5 out of 5 eggsSo far, one of the best mobo's I've ever owned

Pros: Just switching out my Gigabyte 890FX-UD5 with this has sped up my rig with no other modifications yet. This was step 1 in a planned upgrade that I unfortunately have to do a piece at a time. I only have a Phenom II 965 in it but I'm already seeing performance increases. I like the idea of the CPU "Level Up", but it's not quite giving me what I have gotten out of it in the past. I clocked it up to 3.9Ghz with just Hyper 212 EVO on it, and the software is only giving me 3.65Ghz with a Corsair H100i. Just need to do some tinkering I think. The board requires a minimum of 300w plus has an additional molex plug on the board itself, so one you pair that with a mid- to high-end GPU, you're PSU is going to be in some serious $*!*. Had a Corsair 650w, just got an XFX 1050w 80+ Gold that is currently on sale with a nice big rebate to take advantage of here on Newegg. Make sure you have at least 800w to take care of this gem.

Cons: None so far. Thankfully, I wasn't one of the poor folks who got a DOA board.

Other Thoughts: As I said, this is step 1 of a planned upgrade. Here's what I have....

Pre-build

Thermaltake Armor A-90 case
Gigabyte 890FX-UD5 mobo
Phenom II X4 965 Black w/Hyper 212 EVO fan
12GM RAM
XFX Radeon HD 7770 Core Edition
Sound Blaster Titanium X-Fi (I needed the digital line in for a while for my PS3)
128 GB Samsung EVO 840 SSD + 1TB WD Black

Planned build
ASUS ROG Crosshair V Formula Z (already bought)
AMD FX-8350
16GB AMD Performance DDR3-1866 RAM
Corsair H100i cooler (already bought...may go the Swiftech Ultima route if I get $400 to shell out for it...built the loop for a friend and love the results)
ASUS ROG Striker Geforce GTX 760
I'll probably get a larger SSD also eventually.

2 out of 5 eggsWeak CPU Socket

Pros: Great looking board. Overclocks very well. Nice features. Great performance when it is working right. See other thoughts for recommendations.

Cons: Since I bought the board, I've had to RMA it twice and now on my third one, my network port has quit working. The problems I have with this board seem to relate to my install of a new cpu cooler. I've used a Zalman CNPS9900, Cooler master Seidon 120m, a Noctua NH-U14S, and just recently upgraded again to a Cooler Master Glacer 240l. First board, two of my ram channels quit working. My second one, overclocking would lose stability after restarts and my audio started glitching. Now after upgrading to my Glacer, my network port doesn't work. At first, my whole system wouldn't boot but I loosened up the mount and at least got started up. I can't really loosen up any more and keep the CPU at a safe temperature. Stress tests now fail instantly too. My guess is there must be some design flaw with the socket, and if the pressure goes slightly too high, a connection breaks far too easily. For being a high end motherboard, I would think it should handle multiple upgrades without something going wrong.

Also, I have a Phantom 820 case so I leave the motherboard mounted at all times. I don't know how to be any more careful than that when upgrading so as not to rough up the motherboard.

Another issue that seems to be a Bios glitch. If I let my computer go into sleep mode, I lose my overclock settings and it defaults back to stock clocks. After a restart, everything is back but Asus told me this was an AMD issue to which AMD said they had no intention of looking into the drivers. Came to find out from my forum that someone else was using a Gigabyte UD5 and didn't have sleep issues with their overclock settings. Asus pulled a fast one there.

Finally, their customer service is horrible! I don't even want another Asus product because of how much trouble it is to get through an RMA process. I LITERALLY had to make about a 20 min video of my problems, upload to youtube and finally got approved for my second RMA. I swear these guys have never heard of remote assistance! I sent screenshots, logs, reports, and they kept wanting more. Just to get to that point, I Had to file a BBB complaint just to get someone to follow up. I had called 5 times and kept being told someone was out but they would call me at a certain time. Never kept the appointments. I put a lot of work into just making sure it was a defect because I DID NOT want to rma the second time unless everyone was sure it was the board. Absolutely horrible service.

Other Thoughts: The reason I did give a two star rating is the performance. I would say that if you plan on building a system and not messing with it hardly ever, you will probably have great luck with this board. If you're like me and really into CPU cooling, this board seems too fragile to handle lots of installs from upgrades.

On air it did get my 8350 to 4.5 ghz and once I installed my Glacer, my temps dropped over 10c. I would have had lots of head room to play with so I can't complain about the overclocking ability of the board (with good cooling). Also had 2 7970s, 4x4 gbs of ram and 2 240 gb SSDs in a raid 0. Performance was great for that system (til it stopped working =D).

2 out of 5 eggsNot ROG worthy

Pros: Looks nice, LED Q-CODE display... you WILL need this ( read Cons), every fan headder is PWM, Easy BIOS Updating, 3 way xfire/sli ready, Start/Reset/Go/Boot into BIOS/Clear BIOS buttton a assett, 8 SATA 6G ports, 1 year free Kaspersky AV

Cons: Comes with free GREASY FINGERPRINTS on CMOS battery and PCB (indicating VERY POOR QUALITY CONTROL), No security tape or sealing process for box-no guarantee someone was not already in the packaging before you get it. As others have reviewed BIOS is buggy at the best of times, somewhat got better after BIOS update, 10%+ BIOS fails to load mouse or keyboard or both upon boot from full shut down; reboot or manual replugging necessary, if you leave a controller plugged in during boot ROG firmware update loop will occur, 80% wake from sleep mode success rate with WIN 8.1 (fast boot makes these symptoms worse), BIOS freezes or goes blank screen occasionally, USB 3.0 Charging stops during sleep mode... even my Budget Giggabyte UD3 supports sleep mode chargeing. Thermal paste stuck to board upon receiving, included windows BIOS software is buggy and useless. Newegg raised the price so they could call it a sale. Free Kaspersky AV software has to be DL from ASUS website-should have been included on software Disk

Other Thoughts: Really, really dissapointed with this "premium board".

ASUS has dropped the ball regarding Quality control.

This is my 2nd and last ASUS board Guaranteed.

probably great for overclocking but certainly unreliable as a stable bootable pc with win 8.1 (advertised as 8.1 compatable)

visit ASUS forum for more reviews about how buggy their BIOS really is for this board and all the incompatability issues before purchasing this board; you need to know

3 out of 5 eggsHAHA Asus your smart but stupid

Pros: Great Board if you know how to use it, and it had a tdp of 250 watts for the 9590. only board I have trusted with my AMD CPUs but they are sloppy as hell and going down the drain. im already looking at Gigabyte's new boards for AMD. To bad they are losing me as a customer once I find a board that is just as good and im thinking

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128508 looks solid and a good replacement

Cons: this company is stupid as F they cant get customer service correct or organized I RMD a MB for a crackling sound card on my CH IV and they called me up telling me I didn't return the MB. Thank the lord I sent it By courier with a Delivery signature when received at their end. told them to F them selves and don't call me again and if they charged my credit card I would sue them. funny thing is I still trust the CH ROG MB and put them in my gaming rigs. If I ever treated my customers like Asus CS lol I would be out of business in a flash

Other Thoughts: the board is good and solid just expect to be belittled and F around by ASUS CS if you ever have to deal with them. What a bunch of idiocy Crack Heads if I was the CEO I would fire them all and get real caring knowledgeable CS people not Crack Heads they have now

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: 2nd ASUS board I have used in a build. First board was flawless. This board handles the FX 9590. Started out with the FX 8350 and had no issues. I overclocked the 8350 up to 4.5 and everything was smooth.

Cons: When I upgraded to the FX 9590 I ran into all kinds of problems. It recognized the Processor as a new install every time I booted up. BIOS would not save any settings. Some reason it always shows F.F. Replaced all of the components of my build...GPU,CPU, CPU cooler, RAM, and PSU....even hard drives and cables. Still get the F.F. RMA'd and qualified for the pre shipment, ASUS gave me a HUGE hassle about getting my board shipped out. The second board still posts the F.F. but unable to determine what is not working correctly. This this is the last time I go ASUS. Time to try another brand on next build.

Other Thoughts: I'm 50/50 on this board. I put a lot of money into my build. Too much $$$$ to deal with issues like this. For $250 I am sure there is another option that is more stable and less of a hassle. My last ASUS board was $49.99 and it is still powers my Phenom II x4 overclocked like a champ.

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic before PCI 3.0

Pros: Very good motherboard, very spacious with a lot of room for things not to get close together. Never overheats. Overall its a fantastic motherboard. I love this board.

Cons: Not PCI 3.0, so I have to upgrade. The board still works though so I might go ahead and make a second build with it that I'll use to host a mine craft server because it would be a waste to get rid of this board.

5 out of 5 eggsDang! She bad!

Pros: Okay so I probably couldn't of picked a better motherboard to work with for my first build putting together myself.

This thing has it all! Looks! Performance! AND all the bells and whistles!

This thing was made for dummies! Seriously! Just I don't think Asus could of thought of anything else to make this idiot proof.

You should spend the extra money for a quality product and this thing is living proof!

Cons: If there was a con for this card it would be that it arrived DOA but fortunately mine did not... Can't think of anything else that could be a drawback to this product

4 out of 5 eggsGood but Bad too...

Pros: Color Scheme, Reliability, Great for SLI, Lots of room for upgrades. See Cons.

Cons: Well, to start, my board was cheaper because it was open box, and well, it took like 2 weeks to get here! I got this bored to replace my MSI 990fx-gd80 v2 because I had to RMA it 4 times. Had bad luck with them but anyways, this was my first Asus MB but I have had there GPUs before and they were great. Well, I get the bored installed and power on, my setup was the 8350 for CPU, 16gb of 1866MHz Corsair memory, 2x EVGA GTX 650ti Boosts Superclocked in dual SLI. I have this in the Rosewill Thor V2 case and airflow is great, but right on the first boot, I was getting a memory failure, so I booted into BIOS, and set up all of the settings and rebooted and all was fine, but for some reason, my Windows 8 did not work with it at all, so I went to Windows 7 Ultimate without a problem. It worked great for a while. with the MSI board I could get my mem to about 2200mhz and CPU to 4.7ghz without a problem and under full load, it never got hot, and my cooler is my hand built by me, and its a great cooler. worked well with the MSI board and my Thor case, so now I have same CPU and case and cooler just a different motherboard. I decided to try and overclock with this board and I go into the bios, found I needed to update, but I noticed that all my overclocking settings were locked I guess you could say, and they were grayed out compared to the options I could change, and so I tried everything then performed a bios update, and tried again but still grayed out, and it won't let me overclock, it crashes upon CPU level up mode, won't let my mem go passed 1866 when I had it at almost 2200, my voltages are spiking and lowering, and I've changed the PSU twice hoping it would fix the voltage issues but no luck, and now I did a clean install of windows 7 again, but its really slow, and my temps are starting to spike really high. my gpus have the fans on max all of the time and they still overheat at idle, my CPU goes up to 65 Celsius, my mb temp spikes up, the system starts acting weird and sometimes shuts itself off. I'm not having any USB issues at all or any other issues, but some say my CPU is the issue, so me and a friend switched CPUs both 8350s and we got them at the same time, so we switched and still no change. we even switched basically every part in our systems, but still no luck. I want to overclock it but my bios must be locked and all of these little issues are killing me! Asus! Step it up. I was going to buy a second one for my second build for my 9590 but I might go with the Gigabyte ud7 instead. I am so frustrated and need some help with this!
