4 out of 5 eggsIf NIC stops working check bios

Pros: looks great, tons of options and control. Getting way above average passmark scores with stock settings

Cons: board has buggy bios, NIC stopped working

Other Thoughts: If you load extreme overclock defaults in bios, it will disable the nic. You have to then go and enable it under devices in the bios, not windows. Was wondering for a hour or so why windows would stop seeing the nic when I was overclocking and for a moment thought overclocking was causing it cause I'd load defaults and the NIC would work again. You don't have to enable extreme OC defaults to overclock, I was just messing with it. But if you do, go enable the NIC afterwards

1 out of 5 eggsDOA

Pros: Good layout, color scheme, and enough fan headers :D

Cons: gave the dreaded FF error when I tried the boot it out of the box and then out of nowhere the mobo starts to smoke near the VRMs and shorted out my fx8320 and ram, luckily my gpu was fine. I have trusted components from asus and they are reliable but this mobo took out my cpu and ram which is not reassuring me how asus handles their QC tests now.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat so far

Pros: I've had this board for the better part of a year now so I think I can finally review it. The little LCD with boot/error codes is a lifesaver. I have gotten a myriad of error codes throughout my ownership of this board, some of which were my fault and some of which were hardware failures. It helped me identify a PSU failure (which required replacement) when it threw a CPU power error. It has helped me identify memory overclock errors (due to increasing the base clock), and when you make an invalid setting it's as easy as holding down a button during boot to boot into factory settings.

AI suite comes with auto-overclock settings which are fairly conservative. Usually it will increase your base clock and not your multiplier, so make sure you down-clock your memory before starting this so it doesn't become a bottleneck during this process. You can also manually adjust settings in AI suite, and then stress test it using something like AMD Overdrive, and once you're satisfied that the system is stable and clocking where you want, put those as your default settings directly into the bios.

For those who don't want to mess with any overclocking at all, the BIOS also defaults to ASUS EZMode where you can set it up in 3 default settings depending on your preference.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: Currently I have an 8150 in it, but got this because I eventually wanted to upgrade to a 9590. To do so, I've heard you have to have both the 4 pin and 8 pin processor power supply connected. Something to look into if you have one and it's not clocking properly. The DIGI+ Power controls allow me to keep my 8150 stable at 4.3 GHz.

3 out of 5 eggsI've owned this for awhile now...

Pros: Looks good. Works great when it runs properly. LED function lights do what they're supposed to do. Sound works great when it works.

Cons: 1st board was RMAd because the sound completely died within the warranty period. 2nd board has the same problems now. Sound has died, the USB ports are all completely whacked. Every time I start up my comp I have to unplug and plug in my mouse in the usb hub to get it to turn on (Even though all usbs are programmed to be on all the time). I had bought this board because it was solid, had room for 3way Xfire and because I didn't want to use a discreet sound card any longer. Needless to say....

Other Thoughts: 2nd board that the sound has completely died. USBs don't stay on, none of them. I've had to use a discreet sound card now which is what I was trying to shy away from. Asus Suite just doesn't do it any longer. Upgrading your board's features requres an intense amount of patience. I wish I hadn't sold my Formula IV board. It just worked so much better than this piece of overpriced plastic. The drivers for this board are ancient and I don't think Asus has any plan on updating them. Ever. This is now the Crosshair V while the comparable Intel boards are on their 7th ROG version and this one has been around for years now.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: This is a very nice board. It takes my FX-8150 CPU into new dimensions set only to auto where it is running variable speeds between 3.2 ghz and up to 4.2 ghz on call.

Cons: Still working out why this board will not run with a FX-9590 unless it is only running at 1.32-1.37 ghz variable range.

If you need tech support, be aware hold times are extreme to get in touch with tier one tech support which is someone troubleshooting on a computer screen that has no idea what they are troubleshooting personally including no personal knowledge of even how a computer works.

Max memory speed is 1600 mhz DDR3. If you utilize a faster memory the details can be loaded from the memory and the speed set manually in BIOS. The BIOS is automatically set to unganged memory so be sure to change this if you use pairs.

Other Thoughts: This board has extra power requirements for power supply connection. Be prepared to match your power supply and by any adapter cables you need at the same time. CPU power has both an 8 pin and a 4 pin mainboard connection. While most power supplies of quality will come with the 8 pin connector, you will need a 4 pin molex to 4 pin CPU power adapter as well to complete the connection or if your power supply does not have 8 pin rather only having a 4 pin, you will need a 2 x 4 pin molex to 8 pin mainboard connector adapter. The board will run with lesser connections, but the fewer the connections the fewer options you unlock on the board.

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic motherboard

Pros: This is my 3 Asus Rog Gamers motherboard, I love these boards. The 1st was the Crosshair IV formula great board then I replaced that with the Crosshair IV Extreme because I wanted the built-in Bluetooth and I loved that feature and board and was using with Win 8.1 it love that OS
Now I bought the Crosshair V formula which is just as good as the others, the reason I replaced it was to get a newer board with 8.1 support that was the right choice, swapping boards was a breeze I had the board up and running in no time.
It's installed in Cooler Master HAF 942 full tower case fits great, I also installed an AMD 8 core processor with the Cooler Master CPU sealed water cooler so far so good.
I am running a ASUS ATI Radon 6870 and also a Corsair 1200 watt ATX power supply and Corsair DDR 3 16 GB of Memory. It runs great as usual ASUS did it again.
thank you ASUS love these ROG Gamers Boards I won't by anything else.

Cons: The only thing wrong and it's not really a con is read the book.
you'll see a 4 pin socket on the side of the board near the CPU, it's an optional connection, unless your running multiple GPU cards then it becomes a must connection you need a power supply the has that 4 pin connection to run multiple cards or the board won't stay running it will keep shutting down.

4 out of 5 eggsBeen a road of bumpy and smooth roads

Pros: It's red......I mean RED.
black PCB....main board for all you new folks looking at computer parts for the first time
overclocking potential is there you just have to have the right BIOS.....1903 is the best one for overclocking and goodness sakes don't update.
six fan headers
semi-good software....asus suite III is better but oh well

over all a good board

Cons: overclocking is tricky but help can be found on youtuberdotcom.
only accepts memory up to 2400mhz....however the CPU only take 1600......warning after 1600 it's Overclocking

Other Thoughts: nothing bad to say about the board. good learning board for me.....but sadly time to move on. waiting for broadwell to arrive with DDR4.....sometime late this year.

1 out of 5 eggsAvoid

Pros: This could have been a very good motherboard. On paper, it IS a very good motherboard.

Cons: Sadly, it didn't work out of the box. Got the dreaded FF error that so many people all over the net also got. Tested all components with my old Gigabyte board with zero problems.

Other Thoughts: ASUS need to step up their QC on this board. The specs and features make it very tempting, but upon using Google to search out the problem I got, it seems I was not alone. Not at all alone.

5 out of 5 eggsBest AMD Motherboard Available

Pros: This motherboard just screams quality. If you want the best motherboard for AMD processors you're looking at it right here

- 3 way Crossfire/SLI. Not that I plan to use it, but if you want 3 GPUs in here, this mobo can handle it with ease

- Great Bios layout. Has an advanced and easy mode. Has a multitude of features like quick boot, channeling bandwidth, direct Bios boot, amongst a whole buch of other features

- Has easy options for overclocking as well as the specific technical options as well.

- Red LEDs on the board look cool. Has it's own start button on the mobo.

- Comes with a package of cool software like Daemon Tools Pro, Kaspersky, Winzip, etc.

- Options. This motherboard comes with so many options. You can even power the CPU with one of those old 4pin connectors. Can have the highest speed of memory. Can use old audio connector instead of HD. You have numerous possibilities with this mobo.

Again this motherboard just screams quality. From the build of it, to something as simple as the backplate, Asus did a fantastic job on this motherboard

Cons: Honestly can't think of any. If you don't like LEDs then you may not like the one on this board but it's not that bright.

Other Thoughts: This board is worth the price tag. A lot of motherboards can be hit or miss so I don't mind paying a little extra for quality, and that's what you get here.

Running a 8350, non overclocked right now, but will bump it up soon. Also have a 290x
