5 out of 5 eggsHigh Quality Motherboard

Pros: > Well built and sturdy.
> Lots of USB 2.0 & 3.0 ports.
> Numerous onboard LEDs
> UEFI Bios is amazing. So easy to use.
> Board overclocks well. My FX-8320 is @ 4.2 GHz with 1.35 volts.
> Bios flashing is very easy. Took me less than 10 minutes to update to the latest bios.

Cons: None really. If I had to complain I would say the price is high, but so is the quality. You get what you pay for.

Other Thoughts: I originally could not get the USB 3.0 header ports to work on my PC case but after replugging in the connector everything worked fine.

This board is the center of my new gaming PC.

Setup:
ASUS M5A99X EVO R2.0
AMD FX-8320 @ 4.2 GHz
Zalman CNPS9500A-LED CPU Cooler
G.Skill Ares Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 (8-8-8-24)
Samsung 840 EVO 120GB SSD
Western Digital BLACK SERIES 1TB 7500 RPM
PNY GeForce GTX 760 OC 2GB
NZXT Phantom 410 (Black/Orange) ATX Mid Tower

1 out of 5 eggsNEAR USELESS WARRANTY

Pros: When the motherboard worked, it did everything I expected of it.
3 year warranty if you can do without your computer for weeks to months.
The adapter plugs that allow you connect things like your pwr, rst, HD LED connections to the plug then attach the plug to the MB. Very nice when you have limited room to work in.

Cons: After 9 months, the MB connections for the speakers started error messages that my speakers were disconnected, connected, disconnected & so on with ever increasing frequency until both my speakers & headset had NO signal going to either of them. I was able to use the HDMI connection to my ASUS monitor w built in speakers for sound, but the speakers started rattling after playing action games.
After reading some of the other reviews concerning ASUS warranty issues, I repeatedly started out asking for a cross shipment RMA (I pay the cost of a new MB from ASUS & get refunded when the defective board is received by ASUS). ASUS kept saying that would be handled at the next step of the process.
Step 1, I started the RMA process using the “online chat” support. This is a really SLOW way to communicate. I wonder how many other people or tasks are being handled by that employee during my “chat” session. I got the impression that I did not have their full attention.
I’m told the cross shipment option will come later.
Step 2, I got to talk to a person. Again I asked for a cross shipment RMA. I was told that option would be provided when I received my official RMA#.
Step 3, RMA#, but nothing about cross shipment or even a reason why they will not do it. Further, although I’m returning a MB, I get a checklist PDF form for: “All-in-One PC, Desktop PC, Notebook, Netbooks, Networking, Tablets, and Wireless”. Another example of how little they are paying attention to me. There is NO phone# to talk to a person, just a “Live chat” link, the way I got started this impersonal & ROTTEN RMA process.

Other Thoughts: If ASUS wants to make RMA# USPC470942 right, they can contact me for cross shipment credit card info & ASUS should pay for my return shipping (I’ll even include my new sound card with the MB), since I had to buy a sound card & pull a PCI SATA expansion card, reducing the number of drives I can have internally so I can have sound to my speakers & headphones.
Whether you use your computer for finances, email, gaming and/or whatever, ASUS has almost zero concern that your computer will be out-of-service for weeks (shipping times only) plus the time to examine the MB. Since it took about a week to get the botched RMA, the examination could add additional weeks or months.

5 out of 5 eggsAsus M5A99x Evo

Pros: Great board. Got it installed last night with no issues, I was able to mount the hyper 212 Evo with no problems.

Cons: the HDD LED pins on the board were bent, However I am not sure if it was like that when shipped or if i may have accidentally bent them. No problems with the HDD lights though.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid

Pros: Works great, no complaints. Very reliable as it's for my parents I need a sure thing, since I don't see them as much as I wish I could.

Cons: .

Other Thoughts: Bought this for my parents as a replacement for the M5A97. They have had it for over a year now and no problems. I may get another one for my brother's build.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: It's a great board, at this price point, you can't complain. I like all the features, it has adequate chassis fan headers, you can do crossfire if you want, there's room to grow with this board. This board has no problem overclocking my FX-8320 to 4.5ghz and running at stable temps. The board is made with quality materials, especially the caps, and is very aesthetically pleasing. It does everything you could ask of it., I am pleased.

Cons: It doesn't cook or clean...

This is nitpicking but the BIOS is kind of funky in it's function and very "simple" oriented, I understand not everyone who buys this board wants to push it to it's limits and adjust every setting but those who do, be wary.

My last thought and the only real con I found from this board was the placement of Chassis fan headers 1 & 2. Asus placed them just above the first PCI slot and towards the back of the case, making routing of fan cables messy. I don't use them in my rig because of this, I wish Asus moved them to a location where we can better conceal wires!

Other Thoughts: It's Asus, when ever I've helped friends with their builds, as well as mine, I always favor Asus because thus far I've never seen a DoA board nor have had issues with them. Asus has been building boards for long time, so you can't go wrong with this brand.

4 out of 5 eggsmotha bored

Pros: it had a rebate, it was fairly cheap, but not sub100 when purchased. I hate trying to buy older tech on sale, just keeps falling like a knife

Cons: The rebatres are tough to get, we will see if they screw me or not.

Other Thoughts: Board felt a little flimsy when I put an aftermarket coolermaster on it. Seemed to want to flex and I was a little nervous something would go wrong. Had a small issue with the Board taking my graphics card, but after several removals and reinsertions it took. A little weird with the case speaker, worked then died after 2 days.

4 out of 5 eggsNot What I Needed

Pros: Lots of USB ports, AMD processor support, easily fits my Nofan processor cooler and graphics card.

Cons: Unnecessary coprocessors: the TPU is an overclocking unit, but I do not overclock; the EPU controls fan speeds and spins down the hard drive, but I am building a silent, solid-state system.

Other Thoughts: I watched a video on the ASUS website that said to prepare the motherboard on its cardboard box. Well, it must have picked up some static electricity, because the board ended up failing. I replaced it with a less expensive Gigabyte board, prepared it on a static-free surface, and then my system booted.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Motherboard for the money

Pros: plenty of all the connections you need
TPU and EPU chips for improved speed and power usage
Bios flashback
Improved Bios interface
Solid Capacitors
all sorts of extra features

Cons: can't think of any

Other Thoughts: This is definitely one of the best boards for the price, costs a bit more than the 97 boards out there, but is packed with all sorts of features. It does what it's supposed to. I found the TPU and EPU chips to be a very interesting feature that I didn't even know about when I purchased it (must have over looked it). Claims to improve speed and power usage. My PC is super fast, but it is difficult to determine what if any effect the motherboard actually has on the overall speed. Could probably do some tests to determine something like that, but that's more work than I care to do and it works more than fast enough for me as it is.

5 out of 5 eggsOver a year in with zero complaints

Pros: -Has worked flawlessly for over a year.
-Simple to set up and get running.
-Will fit the monster Cooler Master V8 GTS CPU cooler.
-Has provided all of the expandability that I've needed
-Great bang for the buck

Cons: -None as of yet

Other Thoughts: I'm admittedly a geek that isn't afraid to get in and build my own PC. This board is at the core of one hell of a system that plays the newest games at incredible speed and performance. It's got more bells and whistles than I'll likely ever use. I highly recommend it, contingent upon your reviewing the specs and ensuring that it meets your needs.
