about six months, the system wouldn't boot after I pressed the reset button. It didn't even initialize the keyboard or video card or finish the POST and beep. The fans and hard drive spun, but that was about it. I needed to cycle the power about 5-10 times before it would boot again. I thought it was a fluke, but it happened again the next time I shut it down. I tried to leave it running 24/7 after that, but every time I had to shut it down, it had trouble starting again.

A month later, I had my quarterly cleaning and disconnected the computer. This time it required 10-15 power cycles before it would boot.

Today, I foolishly hit the reset button and it will boot no more, even after 40-50 power cycles. Very disappointing. I tried disconnecting all the peripherals, using different RAM, etc. Nothing.

I never overclocked it, and kept it well-cooled. While it was running, it was completely stable. But it died after a couple dozen power cycles.

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic Budget Motherboard

Pros: Fast
Fancy BIOS Screen
Excellent Hardware Features
Crossfire/SLI-Ready

Cons: CPU and Case Fan Power are awkwardly placed

Other Thoughts: As a budget PC gamer, this is by far the most feature-enriched motherboard I've ever owned.

The fast-boot feature works extremely well with an SSD. My last motherboard was a Gigabyte, and while it worked fine I was always disappointed with how slow my startup times seemed to be even with an SSD. With this motherboard's fast startup feature enabled it's noticeably faster.

The physical buttons that were added to fast boot or boot straight to the BIOS menu seem promising, however I haven't had much use for them yet. I've seen case modifications where people have hooked the BIOS menu button to an external button, which seems pretty cool to me, but that's obviously not something that comes "out of the box" with this motherboard.

Also, this is a bit silly to admit but the BIOS menu itself just looks awesome on this motherboard. I've never seen a BIOS menu where you can use a mouse (perhaps because I've stuck with budget motherboards until now), so that was pretty cool. It also provides easy presets for power-saving, performance or a balance of the two.

Really my only complaint is that the plug for the CPU (the 8-pin connector from the PSU, not the CPU fan plug) is really awkwardly placed. It's at the very top of the board, and for my case (Rosewill Challenger) this meant it was about a half-inch from top edge of the case. Adding in the Cooler Master Hyper 212 cooler that I have and I had to use a pair of tweezers to plug in the power. The case fan plug is similarly placed, but closer to the RAM slots so that was also a bit of a pain (only applicable if you're not using molex connectors for your case fans).

All in all, this is by far the best and coolest budget motherboard I've ever owned. I might have to stick with ASUS from now on.

5 out of 5 eggsFirst motherboard purchase in a long time

Pros: It had been a while since I had the need to purchase a motherboard separately. So far, I like everything about it. Nice price, nice features, nice company (yet to have issues with ASUS products), nice heat-sinks. This board has the USB3.0 connector for the front of the tower, as opposed to the LE version.

Cons: None.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent for the price range

Pros: Very stable
Does what it says on the tin

Cons: The only time my system ever hangs or blue screens is when a device is charging on a USB 3.0 port or when just a cable is left connected to that port. It's fine with thumb drives or a fully charged Galaxy Note 3. USB 2.0 ports do not have this issue. Most stable motherboard I've had in a long time otherwise, and I don't really care if I can't leave a cable plugged in or charge at the higher amperage. Doesn't lose an egg for it.

5 out of 5 eggsM5A97 R2.0 - Poor RMA service

Pros: Good looking board - Nice features - Easy to work with -
Worked very well for 12 months

Cons: After 12 months will not post past the Asus Logo - Screen goes blank - Tried 2 other graphics cards, another PSU, other memory sticks, no luck. I go into the BIOS but can not get passed the first screen.
Updated BIOS with USB FLASHBACK feature which works nice. BIOS was version 1503 - Is now version 2501.

Other Thoughts: North bridge gets so hot I can't even touch it. I suspect this is where the problem comes from.
Sent a RMA request. Got an answer after 48 hours asking me if I tried the USB FLAHSBACK BUTTON.
I answered the question and got an automatic answer that I would hear from Asus within 48 hours (again).
But it has been 72 hours and I did not hear from them.
What's the holdup? With all the horror stories I read on the web about Asus RMA service what am I supposed to think? Should I buy something else or still wait for the RMA? This is not my first build. I have been working with computers for the past 32 years.
I still give 5 eggs to Newegg. Nor their fault if Asus has bad service. I give 0 eggs to Asus.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid Budget Mobo

Pros: Its an Asus
Its reliable
BIOS/EFI is great
Updates Easy
Doesn't bottleneck anything I have

Cons: None. Just what I've come to expect from an Asus product.

Other Thoughts: Honestly not surprised I love this product. Its an Asus product, which is mostly the reason I bought it, alongside the price tag. I've ordered around 30-35 Asus products and literally had only one be DOA and got a replacement for that in less than a week. Asus is a solid company and does customer service right. You won't be disappointed in this board or the support they bring.
