2 out of 5 eggsVCORE too hot

Pros: It works...decent amout of usb connections, and looks kinda okay, (could use some leds tho)

Cons: VCore overheats with a vishera 8core on 4.3 to over 85 deg.
If you buy it, make sure u get a extra fan for VCORE 1 and 2.

Other Thoughts: Google up "vcore temp"...and the sabertooth is the first entry that shows up.
You either have to get a sepperate fan, or u just shorten the lifespan on your MB.
Next MB will be gigabyte again...they never let me down.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Thank you for sharing your informative review on the ASUS Sabertooth 990FX R2.0. I'm sorry to hear about your unfortunate experience and please accept our apologies for any inconvenience. Due to the high TDP of the AMD Vishera 8-Core, please be note there are limitations while using this CPU. I would recommend to choose a powerful thermal solution for the substitution of your current fan. If you have any technical related questions, feel free to contact me at using N160558164 as reference to your case.

Thank you for choosing ASUS!

2 out of 5 eggsMoBd experiencing memory faults and black screen restarts.

Pros: Usually very reliable

Cons: Audio failed and experienced total shutdowns then failure to boot with an indication of memory failure

Other Thoughts: Having never experienced this kind of failure before on an ASUS based system this mobd is an odd one out. Installed board and immediately had an audio failure. Used an external audio system to replace it. Then I had some random total shutdowns where it would be difficult to get it to restart with memory beeps. The board would eventually restart but would shutdown again. Finally got tired of it and replaced it with a M5A97R2. I have built 3 systems so far with the Sabertooth both R1 and R2 and only one had problems.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Craig,

Thank you providing us with your informative review on your ASUS product. I'm sorry to hear about your unfortunate experience in regards to your audio. Make sure to download the latest Realtek Audio Driver Version Also, make sure to double check that your memory is approved on our Qualified Vendors List. If the issues persist download UEFI version 2501 and extract the file to a fat formatted usb stick. Then navigate in bios to the tools menu and use the EZflash utility to do the flash. Let your system update the firmware as needed. Do not power down even if your system sits with a blank screen for 10 minutes or so. When updating your UEFI please make sure to wait for the firmware to update after the board restarts following the flash. You can locate your system drivers and BIOS at our Online Help Desk: If you have any further questions, you can let me know at using N160554119 as reference to this case.

Thank you for choosing ASUS!

5 out of 5 eggsAn easy and intuitive motherboard

Pros: This was one of the easiest installs I have done in a long time. Everything went together easily and the system booted up on first attempt as it should have. The UEFI Bios is intuitive and relatively easy to navigate to overclock using an AMD FX-8320 and overclocked to 4.0 GHZ and 16 gig (2x8gb) of G-Skill 1866 DDR3 RAM running Windows 10-64 Bit

Cons: I had some challenges getting it to recognize my wireless keyboard upon boot and found that it was particular in which USB slots I could use at boot up.

Other Thoughts: While this motherboard costs more than the others, it was a high quality build. I was surprised to find that there has not been a BIOS update since April 2014

2 out of 5 eggsGood for a year

Pros: Great while it lasts

Cons: This motherboard lasted 1 year. The built-in audio went out. Called Asus for the 5 yr warranty and they said sorry it's no longer in stock. I have to tear my computer apart, pay for shipping, and wait for them to service it and send it back in hopes that it doesn't happen again. Way too expensive for lasting a year with poor warranty support.

Other Thoughts: Go with a different manufacturer.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Thank you for taking the time to inform on your ASUS product. I'm sorry to hear about the audio issues you are experiencing and please accept our sincerest apologies for any inconvenience this experience has caused. Try using the Playing Audio troubleshooter to fix the problem. It checks for common problems with your volume settings, your sound card or driver, and your speakers or headphones. Open the Playing Audio troubleshooter by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, and then clicking Control Panel. In the search box, type troubleshooter, and then click Troubleshooting. Under Hardware and Sound, click Troubleshoot audio playback.‌ Administrator permission required If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation. Do the issues occur only when using your onboard audio? Make sure to update your Realtek Audio Driver V6.0.1.7525 for Windows 7/8/8.1/10 32bit & 64bit located on our ASUS Online Help Desk: Also, make sure to double check you are selecting the correct playback option as your sound profile. You can do that by right-clicking your Realtek High Definition Audio and selecting "Set as Default Device" to enable. If the issues persist, feel free to contact me at using N160515365 as reference to your case.

5 out of 5 eggsAWESOME

Pros: tons of compatibility room crossfire compatible 4 slots of ram

Cons: north and south bridge run a tad bit hot but it could just be my case and no 3.0 drivers for pci slots you have to get the new version of this motherboard to get that

Other Thoughts: amazing motherboard i would buy again given the chance

5 out of 5 eggsVery, Very, Good

Pros: Connectors for everything
Ease of setup
Awesome graphical BIOS that works with a USB mouse

Cons: No Firewire port - I don't need but be aware if you do

Other Thoughts: Weird RAM sockets (another reviewer claims his were broken but the catch is fixed at one side, it says so in the manual

Went together like a dream, everything recognized first time, OS installed quickly with no problems

My system:
Cooler Master HAF 932 Case
Corsair TX750M Modular PSU
ASUS Sabertooth 990FX R2.0 Motherboard
AMD FX4350 Vishera 4.2 GHz CPU
Sapphire 100364L Radeon R9 270X 2GB GPU
Corsair Vengeance 2x4 GB CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9R PC1600 DDR3
Samsung 840 EVO 120 GB SSD
Samsung SH-224DB SATA DVD Burner
Windows 7 Pro 64 Bit OS

After 3 years this board is still going strong, still for sale on NewEgg, and it still delivers awesome performance. The Corsair TX750M PSU died after about 4 months and I replaced it with a SeaSonic M12II 750 SS-750AM2 750W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Modular Active PFC Full-modular Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready which solved all my issues and has purred along ever since.
In Nov 2015, I upgraded to an SSD, I tried a Crucial MX200 first and had endless issues, I then switched that to a Samsung 850 EVO and it's been flying ever since. I had some lock up problems upgrading from Win 7 to 10 (same on my Dell laptop) and eventually used the method of creating fresh Win 10 install DVD from Win 10 that solved all issues for this and the same approach fixed my laptop. I also upgraded the RAM to 16 Gigs using another set of the same Corsair Vengeance RAM listed above

5 out of 5 eggsSturdy little beast of a MOBO, but only half of USB 3.0 slots work despite reading as ready in the BIOS

Pros: -Sexy military-esque design with functional heat sinks.
-mine wasn't DOA/faulty, so that means yours won't be either (jk)
-Sturdy AF
-Dat BIOS doe
-During heavy overclocking, it has a very flat temperature curve despite being attached to a molten rock of a CPU (AMD FX-9590 Vishera) and a notoriously hot GPU
-Absolutely every socket you need for a modern build with the exception of...

Cons: -Memory slots not DDR4 (pretty sure that didn't exist back when this MOBO was manufactured but I could be wrong)
-Some USB port troubles but meh, that's easily circumvented
-Some case component sockets are poorly labeled (proper placement can be researched)
-SATA cable management can be funny sometimes for the shorter ones, but longer SATAs could be perfect for cable management
-The power connectors can be annoying

Other Thoughts: I've had mine for 3 1/2 years and it's been through a complete rebuild spread over that amount of time. The fact it's still holding strong after putting some pretty questionable parts on it is pretty impressive. It is literally the last original item from the previous build. For all you people screaming DOA or faulty after a month, I'm not going to say you're wrong, I'm just going to stay maybe it's actually operator error. MOBOs are picky (especially AMD) and most PC builders out there are...under-informed and over-confident to put it nicely. 5 RMAs in a row?...probably mixing your MOBOs up with a Frisbee...just saying. I've never RMA'd anything after 8 years of INFORMED rig building. Or, you could just be unlucky, so please don't think I'm attacking anyone :D
