5 out of 5 eggsAnother great product from ASUS

Pros: Manufactured very well. Nice full ATX board. Many usb 3.0 connections. Many Sata connections. Over kill heat sinks on north bridge and south bridge chips. Board is well made. Very nice and sleek bios, mouse compatible. Many over clocking options.
Just simply a nice mobo.

Cons: No Cons what so ever. Fired right up the first time.

4 out of 5 eggsNice board and simple to setup

Pros: It was pretty fast and the BIOS setting was easy to manage. Handles great the 32gigs of memory I put into it. Worked perfectly out of the box and is stable.

Cons: I was disappointed that when you use the crossfire features. One Card is 16X and the other is 4x. It does say it in the specs but I missed that. You can feel the lag in your games. This board would of be better using a single 16X card and 4gigs or more of memory on the GPU.

5 out of 5 eggsDoing great even with my scary mistake

Pros: Works well, have yet to try OC, however with my 850 psu, 8320, gtx 660 (which i plan to upgrade to 960 or higher), playing games such as bns, csgo, gtav, the forest, I have been satisfied.

Cons: Can't upgrade past 8350 cpu. (Not that it is necessary, 8320 / 8350 are excellent cpus and work perfectly today).
No SLI support. Since I use Nvidia I do not have the potential to use two graphic cards now.

Other Thoughts: I dropped my phone on the motherboard while using it as a flashlight when I was first placing my mobo into the tower. - Nothing bad came of it. Was so worried, even considered to discontinue trying to put it into my pc, but with faith and luck there was no problem, and for this I must say it is a strong and reliable mobo.

Reason for me getting this mobo, is because my last mobo which was a gigabyte made mobo, one of the transistors had came off and were unable to be put back on.

I was recommended this by someone who has the model that is one less than this model, updated wise. All is well.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect!

Pros: Definitely best bang for your buck motherboard. Works perfect. Very versatile. No instructions needed. All connections listed on motherboard. Pretty much plug and play.

Cons: I didn't feel this would be worth an egg or even deserve to be in the cons section but the faceplate that is visible from the rear of the case, did not fit in the case that I purchased. Very minor setback.

Other Thoughts: Look very closely at the "CPU_fan" connection. I initially had it hooked into the wrong plug. On startup it will give you a "fan error." Simply shut down and connect to proper connection at the top edge of the motherboard. Its the center connection of the three. ;-)

5 out of 5 eggsSolid.

Pros: I bought all the parts, like the PSU,CPU,GPU,Mobo (this), everything except ram. I never really got around finishing it. 2 years later, today. I bought corsair vengeance Ram, and a Western Digital 1TB hdd, and the mobo is running solid. Its been about 1 month since ive got it running, everything checks out fine.

Cons: I dont like how it does not support SLI, Green light on mobo never turns off, I/O shield looks childish, id rather have it black. Performance wise, no cons at all.
Be careful with the USB 3.0 connector, if you have a long GPU it might be in the way and you'll run into some troubles.
I have the Reference GTX 770 by gigabyte, if your GPU is that long, you're absolutely fine. But now adays cards are getting longer than that so be careful.

Other Thoughts: yes i would recommend this product.

3 out of 5 eggsDied after a week of use

Pros: Nice intuitive, informative BIOS, cheap when I bought it, worked flawlessly with all other parts. Up and running whole system and gaming in an hour and a half.

Cons: Died after about a week of use. Pulled board out swapped with known good memory and video but it was no good. Powered up but no screen or beeps. Submitted RMA. Guess we'll see on the next one.

Other Thoughts: These things happen and I was surprised my new build had no DOAs at first. Shoulda known something would happen. But we'll see what happens with the 2nd board.

1 out of 5 eggsMind of its own...

Pros: None since couldn't get it to work properly.

Cons: Board wouldn't detect my HDD with the OS. It saw my other storage drive and ROMs just fine. Lost track of the number of times I tried to get it to detect by trying every combination of SATA connections and power...INCLUDING the ones used to connect my secondary drive. Then the next day it inexplicably detected the drive and booted up...all seemed okay. Started to update drivers but then it would reboot and be back to square one. A couple reboot attempts later and it would detect then reboot afterwards...rinse repeat. It "worked" well enough that it sent WINDOWS into System Restore mode twice. Last couple attempts it would momentarily flash the BSOD so quickly I never had a chance to see anything other than a flash of blue.

I tested the drive on another computer (an old Core 2 Duo) and it booted up fine. RMA is sent in and seeking refund. Will replace afterwards with different board.

IDK if it had anything to with it but the HDD I tried to connect is a few years old and is a 3gb/s rated while board is 6gb/s. My secondary board is also 6gb/s. But since it booted successfully a couple times then went nuts on me...I doubt it does.

Other Thoughts: Not happy at all...

3 out of 5 eggsProblems after 2 days of use.

Pros: All pros in my last reviews, but just started having a problem today. See cons.

Cons: Out of the blue today, sound started only coming from one speaker. Checked speakers and they work fine in my other 2 systems. If I unplug the speakers, then plug them back in, it will work, but if I shut the computer down, then turn it back on, sound only coming from one channel. This doesn't happen with the front audio ports. I tested my headphones on the back ports and had the same result unfortunately.

Not just that, there seems to be an issue with 2 of the back USB 2.0 ports. There is an annoying issue where these ports will stop seeing USB devices temporarily for about 30 seconds or so. then reconnect. Unable to keep my wireless adapter connected to these ports due to this issue. Also my USB mouse will stop temporarily until power comes back to the ports.

Also, the hard drive has some strange behavior after a shutdown. it will start loading Windows just fine, but before the login screen comes up, the hard drive will fully power off, then power back on after 5 seconds. This all started after 48 hours of use.

I reset the CMOS, and saw no change. No memory issues. None of these problems occured in the last system, and are known working parts. As a computer technician I'm coming to the conclusion that the board is starting to fail.

Other Thoughts: I'm going to RMA this board and going to get a better quality of a board. My wife wants a system that will not fail on her, and this one disappointed both her and I. So with this board, 1 good, 1 bad. These things happen. Will either buy a M5A99FX PRO R2.0, M5A99X EVO R2.0, Sabertooth 990FX R2.0, or will move to the FM2+/FM2 line of Motherboards.

Disappointed, but glad this happened early on, and not 6 months down the road.

5 out of 5 eggs2nd Review

Pros: This is the second M5A97 R2.0 Motherboard I have purchased. I absolutely love this board. The first board I bought for my friend and the second one for my wife.

The performance of this board is outstanding. For a 970 chipset, the speed of the board keeps up with my M5A99FX PRO R2.0. I have a FX-6300 in my board and a Phenom II X3 710 in my wife's M5A97 R2.0 system. Runs Windows 8.1 flawlessly. Hope it will keep running, so I will update my review in a few weeks.

Cons: AM3+ socket almost defective on this board. This was not the case for my friends board, but is for my wife's board. See other thoughts.

Other Thoughts: Almost thought it was a DOA Motherboard. I put everything together and only the fans spun. No post, no nothing. I decided to troubleshoot and after doing everything again, I found a small problem with the AM3+ socket on this board. There were one or two pin holes that are slightly misaligned, and the processor would not seat correctly. There were no bent pins on the CPU. I decided to slightly push on the CPU, and the left side seated, but not the right side. I know it only goes in one way so I made sure it was aligned with the arrow. I then decided while the lever was up, with the left side seated, I moved the lever in just a little, then boom, the CPU fell into place. put it together, and the board fired up. I'm wondering if other people bought this board had this same problem and thought it was DOA. I urge people who buy this board to make sure the CPU is fully seating before saying its DOA.

I removed the CPU go make sure none of the pins got bent from this. No bent pins. The CPU reinserted easier and the system has been running great.

Great board
